Thanks for the effort, I got some issues, I run "sudo crouton -t gnome -r focal" to install the gnome version, but it doesn't launch the Linux, saying to update the kernel to 4.16. any help?
What if when you do sudo crouton -r list or sudo crouton -t X face -r focal it keeps saying command not found over and over and I’ve done exactly what you said but this is what comes up.

The new version of Chroms OS comes with Linux (Beta) non UI, you can enable it in the settings. Settings> Advanced>developers >”enable Linux development environment”. By default it uses Debian

@@s2m719 the terminal icon in ChromeOS is a Debian Linux, which uses apt for packages, you can install any packages using apt. There is also option for changing that to a Ubuntu which takes 4-5 steps. It is not a terminal, you can install UI apps. I am using VLC, Microsoft VSCode in Linux
Sudo commands will not succeed by default. If you want to use sudo commands, use the VT-2 shell (Ctrl-alt-{f2/right arrow/refresh}) or build the image with the login_enable_crosh_sudo USE flag

On the last step, after i closed the terminal and opened a new one i put in "sudo startxfce4" and it just says "no chroots found in /m------"

You don't need this painful process... New version of chromeos support Linux running inside chrome os. This can be enabled in settings
