- Linda Darnell, one of five children of a postal clerk, grew up fast. At 11, she was modeling clothes, giving her age as 16. At 13, she was appearing on the stage with little theater groups. Her mother encouraged her to audition when Hollywood talent scouts came to Dallas. She went to California and when the studio found out how young she really was, she was sent home and told to come back when she was 15. Her fourth film, Star Dust (1940), was based on this real life experience. It was Star Dust (1940) that Darnell was watching the night of April 9, 1965, at the home of her former secretary, located in Glenview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The house caught on fire in the early hours of the next morning and Darnell died that afternoon in Cook County Hospital. The character she played in one of her best known roles, Forever Amber (1947) survived the London fire, the plague and the perils of being the mistress of the English king, Charles II.

Linda Darnell and Joan Bennett BOTH? I must be dead and gone to heaven.
A great sports/love drama starring three great actors. Linda Darnell was gorgeous & one of my favorite stars from the Hollywood studio era.
Agreed Dianne, thanks for sharing! #theretnetwork
Linda Darnell, Rita Hayworth, Maureen O'Harra. I saw them in the nineteen forties!! I still remember those beautiful ladies! I am now 82.
I'm almost a decade younger than you so I guess you saw them when they were in their prime in realtime. I envy you that, I only saw them in tv reruns.
Wonderful
Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
Add Heddy Lamar and Ava Gardner and you may have just listed the most beautiful actresses Hollywood ever had and definitely ever will. Nobody now comes close.
I wish our country was as patriotic as it was during that time.
A most wonderful film of true love, overcoming great difficulty, and fighting one's way through to the end. A masterpiece really! Thank you.
Love Linda Darnell, Joan Bennett and Paul Douglas. Not enough movies on you tube with these fabulous actresses and actor. Thank you so very much for posting. I really enjoyed the movie. Blessings!
Thank you too!
LINDA DARNELL IS SO BEAUTIFUL......................
She was no Marie Dressler in the looks dept, but I will admit that Linda was quite a lovely lady.
@@jubalcalif9100 Marie Dressler then Hope Emerson - thinking of your grandma?
Wow! Just seeing a young Zero Mostel is amazing! Thanks for posting!
Zero Mostel, he was nothing......
Thank you so much, have not seen this since I was 11 years old.
Wow that's awesome, glad to do so!
Thank you very much for uploading the whole movie for us to enjoy. To be honest I NEVER heard of this 1951 drama before now. And I thought I was familiar with all the films the three leads (Paul Douglas, Linda Darnell & Joan Bennett) had made ! Quite heartwarming. The youngster playing the son (Billy Gray) appeared in another 1951 Fox movie....which was a huge box office hit : "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
Good one! Thanks!
Loved this movie! What a cast! It was heartwarming the way he played for his son and marriage. I have always loved Paul Douglas and he was great in this movie. Thank you for sharing!!!
Ugh, the scene beginning around 58 minutes into the movie TORE OUT MY HEART!
I caught the last 10 minutes of this movie about 50 years ago nice to find out what it was all about thanks.
Thanks so much for posting this. I loved it!
Very good script - truthful in my opinion, very emotional like riding a rollercoaster into hell but coming out of the torment a better man. The actors were nothing short of amazing with great chemistry. And in the end everyone got what they needed. Thank you for sharing this piece of very fine art. I've never seen like it. As unique artistically as Hitchcock's Psycho
Very touching heartwarming picture. TY Retrospective.
A pleasure to do so!
Great Movie, Incredible talent all rolled up into one! I never appreciated the old flix untill I turned about 50, you do eventually learn 😆 lol 👍🏻👍🏻❤
Well said!
Thanks so much for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the great child actors Billy Gray, a few years before Father Knows Best moved from radio to TV and he became famous in the role of Buzz Anderson, he was a natural in every movie he was in.
TY for this oldie, but goodie with Paul Douglas. Can U even imagine asking our pampered millionaire football players to play in snow like that...yet at one time all the teams did!
Improved working conditions are a basic human right for all.
Ouch. Really enjoyed this movie. The ouch was the scene between the dad and son and a wife that loved her man. Glad for the happy ending. Tku for post.
Thank you for watching!
Joan Bennett = beautiful. Love her....& this was about 30 years before I was born.
Great movie
Great movie.
Stellar cast with overly long script. I thought it would never end.
Thank you for posting this rare film. Good film and the cast was excellent
Thanks for commenting, glad you enjoyed!
Paul Douglas was excellent, Bennett great and Darnell v good - watch it for the acting
very good... thanx!
A great movie that I hadn't seen or known of before. Thanks!
An awesome film. Love a good ending 👏 👏 👏
So sad and tragic the Linda Darnell died. She was a wonderful actress.
The way she died I meant to write
Indeed she was.
I have enjoyed old black and white films of the 30s, 40s and early 50s since I was 12 years of age. Of course several were broadcasted on late tv. I am 80 years of age and an actress, dancer and singer performing in various venues. I still enjoy those 30s, 40s and very early 50s films.
Paul Douglas and Linda Darnell were great in the 1949 film "Letter to Three Wives".
❤
Joan Bennett and Linda Darnell. Two of the huskiest, sexiest voices in the history of cinema.
Agreed!
Great cast very good story Tnx
Glad you enjoyed it
He did the original Angeles in the Outfield.
Going to find that next..
Wonderful charcters!
Yes ! He was going to play a baseball manager in an episode of The Twilight Zone in the late 50s but passed away from a sudden massive heart attack. Veteran character actor Jack Warden stepped in to replace him. Also, Paul had signed a contract to play philandering executive Jeff Sheldrake in Billy Wilder's feature film "The Apartment" (opposite Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine). Fred MacMurray (who had worked with Billy in 1944's "Double Indemnity") stepped in to do the role. What a wonderful actor & sweet man Paul Douglas was. He left us much too soon.... :-(
@@jubalcalif9100 That would be great casting
@@victorwadsworth821 Agreed.
Paul Douglas was an unusual leading man. Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwick, Joan Bennett among them.
Good movie! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I've never heard of this film but I am unable to watch it. Linda Darnell was a very good friend of mine and if I watch this movie I'll just cry all the way through it . She was a beautiful and lovely lady and though I lost your many years ago I still think about her. So enjoy the movie but I'll pass. PS if you want to see wonderful Linda Darnell film letter to three wives will do it everybody in this very good you're probably already seen it
Awwww! I am so sorry! I read about her tragic death a few months ago. I'm sure she brought a lot of sunshine into your life. ♥️♥️♥️
@@catmother4214 thank you so much for your reply. A few years ago I mention that I knew Linda Darnell and you can't imagine the response I got people calling me all kinds of names calling me a troll it was unbelievable it wasn't like I was dragging bragging it was just I just said something about are you know very rarely say anything so thank you for your kind reply
Wow! So sorry to hear that, thanks for sharing Roderick.
@@RoderickFernandez-ps5ci Wow! So sorry to hear that you got that reaction! I'll never understand why anyone would want to be cruel. 😢😢😢

LOVE PAUL DOUGLAS .... HAS THAT JOE PALOOKA LOOK ................... AS A LEADING MAN ............... VERY COOL .
Great post! I like all three stars, but I can't see Paul Douglas a a guy that attracts the likes of Darnell and a nice wife, too. One of the movies with a moral to teach us... wish they still did. TY!

When you're famous, you get the chicks.
@@crose7412 IKR! Women like that hunt in packs and don't care if the guy is a troll as long as his $ is good. Probably happened since the Bible-lol.
As a female, I resemble that remark-lol. If you could hear what vamps say in the ladies' rooms of expensive restaurants, you'd stay celibate. "I'm ordering Steak, Lobster AND Champagne- if I have to be seen in public with the big ape, he's gonna pay dearly." Just one of many comments... *sigh*
Darnell. Ruf! Ruf!
She was no Hope Emerson, but Linda Darnell was indeed strictly from hubbahubbasivlle !!
What a great movie 🍿👍
I was three years old when this movie was made and times really were that clean and innocent back then. It was a great time to grow up until my generation blew everything to smithereens.
Très bon film, excellents acteurs ,domage q les 10 dernières minutes soient mal synchronisées.
Merci d'avoir commenté ! Content que vous ayez apprécié !
Was not Bennet ravishing?!
Two Paul Douglas movies that I'd love to see, but RUclips refuses to show them is, "The Solid Gold Cadillac and Panic in the Streets.
Hey Jeff, check the description for a link to The Solid Gold Cadillac. I have posted a discreet link just for you buddy! Enjoy..#theRet

Playing American football at his age and size, well, that's holl ywood.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe. The premise is rather implausible, even for 1951. Oh well...that's the "magic of the movies" for ya ! :-)
@@jubalcalif9100 Douglas was in his early 40s in 1950-51 so it's just possible.
.Douglas died less than a decade later: he overindulged and qas overweight and was felled by a heart attack in 1959.
That's Zero Mostel as Boots!
I love watching Linda Darnell on the silver screen. I am trying to watch all her movies. I am enjoying her scenes with Paul Douglas, to whom she was married in "Letter to Three Wives." I also like Zero Mostel in this one. Add Joan Bennett and this is a real hidden classic.
Young Billy Gray at his best!
Why should the stadiums, the team owners, etc. make all the money. A lot of money is made on these games and it’s the players who take all the risks. They should lower the price of the admission, the parking and concession fees (concessions could pass savings on to the fans). In this way people could afford to take their kids to games and families could enjoy it together, and of course , in turn the players in stead of millions could earn hundreds of thousands. If the economy keeps heading in the direction it’s going this just might HAVE to happen.

DRAMA ROMANCE
The plot was ridiculous. Paul Douglas is not a leading man. Linda Darnell falling in love with Paul Douglas really? This movie was a train wreck.
Oye vey
I like Paul Douglas well enough but a 'romantic lead' he ain't.
characters!
Douglas is always an underrated leading man...he is really veery cuddly looking!
He may not have been any Huntz Hall but Paul did have his moments....
Zero Mostel
The late great Mr Mostel was a much bigger star on Broadway (Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, etc) than he was in the movies.
PROPAGANDA 'Hollywood Style" smh
As Samuel Goldwyn once said if you want to send messages use Western Union
For whom? Who is it glorifying?
Why do people insist what they've loaded is rare ??? Others have posted this film and in better quality.
Is it too much, to ask, to let people enjoy something with out having to rain on thier enjoyment ?
@@bigguyusa193 why is a lie more enjoyable than the truth. How can anyone truly enjoy this version, when far better versions are available ???
@@pressureworks To most, they don't, spend their time perusing the internet for better versions of anything... they find something that interests them, they watch and for the most part enjoy.. the quality of the particular film may or not be the best available, but they enjoy seeing a film that brings them pleasure... pretty much as simple as that. There are those, that spend inordinate amounts of time on the internet and you tube and are aware of other versions or remastered versions of such films... but to berate those that simply, said, they enjoyed a film, that doesn't meet your standards is a bit harsh... to, some, just seeing the particular film is a rare opportunity...
