  • The Dark-eyed Junco is one of fifteen types of Junco, which is also a type of sparrow. They spend lots of time on the ground foraging and really stand out when there is snow on the ground. A migratory bird, they spend the months of October through April in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.

    The juncos appear under my birdfeeders in my area (New England) only during the winter -- while snow is on the ground and finding food is difficult.
