A fortnight? I have never heard of that term in my ENTIRE life until now! And I’ve been around for 20 something years with English as my native language. Teaching me something new.
Unfortunately I have heard about that at 10th grade. When my teacher pronounced this word I thought he to have mean one game. Still I think now. Russian native.
I didn't Learn it in my 3rd grade but my brother did and he was the one who told me that 14 days or 2 weeks make a Fortnight I just thought he made that up but then I googled it and it was true
If I remember correctly, a Fortnight is 15 days and 2 weeks is bi-weekly. There is a difference of a day between both. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is what we used to do when setting up payroll software.
For once, German is actually simpler than English :) 10 years -> Jahrzehnt (year-ten-t) 100 years -> Jahrhundert (year-hundred) 1000 years -> Jahrtausend (year-thousand)
Die Dekade, die Zenturie (sehr selten genutzt) und auch das Millennium sind deutsche Bedeutungen für diese Zeitabschnitte. Diese Worte haben ihren Ursprung im lateinischen.
The best thing is when you are learning both languages and you don't Know Fortnight but words in german come to your mind faster than english ones cz you have them fresh😂. Thank you, you reminded me to practise today😊❤
