Good documentary! There's a slight misinformation in the video, Vyborg city is nowadays part of Russia, but during the designing of stool 60, it was part of Finland.
Wow I was just reading about Alvar Aalto the other day when I realized I had a stool 60 on my bedside. And then this comes out wow. This feel like a weird calling...
@@emthegem8141 Ikea made a very similar and much cheaper version with four skinnier legs. Ikea also copied Aaltos "chair 406" and idk how they're getting away with it
You dont understand design. Everything is made for a reason and by someone. There are no just stools if theyre original and innovative. I hate the collabs tho, alvar aalto would never approve.
Daniel Reginald doesn’t matter... it’s a stool, it holds things, and is made of real wood. I can’t justify $ 300+ for something that’s 99.9% indistinguishable.
So this guy invented the stool? No. Oh, well they must be more comfortable? No. So he used some crazy material? Wood. So it's a thing that already existed, that was slightly changed, and is grossly over priced? Yes. Ah, now I get why it's a "Hypebeast" thing.
If you watched the video and that is your opinion, I don't think you understood it. The product is called "Stool 60", and he invented the L-shape which is used in this chair and many others. When the chair was first coming out, it was not over priced, it was affordable. Nowadays you can consider it being "over priced", but since they are making them in Finland where labor is really expensive it's understandable. They hold their value and they don't break. It's the same thing with every other design-furniture: you're paying for the design and the craftsmanship. If you're paying 200 euros for a stool that is going to last you your whole life, it's not a bad deal
Im a finn i my grandparents bought a bunch of these after the ww2. They were cheap cause they were made for anyone and artek wanted everyone to be able to enjoy design. Its not arteks fault its expensive, its capitalism.
can’t believe i watched a 4 and half minute documentary on a stool and was entertained
Me too...
Fr tho
Entertaining*
This chair is not scandinavian design, it's nordic design. Finland isn't part of scandinavia
thank you.
Always that one person
Yep but its the truth 😅
viaborg(Viipuri in finnish) was part of Finland when the stool was designed in 1933. Later Russia invaded and took the city from Finland
well, they were nazis so...even though it was Winter War
Oot varmaan suomalainen niin Neuvostoliitto otti sotakorvauksena viipurin Suomelta, kun se hyökkäsi saksan kanssa neuvostoliittoon.
Ja hävisi
VIIPURI (FIN)
WOW I thought it was just a simple seat to sit on guess not
Nope ......it’s a wooden seat
This guy's voice is like he just woke up
In 1933 Vyborg and it's library were a part of Finland.
exactly, still odd hearing that place being "russian".
Most popular stool is the toilet... Prove me wrong Hypebeast.
No, the most popular stool comes out of your rear end.
Please do more of behind the hype

I bought 4 for $40 over a decade ago from Target. They are still as nice as the day I bought them. Used for seating and tables.
you most likely bought knockoffs

Theyre not real 😂
Does have have a Bape x Karikou Medicom chair? It dropped in 2016
Apple doesn’t use that anymore, they’re getting away from the stools in every retail location
Welp, I have a number of these at home but in plain wood. Looks like I've found a new lockdown painting hobby. Banana bread who? 😷🎨

Bruh this stool has been around for years in Africa and Asia, wasn’t “invented” in FiNlAnD iN 1933 🙄🤣
Yes it was, its one of the most successive designs to this day. You think asians and people from africa invented this 😂😂. Youre a fool
Get IKEA for $15.
