    This is so cool, finally there's an official package manager for windows. It's already pretty cool can't wait for the new features that will be added

    I use Revouninstaller to remove programs in windows 11. Is this still helpful for removing leftovers & folders or does win 11 do a thorough job of removing programs?
    Are they any negatives when using revouninstaller? I always do a moderate scan & only select the bold black entries it finds.

    Is it possible to ignore a package when you upgrade --all? Some have problems in my case, so I don't want to upgrade those.

    For idiots saying they 'copied' linux, every chair maker in the world is not 'copying' the first chair ever made. Gnome copied Mac too, kde copied windows too.

      no, they literally stole code from appget

    • @featherinescat
      @featherinescat 2 года назад

      @@phoneticalballsack they literally didn't steal a single line of code. read the story instead of the headline. appget is in c# and winget is in c++, they work very differently. but winget uses yaml manifests which are very similar to appget.
      appget is in mit license. there is no legal ground to accuse ms of stealing. but it would be a good will gesture to atleast mention the inspiration.

    unfortunately, this won't run as part of a start-up script, my dreams of fully automated pre-userspace luxury updates are dashed!
    my hope was that, as a system command it could have updated software with no UAC prompts before users logged in, so every time the pc started it would check for updates and apply them, doing this as a logon script results in numerous UAC prompts which our users can't normally agree to as it runs in their context, but so far no winget commands have worked for me at startup :(

      This is a good idea. I was wondering how updates and UAC prompts would behave.

    Due Windows got a package manager, can we get an option to install other desktops like XFCE or GNOME on Linux? And Windows should be Unix based :))).

      I mean like you could install XFCE on WSL 2 with winget install desktop-XFCE-windows.
      Like on Kali apt install kali-desktop-gnome.

      @@xVirtualMagicx it's already very productive lol. You're insane for other reasons. It's very bug free, official, automatically connects itself with all apps in Windows, even the ones which were not installed with it, has newer packages than chocolatey, and is absolutely native.

      It will be delivered to Windows 10 versions 1809 and newer as well as Windows 11 via the Microsoft Store. You will get updates automatically. You will also get preview builds if you are running a Windows Insider version.
