My music teacher in grade 5 used to play this for our warm up before class. And we all took turns going under the limbo stick. I’ve sang this song in my head for YEARS (I’m now 28)…. I can’t believe I finally found it! So many childhood memories 😢
I saw him at the West Virginia State Fair back in the early 2000s. He got the audience involved more than any musician I’ve ever seen before and he brought people on stage to limbo and twist. It was a great performance and it was only like $10 to go to it.

This song is so much fun near the end of a nights performance. I was playing it on the NCL Jewel .. and the entire room started dancing at their tables. This song still sounds great at my live gigs. (pre Covid) .. and it certainly works well on the Cruise Ship gigs as well. My Students love to learn and play this song. If you need it transposed into a different key to make it easier to sing, i can help you with that as well. Gotta Love the Classics. ;-)

When I was a young sailor back in 1981 and we hit the Virgin Islands as our liberty call, this song came into my mind and I knew the carribbean islands always had local island natives do the limbo acts for entertainment and I was always looking for that act in the virgin islands back then...I did find a place talking to natives there but the act was on the days after my liberty call ends.
Holy spamoli! I grew up listening to this song, and wrongly assumed, Chubby Checker was, well, fat! OMG! He's gorgeous! And what an infectious smile and warm personality. So thankful for RUclips--this is like having a 2nd childhood :-))
My guess because of the black and white motif, is that this performance could have been on Dick Clark's America Bandstand. I came to RUclips because in a commercial there was a flaming Limbo stick and he did not dance it correctly, then this song started to play in my head.

Did you know, funny interesting about this songs, this song featured in the chuck e cheese likes restaurant and arcade park called dandy bear amusement park in texas, but in the park the songs was not saying "limbo" but they changes into "dandy".

They would do the "Limbo Skate" with the stick and this song pretty much every night. The winner would get free candy, a free drink, free admission next time, or something of that nature.
