Now, with all of what I mentioned about Lenko's and Jericho geared 4 and 5 speeds (like the liberty) for bracket racing where consistency is the most important thing, I'd still suggest an automatic that has had the valve body rebuilt and programmed to shift at the proper RPM's for the engine/chassis/car setup you plan on running. Program the valve body correctly, then simply leave it in drive and take advantage of the one edge the automatic has by letting it do it's thing.
I would agree with you. The manual valve body is the dumbest idea ever.... It takes away the ONLY advantage a slushbox has which is consistency. Automatic transmissions are horsepower hogs. It takes a lot of power to turn a planetary gearset. It also takes HP to turn the pump. A slider gear (manual) transmission will ALWAYS have the potential to be faster because of this..... If the driver has the talent to drive it correctly.
I wouldn't use a Lenko for the same reason I wouldn't use a manual valve bodied slushbox... Lenko's are HP hogs because they use planetary gearsets just like the slushboxes do, and planetaries take a lot of HP just to turn them. There's a reason why pro stock went away from the Lenco in favor of the liberty 5 speed they use today. Any jericho type slider gear will do because of the clutchless shifting capabilites they have.
love those big ol' 63's ...especially banging gears and pulling the wheels up. Ready for Spring!
I talked to that old guy with the green chev. that said K&W Mach. Alliance Ohio. What a nice guy!He must be in his 70's. AND still racing!
Great video! Thanks for posting.

a lot of damn nice race cars
Thompson Raceway...........the REAL deal !
Let me add to you statement, "if the driver has the talent AND GUTS to drive it correctly"

Check out the new video pilot of "ShiftersUSA" on the tube. It's good! Hope it comes about on TV.
You mean "by letting it do YOUR thing"
