U.S. 63 has the problem of not going through very many major cities. Even worse, it comes close many times. The most important cities actually on U.S. 63 are Kirksville, Columbia, Jefferson City, Rolla, West Plains, and Jonesboro. All the rest are just little small towns you’d blink your eye and miss. I also remember U.S. 63 Southbound being signed for Salem, Missouri until MoDOT rerouted MO-72 up to I-44 in Rolla. I think there might still be a sign for Salem on 44 Westbound for the U.S. 63 exit… and they sign it at St. James exit 195 and at Cuba exit 208. It’s a town of 4900 people with nothing in it.
The way I would do southbound 63: Hayward, Spooner, Turtle Lake (tourist destination), Baldwin, Ellsworth, Red Wing, Winona (with US 61, skip Lake City), Rochester, Spring Valley, New Hampton (county seat), Waterloo, Toledo, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Kirksville, Macon, Moberly, Columbia, Jefferson City, St Louis (with US 50), Rolla, Cabool, West Plains, Cherokee Village (tourist destination), Hoxie, Jonesboro, Brinkley, Little Rock (with I-40), Stuttgart, Pine Bluff, Warren, El Dorado, Ruston.
Good stuff as always man! Sorry I haven't really been commenting much on your videos lately but I just haven't really had a whole lot to say because well, I'd basically just be repeating myself every time and nothing personal or whatever but I just don't really feel like sharing my entire thoughts on everything about the routes anymore :/ I do still very much appreciate watching these videos though, keep up the good work :)
@@courtemanche437 it’s all good man, you don’t have to feel obligated to comment on everything lol. When I comment, I just point out something funny or interesting.
@@GamingBren Thanks! Looks like the 2 faded out. The other one looks like a question mark, so I guess their not sure if it’s interstate 0 going the other way, lol
@@PetShopBear it’s concurrent with other US highways for most of its route in Arkansas. Maybe AR-11 since there’s a few disconnected segments of it around the route
@@PetShopBear ok. So I found my atlas from 1996. 63 originally was on I-555. In 1996, from Jonesboro, the current routing is on US 49, I-40, AR 11, US 79, US 65, AR 15, US 167 until Ruston.

@@L0VTX_H8CA Good info
I must explain Ruston, LA makes sense signing southbound. Ruston is a college town. Home of Louisiana Tech.
@@atworkstation I agree. It should be the control city south out of El Dorado
Preston is on there because of Minn 16 (former US 16) being cosigned with 63 before Spring Valley.

Aight 👍
Wisconsin tends to do a lot of single line controls for the next town. It is a common practice.
20:20 one of the shields says Interstate 0 💀
Nice video though!

when US63 was rerouted through SE Arkansas, what state route did it overtake?

Give me a few minutes to get home. The reroute wasn't too long ago so I am sure I can find one of my atlases from the 90s.

US 63 really should be extended south to supplant US 167 in Louisiana.
New England Time!
"....next time don't sign unincorporated cities..." hahaha
