    Frequently Asked Questions:
    1. What clay do you use?
I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create
    2. What's the difference between the bought paper clay ( amzn.to/2r5FEHY )
and the homemade paper clay (A) ruclips.net/video/LkYGfBz_MTU/видео.html
    (B) ruclips.net/video/_Ef-U6aZEoI/видео.html ?
The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need
    3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay?
Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects.
    4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks?
You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question
    5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations?
I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay
    6. What brand of paper clay do you use?
    I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY
    7. Where can I see the list of materials?
As a general rule of my channel... READ MY VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS! I write it for you guys, is no secret what I use. For every video I write a description of what I do and what I use.
    8. Do you sell your creations?
No, not yet, my daughter loves them too much.
    9. What colors do you use?
I mostly use watercolors and acrylic paint.

S Boz Hi, I used Coach Kote by Wilsons of Exmouth. It's a very hard wearing lacquer. The table is 7 years old and despite a hard life is still serviceable.

I soak my egg crates in a 5 gallon bucket with water and a 2nd 5 gallon bucket with just enough water, to push the crates in the 1st bucket underwater with the weigh of the top bucket. When completely soaked, I scoop some paper chunks with enough water, into a blender and mix to a finer pulp, I use my ninja mixer. I then use my strainer to remove as much water as needed for the result I'm looking for.

I can't wait to start a project. I've been collecting/swiping drink caddy's from McD's, BK and everywhere else I can get them. Its all recycled material and should break down easily. Any type of glue like Hodge Podge, Elmers or any type of wood glue is basically the same PVA bond so it should work. I'm curious about the salt as an additive (I'm assuming this is an issue before it dries) since I don't know if salt prevents mold from growing. Creative Mom, if you can add some sage advice on this, it would be appreciated.

    • @mom4monkeys
      @mom4monkeys 5 лет назад

I’ve been doing the same with the drink caddies!!! 🤣😂
I’ve been collecting those suckers and yelling at my hubby when he doesn’t ask for one so I can start my fairy
      homes!
Me: Why didn’t you get the caddy for the drinks??!!!!
Hubby: (Shrugging and looking confused) Because I’m only getting 2 coffees and I can easily carry them with my 2 hands? (Still looking very confused).
Me: Noooooo...you HAVE to ask for the drink caddy so I can make my fairy hoooooomes!
Hubby: Your what? (Looking even more confused than before)
Me: My FAIRY homes that I’m putting in the office!
Hubby: (Looking at me like I’ve lost my mind) Uhhhh...ok. I’ll ask for them next time. (Reaching out as far as possible with his hand to hand me my coffee like he’s scared I’m going to go crazy suddenly).
      🤣😂🤣🤪🤪
He has since learned to ask for the drink caddies when he goes out for the coffee.
Me: (happily bouncing in my seat when I see him with a caddy). ☺️☺️😊

Can I use the school glue for making a exelent caly?.

    • @Uradamus
      @Uradamus 6 лет назад +7

Stuff like school, scholastic, Elmer's, etc are all just common/brand names for PVA glue. Different versions from different brands may differ slightly on what additives/preservatives are added into the mix, but they should all be interchangeable for craft recipes. If it's advertised as a washable, non-toxic white glue (or even clear in most cases), it's almost certainly some variety of PVA glue.
For what it's worth, you could even make your own homemade substitute using vinegar, corn starch, light corn syrup and hot water. Just google "homemade PVA" and you'll find plenty of pages describing the recipe if you're interested.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong... But my clay os not smooth, even if I put in the mixer... And is not tacky too. I put extra glue, but it doesn't work... Is too wet and if I squeeze de water off, this become too dry, even if I put more glue... That's my second try and I'm almost giving up of this...

Queda mejor con esta mezcla o con la otra? La que le echa maizena. Arcilla. Harina de trigo. Papel higiénico y pega

can this clay be used for projects like the ones where you use the other clay? because the ingredients are so much more accessible...

This is so neat! Thank you for showing it too us. Once you have it on the project and it’s dry, does it mold? Is it easily acceptable to molding during drying?

Gregory Gilliland I don't think it would mold with most of the water squeezed out, some others have added a splash of lemon juice or salt to fight molding to their clay mixes along with a touch of oil so it's not so sticky and easier to work with ;)
After it dries coat it with a outdoor varnish once or twice a year to help preserve the piece from residual molding.
