- Comparison of two Warwick Thumb basses - BO 5 vs NT 5.
Part 1 - finger style.
Signal paths for both basses:
1) Warwick - ISP Decimator II - TL Audio Ivory 5051 - DBX 1066 - EMU 0404
2) Warwick - ISP Decimator II - Ampeg SVP Pro - DBX 1066 - EMU 0404
The EQ on both Thumbs and Ivory preamp were set flat. Ampeg preamp was coloured. Both 'Wicks were tuned to G#-C#-F#-B-E.
Basses specifications:
1) BO 5 - 2003, ovangkol/ovangkol/wenge, Just-A-Nut III, MEC J-Style pickups + MEC 2 band preamp
2) NT 5 - 2001, bubinga//ovangkol/wenge, Just-A-Nut III, MEC J-Style pickups + MEC 3 band preamp

Nice comparison just a shame we didn't hear the B string as the scale length and pup placement of the Thumbs really help to create one of the best Bs you will find!
Agree with the B string! Didn't think about it, coz I use it as a thumbrest most of the time haha!

NT sounds a little bit better to my ears 😉 It is tighter, punchier and has more solid sound overall. BO sounds a bit hollow in a mid register in a close comparison. But the difference isn't very drastical 🙂

Soooo... Which do you prefer?
I like the NT better. I suits more with my playing styles (fingers + tapping + slap) & sounds better in the mix, it's "wider" and has more mid range growl. BO is more bright, punchy, aggressive. Great bass too!
@@SaimoN_bass My impression too but I like the brighter sound of the bolt in’s. I have a 2003 Bleached Blonde 4 string that is a BO. Things amazing! Enjoy your videos BTW, thanks for posting!
