Ben, I have really been enjoying this series. I’m about to order the Sherbourne kit from Vangaurd to get started. I have started a couple of wooden ships in the past but never got far enough to do the masts. I have a question. When you use your lathe on the masts do you use a tool rest and chisels? I have a Shearline lathe and mill and plan to use them.

I have a wood lathe and a machine lathe. For this operation, as crazy as it seems, I use the machine lathe with a cutter that will work for wood. It gives me the accuracy I’m looking for. But if I only had my wood lathe, I wouldn’t hesitate to use the rest and work slowly down to the dimensions you want. It’s way better than working it all by hand.

@@TheMidwestModelShop my Shearline is a little machine lathe. I have used metal working tools on my mill to cut slots in wood with no problems at all. I will try turning some wood and see how it goes. Thank you.

As cool and exciting as the wood kits are I'm just not sure if I'm ready for that yet I did the monte cassino Abby that is wood and that wasn't too bad but these ships feel like a whole level of two up
