Seeing Bud Light marinate on the shelf brings laughter & joy to millions.
While the Busch family did a tremendous job building that company into the worlds largest brewer, they did not see this hostile takeover coming back in 2008. There were lots of kids in that family, and collectively they owned less than 10 percent of the stock. They were powerless to stop it. InBev is a Belgian company, but the three main players in the company, including Carlos Brito, are Brazilian. AB even invited those three to tour the company as a goodwill gesture back in the mid 2000’s. That where they got the idea to try to take them over. Really a fascinating story about how publicly traded companies can be bought out, very hard to stop it.
It was a tragedy to both the workers and consumers of AB

Selling it back to the Busch family is a good start but they will need to improve the recipe because it's not a great tasting beer...
That's why it was so easy for people to switch to another brand because there is no special flavor about their beer to draw people back to it.
Prohibition basically destroyed the taste buds of at least one generation of Americans. It wasn't until large numbers of GIs and tourists traveling overseas to Germany, Belgium and the UK took a liking to the local brews and started looking for them stateside did most Americans realize that there was something better out there.

The sale to Inbev was unpopular in Missouri. The economies and market at the time made sense, but it hurt the area. Many of US shareholders & Warren Buffet favored the sale. As I remember, the family wasn't happy but were not in control. The governor at the time Matt Blunt called the sale deeply troubling. Buy it back Mr. Busch and lets bring Missouri good sense back to this company. Let the Show Me State show everyone the right way to brew and sell beer!
It was not sold, the company was taken by hostile takeover and then that violated the US anti-trust laws and AB had to be busted up before InBev could take it. That's how Corona and Modelo became owned by an American company and InBev was forbidden to own controlling interest in any Mexican brewery.

Why did they sell off Budweiser in the first place? Sales going down, or other problems? Did they have some reason to suspect the demise of the brand and bail out before things got bad. What did they think would happen, the new owners wouldn't change anything?? I think Bud is done for good. Can the family save it if they buy it back? Maybe. It would be a tough road for sure.
