Good interview Emmy! Richard Elliott is an absolute rock star! We are so blessed to have his unique, exceptional, and generous talent available to us. He has no equal.
I love Richard Elliott! He probably doesn’t remember me, but he’s an old friend of my parents (my dad plays the organ too). I have a random memory of him and his wife coming to our house to visit one evening… I was younger than Emmy, so the details are fuzzy, but at every General Conference for the last 30ish years, I’ve listened for his name and watched for his wavy hair. His talent never ceases to amaze me! ❤
I love this interview. I glad you asked how long it takes to master a difficult piece because when I learn a song, I realize I can’t yet play it in front of a crowd, until like after a year of constant practice. I thought I was just a horrible organist. But if Richard Elliot says it’s normal, then it’s normal… big relief. I am currently still learning Widor’s Toccata, it’s a little over a year now, I’ll post the completed version on my channel when it’s done. Richard Elliot has really inspired me and I look forward to meeting him one day!
Although I'm not Mormon but I've met Richard Elliot when I was 15, me visiting the USA playing the largest organ in the world in Atlantic city on the midmer losh, my manager introduced me to some great American organists and organs I've performed numerous times with the world famous tabernacle choir and performed along Richard, me performing with or alongside Richard I was in my early 20s,
This was amazing, Emmy! Thank you for doing this interview. Brother Elliott was fascinating to listen to, and that song with his feet was awesome! What a treat. 😊 By the way, you said your little brother's name is Elliott. I have a boy with the same name and spelled the same way. :0)
So here is my question: At General Conference when there is a camera view of the organ, I have noticed there are orange marks on the music sheets. What are the orange marks for?

The orange marks are a note for the organist to make a stop (piston) change. Some use different colors. I prefer green myself.
