Some Camera based tips/thoughts for you Jimmy: • You can change the FOV of any camera using the numpad '9' & '3' keys (cardinal numpad keys rotate camera and centre it etc) • You _may_ like the bonnet camera view that most cars have. It has the exterior sounds, and imo the camera motion feels nicer than the interior camera does on many cars. • If the interior camera wobble is an issue for you, I _think_ there is a slider somewhere in the options to adjust how much wobble there is. All of the above said, the camera's in BeamNG are what they are. So the above things still might not help you out.
The reason there isn't any steering feel, (around 14:30 in the video) is in old cars and trucks (at least in the US) the steering column shaft is connected to the steering box input shaft with what is called a Rag Joint or a flexure bearing. It's a disc of fabric reinforced rubber that is sandwiched between either two metal plates or just bolted together. Super sketchy, but sort of necessary for really bumpy roads of the time. If you just had a solid universal joint in the steering shaft going over roads, such as those, in old cars it would basically be uncontrollable. The steering wheel would be ripped from your hands because of having no power steering and such. The Rag Joint soaks up unwanted steering input caused by the road surface, at the cost of steering feel and performance. I hope someone learned something new today. (And before someone decides to troll, I do have a degree in Automotive Technology and was an automotive technician for a number of years.)
Thanks for the info. I think the devs should include such information in the game, at the loading screens for example. However there is really a lack of fidelity in the FFB for all cars in beam. I also notice there is allot of noise in the steering position, yes you could filter it out, but the more you filter it the worst it gets in terms of speed and fidelity.

Yeah, I just checked the default setup of the Miramar in the gravel rally scenario, and it uses the wide-track race suspension + race shocks rather than rally shocks. No wonder why Jimmy was having a hell of a time keeping it pointed in the right direction.
Yea stock setups on all cars except the ETK's are basically trash and just generic values. Cars can handle MUCH better than they do stock. Also, FFB has to be tuned as well, on stock settings it sucks, when set up properly it's more detailed than a lot of sims out there.
All of the above. Took me ages (2013-2019 tbh) to get the FFB set up just right, ofcourse they did some major changes a while back that changed things a fair bit. Ive setup my own rally cars and theyre a ton of fun, the stock setups are really lacking alot.
i think the thing about the ffb in beam is that it tries to be 100% realistic, whereas actual sims give you extra information, more than you'd get in real life, to make up for not being able to feel g forces. you'd probably get good usable feedback in beam with low profile sticky tires on tarmac, but the tall soft bois, especially on gravel, arent gonna give you anything but a little bit of self centering force.
Literally this. All the steering parts are simulated in BeamNG, so if you have tall & thick tires, combined with a crappy steering rack, then the FFB forces won't be strong, where as other racing games tell you everything right from the wheels
I don't think this is the case. In other games you could turn off all of these effects individually and the feel of the FFB would still be much better than in beam. I think there is a lack of fidelity in the beamng FFB caused by the high amount of noise in the steering position.
You can bind keys to increase your field of view and you should download a camera mod from the repository, that makes your camera turn in relation to your steering input.
It's supposed to be an Italian VW Beetle. 4 Cyl Aircooled Boxer, with 1100 to 1600cc, RR Layout with Torsion Bars in the Rear, it's a Beetle in an upscaled FIAT 600/Käfer Mix Body.
Nadir Seyfullayev OPTIONS > CAMERA Camera: Driver Field of view [-*--] * deg Inertia strength [-*--] *% There are other settings here but these are the ones I mentioned. When in game you can change what views you want and in what order.
if you hold control and click and hold anywhere on the car, you can move it (to get it back on its wheels) you can also control the strength of your "magic arm" (via the mouse wheel) and rip off parts of the car, which is always fun
you can choose any other car by 1. starting the scenario 2. clicking start 3. changing to your desired car (I assume you know how to) 4. resetting the scenario (as if you have crashed your car and want to retry) make sure you change the car at the exact position you want to start from, as the location where you changed the car will be the location you start at after every reset
If you're still up for trying more BeamNG maps, you should consider "American Road" - it has an 82km time trial (98% asphalt, 2% dirt), with pretty much everything from mountain hairpins to long highway stretches! And in many of the faster cars you actually have to be careful to make sure the gas tank lasts throughout the track!
I actually found the ffb in beamng pretty good... So much fun drifting the 856 tt sport around all the free roam and then taking the sunburst sport around gravel stages. Wasn't expecting to like the game so much but its actually one of my favourite driving games
This was awesome fun to watch :D I Gotta try this out :D That Italy map is so big and looks amazing very fun to just roam around and drive on it, either way tho those cliff sides are scary ha ha ha :D
I know I'm a bit late, but I have to say this. BeamNG's FFB is bit different than in other games. In other games, the FFB is taken directly from the tires & amplified some more to higher levels than in real life, while in BeamNG it goes through the tires, to the rim, from the rim to the steering rack & *then* to your steering wheel. The strength also depends on the tires you run, mainly how thick they are; the thicker, the more dampened the forces are thus less FFB makes it to your steering wheel.
Hey Jimmer if you roll the car the game still lets you push it onto its wheels so you don't need to restart. Hold CTRL then click on an attachment point and you can drag the car around. This works in races and scenarios.
I also can't get it why people keep taking it for an arcade (while crashing all the time because of not taking it seriously). Probably the most realistic car sim in my personal opinion.
Get Sideways yeah me too, i mean its a lot of fun blowing cars apart, but it also is a very realistic sim. When you miss a shift the gear will grind hard, and doing that too much can cause you to lose that gear. The breaks overheat, the cars can overheat, they can be over revved and engine damage can occur. The only problem i have with beamng is the cars feel to skittish. They bounce around a lot and skate around. They seem very jittery if that makes sense.
@@BigCool95 I personally don't care for the crash modeling, though it does feel more immersive to get the car totaled when you hit that tree. I drive it for how it handles. But you have a point that cars could be a little less snappy. Still, as long as drifting makes sense, I'm ok with that. One more thing about the modeling: you can also starve the engine of oil if the car is rolled over. It's also possible to blow up the engine (which almost gave me a heart attack when it happened for the first time). Then there is also the brakes heating and fading. So I really think this is probably the most detailed car sim out there. Even the automatic transmission has quite a modeling behind it. Usually you don't have to do a thing, but in BeamNG you still need to switch between the modes.
Also: Go into the Ctrl+W Menu and set the Miramar up properly, with less Sway in the Rear, more in the Front, lift it, soften the Springs and it will be nicer. Running a Tarmac Setup with Gravek Tires is like a Tea and Sausage. Both very nice things, but don't work together at all.
I don’t know why but this video became a lot more entertaining for me when I was imagining the voice of the co-driver to be the force-ghost of Obi-Wan from the New Hope helping out some random rally bloke.. or in this case discount rally Harry Potter
Hello Jimmy, after turning your car to the side or roof you can put it back on wheels by pulling on the car nodes with mouse my holding left CTRL. You don't need to restart the race if the car is still driveable.
I believe the Miramar is inspired by the T40 Toyota Corona. It has a weird front end treatment, but the rest of the car looks very much like an RT40 Corona.
There is (or was, haven't played the game for a while) an option to enable the node-grabber during scenarios so you can recover from rolls. Also I prefer the chase cam as it gives a better view of the CRONCH.
Hi personally I love this game I am not afraid to admit that for me it is the best driving simulator in the world I really enjoy playing with it to the point that I have built real rally championships with a lot of stages so many car teams and standings, I'd recommend play with it a lot more because it's really beautiful.
If you really want to have the option to rewind, there is a setting that enables you to use any car on any scenario and enables the rewind option. I think the option is called something along the lines of 'Competetive Scenario's'
Considering the amount of power the new gen of consoles will have, I'd love to see them try out some soft body physics on a Dirt or WRC10 or something. Like, I'd fucking love this kinda of damage in WRC8.

Beam seems to crunch on heel toe randomly even though you're not actually registering damage or doing anything wrong. I think it wants a 100% pedal position on the clutch or something or else it triggers the sound on a gear shift, but a 95%ish pedal position would be low enough to trigger damage, if you get what I mean.
I'm thinking since direct drive support is new in Beam that it doesn't quite work properly. On normal wheels it's not amazing, but it does the job well enough. Either that or you still don't have it set up right. You could talk to the devs, they're usually pretty willing to help.
I don't know why Jimmy always complains about FFB not being good. If anything I find it TOO detailed and too strong sometimes, making me feel every smallest thing. You have to set it up properly, then it's actually very good, you can feel A LOT, more than in a lot of sims. You can even feel the tire flexing in the corner and you can even feel that "vibration" of tires when the pressures are too low and you take corners too quickly. BeamNG simulates the feeling of tires actually being in contact with the surface better than any other sim IMHO, that specific part of FFB is better than in iRacing when you set it up. You really have to set it up properly, it's very good FFB. I legit enjoy driving it and feels very nice to drive, like 9/10th of the way to being a proper sim, and Jimmy acts like it's freaking NFS from 1998. Set up the FFB properly and it transforms the game. The amount of settings for FFB in BeamNG is MASSIVE, you can literally set up so many things in the game files using notepad or text and fine tune so many things, far more than there are in the stock game menu. Also, you have to set up the FOV settings for interior view, and you can also move the seats in all directions...the default FOV is really low, like 40 degrees or something, so it feels like you're zoomed in when you're looking out of the interior, you have to increase it at least to 65-70 and then set up the seat position, the feeling of speed and realism of the view out of the cockpit is excellent then, again as good as in the best sims out there. The one fault BeamNG has is that out of the box it's NOT set up for driving. Literally every aspect of driving in the default game, be it car setups, controls, FFB, cameras, etc. are not properly fine tuned. That's why it feels awkward to play. When you set up it properly, it can literally go from 2/10 experience to a 10/10 experience. In a few years and with proper modding, BeamNG will become a serious simulator, it has the physics engine power for that.
You can't just kidnap a man, tie him up in the trunk and then call him your co-driver Jim. HE HAS A FAMILY.
mono dead lmao

Hi, Could you recommend a guide to setup the FFB? I played allot with it but I could never get rid of rattling and detail is very lacking.
That car looks more like a fiat 600 then a 500
Than not then
