You can tell he is also such an empathetic person. The way he looks at Josh with so much focus. You can tell he truly listens. He is someone I would definitely love to have a conversation with. He seems so humble and so genuine.
@milirodriguez8493 He was at a Comicon in my city a few years ago and he's genuinely just like that. When he was on the panel talking with fans his responses were very personal and direct to that person. He even gave someone a sip of his mixed drink because it was their birthday and the venue didn't serve alcohol lol
Matthew thinks our parents tortured us by constantly playing Scooby doo, little does he know we actually tortured our parents if they didn’t play Scooby doo lmaooo
I watched it with my family obsessively and it's probably the only one we all loved equally. Land of a Million Drums became my favorite song for a while.
In my household, it was an equal mutual torture. The only one not wanting to watch Scooby Doo was my husband, and he didn’t get a vote, as it was 6 ( 5 kids and I) to his one. He really did not understand my fascination with even watching the Scooby-Doo cartoons. Plus, he told me there was something seriously demented with me because I insisted I had to watch Batman the animated series. I have no idea why I was married to him.
It brought back that familiar ache that's always on the edge of everything for me. My dad fell and suffered a severe brain bleed that there was no coming back from, and I had to hold his and my mom's hand (they were married for 53 years) and though all of my pain be strong enough to let him go. Never hesitate to remind people you love them, nothing is forever.
Yeah, I know what it’s like to start and then stop that sentence right there because you just can’t. It shows how thin the damn wall holding that lake of emotion back is.
@deetstreet27 Definitely, I think it comes from evil people not thinking that they are evil. Empathetic people can view these people from the outside and figure out where it comes from, and if you have acting skill you can turn understanding into performance~
One of the things I wish I could time travel to witness/participate in is being on set when Vincent Price was filming The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Apparently he cooked for the crew and told stories to entertain them.
@Nunya-z7fwas it the word emotionally or vulnerable? Or the fact they were put together? I’m all for roasting therapy speak being incorrectly implemented in conversations by armchair psychologists, but that’s a bit of a reach, bro.
@obsessedwithcups8037 Exactly, being vulnerable is a normal human experience. The weird therapy talk comes in when you start overpraising someone for showing emotion as if that isn't a normal human thing to do. It's kind of shocking I have to point that out, but go on...
@Nunya-z7f I understand what you are saying - it is true though that men (speaking about American men) still tend to struggle with this type of thing even in the era of therapization. So much so that the people you are referring to feel the need to point it out. They appreciate it because they rarely see it, which I would agree with. I am a man with a lot of wonderful male friends but I haven’t seen my father cry before, neither my brother. In fact, those same friends have never seen me cry. That’s long winded but people pointing it out is not for lack of a reason.
I just want to give Matthew Lillard a hug this whole interview. He’s clearly struggling so much right now with the loss of his dad and I respect him so much for talking about it and doing this for us despite this. Both of these men are clearly so amazing and kind and respectful and i can’t express how much Matthew lillard means to me.
Lost my dad a little over 2 years ago and have lost grandparents to dementia. You are not alone. It hurts and it may always hurt but it does get less sharp. All my love to you.
This wasn’t an interview. This was a conversation. I loved that Lillard just asked you questions back and Josh just went in. This was great stuff. Huge fan of both of you guys.
Agree! But it was so funny when he thought it was more of a young social media thing out for cheap likes in the beginning. But I knew he was in for a journey and that Josh would make him understand long the way 😄 A bit funny in the end when he said to have "no preconceived notions". 🩷
Reminds me of the interview hot ones did with Paul Rudd. The only guest I've seen actually wanting to be there to have a genuine conversation with Sean Evans. Wasn't there to promote a movie or a show, just there to eat hot wings and talk to Sean
Okay so personally this episode seemed more like a conversation to me. And I love those types of interviews a lot because it doesn’t feel like an interview it feels like to people/strangers gettting to know each other on a surface and deep level while eating a meal together.
Matthew Lillard just turned the tables and interviewed Josh without him realizing. It was more like 2 people getting to know each other than just one being interviewed
Almost all previous guests have been incredibly polite to the team, but Matthew bringing in everyone that is off screen to sit at the table was so genuinely touching. I'm tearing up over here
This is the best episode for that reason. I've never been a fan of celebrity culture, yadayada, but Matthew is someone in the public eye I would love to run into. He seems very genuine and true to himself.
The recognition he showed them, the appreciation, it was so genuine and so lovely. I love that he included them more than once, too, acknowledging them continuously. He is the real deal.
This was so interesting. He said he has no emotional connection to food, then almost immediately proved that wrong when discussing why he chose the food and discussing his parents. I think it's more that he never realized how much of an emotional connection there can be with food until that very moment.
Well thats what he explained, he doesn't have an emotional connection with most food. But he has emotional connection with people who have created great memories with food so he has a very small category of food he connects with. I don't think he was saying he doesn't have that connection, it was more of he had to think hard about where the connection starts
@xbatbaby It seems he does have a very strong emotional connection to food, unfortunately that emotion appears to be negative. As he said he was overweight, I think he may still be very hurt still.
@lokilxixwhich i dont blame him. I struggled with it too as a kid and people do not treat you like human! Diet culture should be kinder to children. Make them enjoy healthy food
I'm not speaking for Matthew, but in my experience if you are a fat kid (whether you become "acceptable" later or not) there is a lot of shame around food. About saying you like food, or even think about it.
I was not really familiar with Matthew's body of work as an actor. Whatever came into my peripheral view was not really in my area of interest. But seeing him as a "regular" person, I find that he's pretty special. The empathy that he shares with each person he comes in contact with says a lot about him as a human being.
This is fascinating. Matthew Lillard came into this interview with mistrust. Watching the video is witnessing the breaking of a barrier. Josh is connecting on a human level in real time with someone who didn't believe in the gimmick but found himself engrossed in the genuine community developed by the cast and crew. Thank you for showing the humanity that we all hide behind all the armor.
@amber-ce9vd Honestly, I think it was when he realized the effort and authenticity in the taco salad. he seemed to kinda understand where there were going with connecting food to memories
@amber-ce9vdif you want a very like visable breaking point, look at how happy he is when they unveil the 2nd course. Like he's so genuinely surprised and happy to see it
Yet right before this I saw a video recommendation on youtube from a Doctor about why men sharing emotions in relationships ultimately destroys the relationship. I'd rather have a million more videos like this then one of those. What a well spent hour watching these two eat food and talk about life. Beautiful.
@ItsLionspear Only true for women who are emotionally stunted/avoidant attachment themselves. Too many of those in both genders. I really hope more and more people start getting help
My dad literally pulled me out of school saying I needed to go to the dentist BUT WE WERE ACTUALLY GOING TO THE OPENING OF THE SCOOBY DOO MOVIE AHHHHHHH IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVERRRR
Thats so awesome!! Your dad sounds great! I wish I could do that 😂 small town AND my kids think the office staff are their friends bc they're their friends parents and grandparents 😂😂😂 they'd definitely get super excited and accidentally tell on me 😂
It's a phenomenal title for him! I saw a comment on the short they posted for this EP and someone straight up asked "uhh does this guy have a disability" and it reminded me so hard of getting bullied for being neurodivergent. Matthew literally grew up with a learning disability and this bad-faith asshat proved why we need Weird Adult rep for the Weird Kids and Weird Teens. More Matthew for all! /silly
Matt is like Josh’s older self. And when he embraces Josh at the end saying how his dad would be proud of him, it was basically Josh’s older self saying “You did well kid”.
Tbh I think he has emotional connection to alot of things if he can connect the dots. He seems to be a nice senitive person whos In touched with his emotions
So funny hearing Matt talk about kids being in mini vans watching Scooby Doo. That DVD is still in my Chevy Suburban and my 8 year old niece demands to watch it on every car ride.
You know, it's my fault really, for paying my internet bill. I have no one to blame but myself. Jokes on you though, I planned on crying at 7 am today anyway.
1:03:25 growing up my grandma was my best friend. Id spend so many days watching the scooby doo movies at her house with my uncle, not realizing how much I would cherish those moments after her passing. On the day she passed away, she wore a blue sweatshirt with the word "Believe" on it. Thank you Matthew for giving me a moment of feeling her presence again. As soon as that word left your mouth tears started running down my face knowing she was here with me.
I feel like Josh saw the gap between food, connection, and Matthew. And brought forth options he knew would make Matt smile. He helped bridge that gap and probably didnt even have to. This crew is so talented at making non-believers have an experience they didnt think was gonna happen and one they probably wont forget.
I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this, but it was a bit refreshing to watch a celebrity who turned the interview back onto the interviewer a few times. It felt very down-to-earth. It really threw me off when Matt asked Josh a question immediately after answering, such as, "When did you find fellowship? When did you find people?" ML is literally just one of the coolest down the earth people on the planet. Have always loved Matthew Lillard, been a childhood icon of mine.
It's why I like this show. It's more like a conversation and exchange of ideas and philosophy than an interview. Janette McCurdy's episode was really good with that too
Not sure if it's Josh or the producers that makes it happen, but the way that the conversations are allowed to go both directions is a highlight of this series.
When Matthew referred to his dad in the past tense that broke me. My mother just got diagnosed with Alzheimer's last month, and it's been a whirlwind for my family.
I came here for funny ha ha stories and stayed for a beautiful deep and genuine conversation that made me want to go hug everyone in my community. I am so jealous of people who get to have Matt and Josh as their friends. Thank you to Josh and everyone involved for making this show and inspiring people toward a more fulfilling life.
Had to get that last punch in of “your dad would be so proud of you” in there huh. 😭 this was such a beautiful interaction and conversation to listen in to.
There is a point in this where it feels like the cameras just completely disappear and its 2 people having an honest conversation, which I think is the highest point a show like this can achieve. Really lovely episode
43:52 i’ve never heard a celebrity admit this before; that it’s not something special about them but rather someone found meaning in them. i think that’s so important because i always want to tell those people: matthew lillard didn’t save your life, you did.
Mine is "What do you do when your foundation falls apart? I don't know. They don't teach you that in school." from SLC Punk. I will always remember that for as long as I live.
Does he play Rorschach in something? I thought this was a Watchmen quote and now I feel like I missed out on a cool intersection of media that I would really like!
I feel like Josh has talked pretty openly about his childhood with guests lol. Jeanette McCurdy and Vic Michaelis (I’m probably butchering spelling) quite recently
41:24 I met Matthew Lillard at a horror convention a couple years ago. I went alone because I was new to the area and in a deep depression. He said, “Oh my goodness, you have such a lovely face!” and it made my year. Such a sweet man💗
For a celebrity guest to ask the host "when do you most feel the loss of your parents" truly shows just how much Matthew 1) listens 2) cares and 3) is humble and open enough to not make it all about him. Man, what a great celebrity he is.
I thought to myself a lot while watching this, "Wow, it feels like Josh needed this episode to happen." But then I realized by the end, with them talking about their aspirations and reasons for doing what they do, that that's exactly why he's doing it. Because if he needs it, other people will end up needing it as well. Makes me want to do something I need, too.
I love that he mentioned a little queer kid in Kansas City because that was quite literally me and my friends at Planet Comicon getting to meet him. It's nice to know that the weight that people place on those interactions with him are not lost to him. One of the best actors I've ever had the privilege of meeting. Love me some Matthew Lillard
It’s so sweet how much Matthew just immediately wants to dig deep into who Josh is, wether that’s him deterring from digging deep in himself or just showing how much he instantly deeply cares about others. Love them! 🥹
What a gift Matthew is... he doesn't realize it, but including the crew, the cooks, talking about taking time with people. What a joy of a human being. He's just a human, and I love that.
Hot ones has turned into mostly just famous person wants to get themselves out there to promote something. Last meals has mostly been people josh seems to genuinely want on the show.
@WarningShotLoL I've watched Hot Ones since season 1. They always gave celebs a chance to promote something. You should watch Sean's episode on this show, he basically talks about trying to keep the core fun of the concept while doing interesting interviews.
This episode built up to the ending so beautifully. Matthew is wonderfully introspective, but what hit me most was Josh in this one. He's a silly fun internet guy, but I forget he is an incredible person that has been through a lot of pain.
57:50 the way Matthew is watching you speak shows how genuine of a person he is. He is truly connected to your story. How lucky are we to live in the same timeline
The fact that he was talking about being a mime and he didn't say "some things are best left unsaid" has to be the biggest missed opportunity in comedic history lmao
This episode genuinely changed my life. Coming from an abusive family in a small town and struggling with depression, I had to escape into other medias to not drown from a very young age. Scooby doo one was of the things that helped me escape my reality as a child, and seeing how genuine this man is truly brought me full circle. Josh, you are such an incredible man and this could have never happened without you. I know your father is so proud of you, thank you for everything you’ve done man. These conversations truly healed something within me.
I hope you're proud of yourself Kelsey. Scooby Doo might have helped, but YOU got you through all of that and to where you are now. That's no small thing. You're doing great ❤
46:53 wow seeing just the crew all together on the table and Mathew interacting just a little bit is so cool and it really got me emotional for some reason. Just so wholesome and cool. Literally the cool uncle.
Scooby Doo was so perfect because everyone was cast incredibly. They embodied who I imagined each cartoon character would actually look like in my head.
This was the most beautiful and wholesome display of secure, positive masculinity that i've ever seen. I have adored Matthew Lillard for as long as I can remember and this interview is a perfect example of why. They teased eachother, they made jokes at eachothers' expense and they also had very real moments of emotion where they held space for each other. Not to mention Matthew bringing on all the BTS cast to introduce themselves and for him to thank them and share the story about his dad. Hands down my favourite episode. Bravo!
this man has had the same energy for 30 years and i’ve loved him the whole time. one of the realest people in the entire world. we need more matthew lillards wandering around
SLC Punk is the sequal to Hackers. To quote Steve-O: "You left New York, the hub, the mecca, the center of the world.. " After the events of the DaVinci virus, Cereal Killer's parents moved him to SLC for safety where he started going by Steve-O and leaning into his punk roots.
WARNING - don't watch/listen to this at the office unless you want to run to the bathroom in tears. Matt is one of the kindest and most emotional famous people every and it's A LOT LOL
I was crying while doing my dishes 😭 Your comment also reminded me of writing my thesis at my internship in an office full of people. I listened to a lot of "epic movie music" and soundtracks and love the AtLA soundtrack. Beautiful, energizing, epic! But even after 20-30 times I still wasn't prepared for when Leaves from the Vine would start playing. I choked up every single time)
I cannot speak for either of them, but throughout this video, it feels to me like they begin seeing themselves in one another, bringing so much mutual respect and understanding. Every word of encouragement and compliment seems to be said to the other just as much as to themselves. This video radiates of care and inspires me to do better in the healthiest way possible.
Matthew's performance in SLC Punk remains to this day one of the biggest gut-punches I've ever seen a film pull, and was absolutely incredible to watch. Loved him ever since.
🖤That’s a fun way to ask for Markiplier to make an episode. I imagine he’s been just so busy with everything, but it would be dope af for him to come in here.
Matthew is so passionate and in touch with his emotions as a genuine human being, I guess that's what makes him such a great actor, you can just feel what he's feeling.
I genuinely love him for his sensitivity. I love that he cries so easily and openly, what a beautiful thing.
You can tell he is also such an empathetic person. The way he looks at Josh with so much focus. You can tell he truly listens. He is someone I would definitely love to have a conversation with. He seems so humble and so genuine.
I kept hearing the exact same catch in the throat I get when I try to say something that breaks me up...
@milirodriguez8493 He was at a Comicon in my city a few years ago and he's genuinely just like that. When he was on the panel talking with fans his responses were very personal and direct to that person. He even gave someone a sip of his mixed drink because it was their birthday and the venue didn't serve alcohol lol
you’re so beautiful twin
Josh is empathetic too ❤
Matthew thinks our parents tortured us by constantly playing Scooby doo, little does he know we actually tortured our parents if they didn’t play Scooby doo lmaooo
My kids love those movies.
I watched it with my family obsessively and it's probably the only one we all loved equally. Land of a Million Drums became my favorite song for a while.
Nah I've always been obsessed with scooby since I was kid.
*spooky island theme intensifies*
"you know my dad-" cut the cameras im already crying
It brought back that familiar ache that's always on the edge of everything for me. My dad fell and suffered a severe brain bleed that there was no coming back from, and I had to hold his and my mom's hand (they were married for 53 years) and though all of my pain be strong enough to let him go. @ericconrad8854 I'm so sorry for your loss ❤ I'm 1,5 week away from my mom dying a year ago and I still sometimes can't believe she's gone
Yup
Yeah, I know what it’s like to start and then stop that sentence right there because you just can’t.
It shows how thin the damn wall holding that lake of emotion back is.
my mom has dementia too and i had no idea about his dad
Matt bringing in the staff to say hi and make everyone introduce them and thanking them. HE IS SO LOVELY
Lillard confirmed what I have always thought: the nicest people make the best movie/TV villains.
Right? It's a weird and weirdly wholesome phenomenon.
I think it comes from a place of having been hurt and understanding what hurts others and the psychology of victim/perpetrator.
Both the kindness and the capacity to portray evil.
Matthew didn't even need to use 1% of his total power to make me start crying like a little baby
Literally within 5 min of the video starting 😂
what a reference. I see you, friend o7
Matthew is a genuine guy, my favorite actor, person. Made me cry man
As a grown man, watching 2 grown men crying and being emotionally vulnerable is so beautiful and important!
The overindulgence of therapy talk is so exhausting on the internet.
@Nunya-z7fwas it the word emotionally or vulnerable? Or the fact they were put together?
I’m all for roasting therapy speak being incorrectly implemented in conversations by armchair psychologists, but that’s a bit of a reach, bro.
@Nunya-z7f being emotionally vulnerable is not therapy talk it’s, like, a thing that people do. You should try it some time.
Both of these men are clearly so amazing and kind and respectful and i can’t express how much Matthew lillard means to me.
YES 😭 I’m going through it too and man it’s hard and I know most of us go through something like this, but it somehow feels really lonely.
Lost my dad a little over 2 years ago and have lost grandparents to dementia. You are not alone. It hurts and it may always hurt but it does get less sharp. All my love to you.
The Matt, the myth, the lillard
real
Our Patron Saint of Weirdos.
@StarkRavenMad88he is our king

The Thew
This wasn’t an interview. This was a conversation. I loved that Lillard just asked you questions back and Josh just went in. This was great stuff. Huge fan of both of you guys.
A few guests have done this with Josh.
I love those episodes.
Those moments I love the most in these interviews! That and when it’s an unexpected question. Absolutely love how Josh interviews
This was catharsis.
Agree! But it was so funny when he thought it was more of a young social media thing out for cheap likes in the beginning. But I knew he was in for a journey and that Josh would make him understand long the way 😄
A bit funny in the end when he said to have "no preconceived notions". 🩷

I can see in Matt’s eyes that he’s holding himself back from fully adopting Josh.
I'm so glad you also saw that
lol
Okay so personally this episode seemed more like a conversation to me. And I love those types of interviews a lot because it doesn’t feel like an interview it feels like to people/strangers gettting to know each other on a surface and deep level while eating a meal together.
Just two OC nerds becoming friends. I love it.
@MrxPx91That is definitely my favorite subtype of this show
Matthew Lillard just turned the tables and interviewed Josh without him realizing. It was more like 2 people getting to know each other than just one being interviewed
Mathew is the most confidently awkward, authentic, cool guy that we all wanna be
The genuine love he has for people is evident ❤
Almost all previous guests have been incredibly polite to the team, but Matthew bringing in everyone that is off screen to sit at the table was so genuinely touching. I'm tearing up over here
This is the best episode for that reason. I've never been a fan of celebrity culture, yadayada, but Matthew is someone in the public eye I would love to run into. He seems very genuine and true to himself.
He is genuinely one of the nicest guys. I was lucky to work with him a few times when I was in the D&D industry. Dude's a class act.
The recognition he showed them, the appreciation, it was so genuine and so lovely. I love that he included them more than once, too, acknowledging them continuously. He is the real deal.
He definitely has peak dad energy.
As soon as he did and started thanking them, the waterworks couldn't stop.
This was so interesting. He said he has no emotional connection to food, then almost immediately proved that wrong when discussing why he chose the food and discussing his parents. I think it's more that he never realized how much of an emotional connection there can be with food until that very moment.

@xbatbaby Yeah we could do better.
Every time he mentions his parents he chokes up. He loves his parents so much. I love that.
"your dad would be proud of you". man i was already bawling, this video has done numbers on me. so beautiful
Same for me.
Every episode is special, but this one is perhaps more special than most.
@mythicalkitchen I hope this is the start of a great relationship between Matthew and Josh, truly.
@mythicalkitchenconfirmed this is Josh commenting. If so, you are beautiful; thanks for sharing this with us.
I was not really familiar with Matthew's body of work as an actor. Whatever came into my peripheral view was not really in my area of interest. But seeing him as a "regular" person, I find that he's pretty special. The empathy that he shares with each person he comes in contact with says a lot about him as a human being.
Not Matthew Lillard getting me tearing up 5 mins into the video
And then every 5 minutes afterward lol
I also cried 12 times, not because of the food
Watching this at work was a mistake. 😭
@alexandrarix3573same
Dude fr 😭 especially that bit in their conversation about taking the risk and all, man that hit hard
I think this is my favorite episode, he goes back and forth between crying and cracking jokes and it just feels so wholesome
❤ it was def one of the very best for me too
Came here to say the same thing 👌 it’s perfect.
lillard saw a kid. Josh is his kid. I think Lillard saw his child grown. That shoulder grasp.....it means a lot. ......it really does.
"Every Lillard bit stays goddamnit" Josh knows what the people want.
Matt: "I feel like I'm in prison!"
Me: "Well, yeah Matt, you ARE having your last meal."
This is how I learned that Matthew Lillard directed a movie with Jacob Wysocki. Insane.
So there's no reason why he shouldn't be on D20.
Amazing that I saw a fraction of a second of his face and went “was that Jacob?”
You should watch Fat Kid Rules The World tonight, it freakin rules.
@mythicalkitchen on it.
❤
Just a warning, the video gets really blurry at some points.
Yeah, not sure how, but watching this video made my room all dusty for like 30 minutes.
@Shichiaikan it started raining indoors 😂
Actually got so scared that we screwed up the upload lol
SO MANY ONIONS
@mythicalkitcheny'all are all the best of the best! Watching your videos gets me through a lot of hard times. Thank you all!
I don't think a better interview exists on the internet.
I've rarely seen an interview form make guests open up and actually cry before.
Well said! I completely agree!
The vibe shift was palpable.
when did the barrier break? i'm not very good at telling vibe shifts
Like he's so genuinely surprised and happy to see it
This is strange cause isnt matthew lillard just older Josh from another timeline?
This^^
I wonder if this is what the other x-men feel when nate grey x-man and nate summers Cable are both at the x-mansion for breakfast
I cannot believe how accurate that is.
Canon
I cannot unsee this now YOURE SO RIGHT
The masculinity in this room is exactly what we need more of!
Yet right before this I saw a video recommendation on youtube from a Doctor about why men sharing emotions in relationships ultimately destroys the relationship. I'd rather have a million more videos like this then one of those. What a well spent hour watching these two eat food and talk about life. Beautiful.
It sure is
The "lonliness epidemic" wouldn't exist if men talked to one another like this.
@ItsLionspear Only true for women who are emotionally stunted/avoidant attachment themselves. Too many of those in both genders. I really hope more and more people start getting help
@Katastr0phic_Katicorn I do this with my friends, but all the womens take them away from me and they move away. 😢
Can you imagine a movie with Matthew Lillard, Branden Frasier, and Keanu Reeves? All the humble dudes in hollywood would make an awesome movie
i really want brendan fraser on the show now, and paul dano too 😭
I barely made it out of this episode in one piece and now you want BRENDAN FLIPPIN' FRASER?!? I'll need to take the week off
@psycholover414THIS. ILL HAVE TO CALL OUT OF WORK, DEAR GOD
+😊
I require Brendan Fraser. I will cry. I love that man.
PAUL DANO UR COOKING
My dad literally pulled me out of school saying I needed to go to the dentist BUT WE WERE ACTUALLY GOING TO THE OPENING OF THE SCOOBY DOO MOVIE AHHHHHHH IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVERRRR
That’s SO lovely 😭😭😭
Totally! man that was it! i was a bit older. Mathew lillard defintely was a part of my teens that gave me serene memories.
what a sweet memory
I just had my first daughter a few months ago, I can’t wait to have fun daddy daughter memories like that
Thats so awesome!! Your dad sounds great! I wish I could do that 😂 small town AND my kids think the office staff are their friends bc they're their friends parents and grandparents 😂😂😂 they'd definitely get super excited and accidentally tell on me 😂
"Patron saint of the weird kids" Its a really good descriptor, awesome to Matthew Lillard on this. I looooove Hackers
He needs to be on the Weird Kids podcast when it comes back. He's worked with Critical Role before
It's a phenomenal title for him! /silly
One of my favorite movies and 13 ghosts.
SLC Punk is one of his to watch too. I’m glad for all the Hackers love though, it’s deserved
@hj45-s9kSLC Punk closely followed by Hackers.
i watched to see Matthew Lillard not cry my eyes out
Matt is like Josh’s older self. And when he embraces Josh at the end saying how his dad would be proud of him, it was basically Josh’s older self saying “You did well kid”.
Balled like a baby who got his pacifier taken
Why do I feel like I’m watching Josh with his future self 🤣🤣
was not expecting rain today
'
Matthew "I don't have an emotional connection to food" Lillard 😂
Like 3 minutes later *crying*
Proceeds to have THE most emotional connection to foot that we’ve seen on the show 😭
Tbh I think he has emotional connection to alot of things if he can connect the dots.
Jokes on you though, I planned on crying at 7 am today anyway.
ya I don't need to see to work today it's fine everything is FINE (:
We're crying together at 7am 🥹
RIGHT
lmao in the midst of the tears this made me laugh. Thank you :)
literally me right now 😭
Harry Styles on royal court and Matthew Lillard on Last Meals… feels like my birthday and Christmas all at once!
sounds super backwards
Frrrr
literally me x
That's what i just thought!!!!
LIERALLY
Can confirm, I was not tortured with Scooby Doo, but in fact, tortured my parents with Scooby Doo 🤣
"I was trying to get laid, you were trying to bring the world together" i'm dying
That does it. If they do a follow up movie to 2023's Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, they NEED to find a role for Matthew Lillard.
God I hope that movie gets a sequel
The last 10 minutes of this felt like I stepped into a boxing ring with no practice
Not there yet. But I can guess.
This just feels like we're watching two mates having a deep chat. It's lovely.
It's why I like this show. It's more like a conversation and exchange of ideas and philosophy than an interview. Janette McCurdy's episode was really good with that too
The Jennette McCurdy and Terry Crews video is just as great at this, love how personal and back-and-forth these interviews are
I said I felt like I was watching two old friends bare their souls at a bar, and I'm not supposed to be listening in.
I am sorry your family is going through that.
Sorry man, I've been there. Wish you well, my dude.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love how Josh doesn’t push back on Matthew asking him questions
Reverse interview! lol
"We're going to have cheap food, we're going to have cheap wine, everyone has to leave by twelve, you can't get more booze."
These are truly simple but fabulous hosting rules 👏
Had to get that last punch in of “your dad would be so proud of you” in there huh. 😭 this was such a beautiful interaction and conversation to listen in to.
It felt to me like Matthew was trying to be genuine and Josh was deflecting just a little bit at the end. Not a criticism, but just an observation.
There is a point in this where it feels like the cameras just completely disappear and its 2 people having an honest conversation, which I think is the highest point a show like this can achieve. Really lovely episode
Bro made the most heart wrenching episode on Last Meal
43:52 i’ve never heard a celebrity admit this before; that it’s not something special about them but rather someone found meaning in them. i think that’s so important because i always want to tell those people: matthew lillard didn’t save your life, you did.
Yungblud also said it really well. "I didn't save your life , you did. My music was just the soundtrack"
This is probably the most I've cried during a Last Meal episode. What a real man Matthew Lillard is.
My fav Matthew lillard quote is “I’m not stuck in here with you. YOURE stuck in here with ME.” That’s the type of energy I carry walking into any room
@Nothanksimtired it is from Watchmen but that lines probably been used in many other projects since then.
Amazing to see someone run the NY/Hollywood gauntlet and be such a genuine soul that still feels all the feels.
Around 15:00 - Matthew Lillard getting Josh to open up about his late childhood / early adulthood just shows how great of an interviewer Lillard is!
I feel like Josh has talked pretty openly about his childhood with guests lol. Jeanette McCurdy and Vic Michaelis (I’m probably butchering spelling) quite recently
Scooby doo was in fact in the back of my moms SUV and we watched it every day
41:24 I met Matthew Lillard at a horror convention a couple years ago. I went alone because I was new to the area and in a deep depression. He said, “Oh my goodness, you have such a lovely face!” and it made my year. Such a sweet man💗
The way he keeps prompting Josh to learn more and more about him as a person is so precious, he really just wants to talk and learn
Do it!
As a Kansas Citian I was proud to know that he remembered somebody here that left a lasting impact.
What. Why was this so tender? It is so special and magical to be able to walk in to a room and bring this energy. My god 😭
Can't believe you invited the man behind the slaughter on Last Meals smh
but it's been so long
@WyvernWinter712 Since I last have seen my son lost to this monster
We all wanna know about the last mean but what about the last bite
It’s so sweet how much Matthew just immediately wants to dig deep into who Josh is, wether that’s him deterring from digging deep in himself or just showing how much he instantly deeply cares about others. Love them! 🥹
What a gift Matthew is... he doesn't realize it, but including the crew, the cooks, talking about taking time with people. What a joy of a human being. He's just a human, and I love that.
“I don’t wanna think about your question” such a mood
32:44 hearing Josh talk about the timeline of the show is crazy. Feels like lightning in a bottle. Can't believe it's been only 3 years.
47:55 You KNOW the show does a perfect job of making guests feel at home when they bring their knee up and sprawl at the table like that lol
His second time too
This is what Hot ones originally was projected to be, but got lost in the money sauce.
ahahah 😭
Hot ones has turned into mostly just famous person wants to get themselves out there to promote something. Last meals has mostly been people josh seems to genuinely want on the show.
@WarningShotLoLyeah I'm terrified this is what it will become, but it being mythical I'm very hopeful it will not
@ThjyuGamingI dont think it will. This premise and format are much more aligned to long, detailed, heartfelt conversations than hot ones 🙂
Once again: Just two buff bespectacled bros being wholesome
This is not the episode I expected to sob over😭
Honest to God like what 😭
57:50 the way Matthew is watching you speak shows how genuine of a person he is. He is truly connected to your story. How lucky are we to live in the same timeline
Instantly started crying on that part😭😭🥹🥹💓
Matthew Lillard is truly such a gift!!
You're doing great ❤
58:17 what a powerful moment. I'm not crying you're crying.
Nah, I'm crying.
We are ALL crying. And if you’re not,…
this actually got me so good
I’m weeping and smiling - what a beautiful moment
i’m bawling and i’m so happy about it
46:53 wow seeing just the crew all together on the table and Mathew interacting just a little bit is so cool and it really got me emotional for some reason. Just so wholesome and cool. Literally the cool uncle.
57:00 Matthew asking the most beautiful question to Josh, and Josh's incredible answer ❤
You bastards. I got things to do, and you gotta drop an interview with my GOAT, and get me emotional at 7 AM...
And I think it might be one of the longest episodes yet! (Which speaks to what a beautiful interaction it was 😊)
56:43 “ you are just dehydrated from all the tears drink your vodka”
😂😂😂😂
Tearing up to a video of Matthew Lillard eating food was definitely not on my 2026 bingo card
It's wild how he went from the insecure kid in Orange County to the literal HUSBAND OF HORROR like so many ppl admire Matthew including myself
Scooby Doo was so perfect because everyone was cast incredibly. They embodied who I imagined each cartoon character would actually look like in my head.
His role in 13 ghosts is underrated.
Yes! I'm not really a horror person but I feel like that movie is criminally unknown.
@Bob@BobDole1216 Matthew Lillard is criminally underrated in general. Such a gem of a person.
@BobDole1216it’s very popular in the horror scene. Watch SLC Punk!
Also his SVU episode with Carol Burnett was phenomenal.
Truly!
Can Matthew Lillard teach a class on being human? We need more people like him in the world.
is this an appropriate time to comment screaming crying throwing up
Of course 😅
Matthew Lillard is such a genuine and sincere individual. What a blessing it is to live in the same era as him.
SLC Punk is the sequal to Hackers.
To quote Steve-O: "You left New York, the hub, the mecca, the center of the world.. "
After the events of the DaVinci virus, Cereal Killer's parents moved him to SLC for safety where he started going by Steve-O and leaning into his punk roots.
Great to see someone in the show biz show emotion, like true emotion.
He's always been very much unapologetically just all emotions on the table and I love that about him. He's great.
WARNING - don't watch/listen to this at the office unless you want to run to the bathroom in tears. Matt is one of the kindest and most emotional famous people every and it's A LOT LOL
why didn't I see this sooner, literally silently bawling my eyes out and pretending I'm just a bit sickly lmaoo
I was crying while doing my dishes 😭
Your comment also reminded me of writing my thesis at my internship in an office full of people. I listened to a lot of "epic movie music" and soundtracks and love the AtLA soundtrack. Beautiful, energizing, epic! But even after 20-30 times I still wasn't prepared for when Leaves from the Vine would start playing. I choked up every single time)
@jonnnnniej Leaves of the Vine gets me every time too!
This was the best Last Meals episode. And it's not even close. I still haven't stopped crying. Thank you Matthew for being so open to your emotions
Sameee
❤ my favorite performance of his
SLC Punk is one of my favorite movies of all time. Matt was iconic!
This is my girlfriend's favorite actor and that's her favorite movie, I can't wait to show this to her when she wakes up 😭😭
Life changing performance for me too - he’s the best
Can we get the Iron Lung director on here?
🖤That’s a fun way to ask for Markiplier to make an episode. I imagine he’s been just so busy with everything, but it would be dope af for him to come in here.
nah, i think the iron lung actor would be better
@EloTheCurioushe just did a podcast
Oh hell yeah, Mark would be great on this show
@ijuantm kind of surprised he hasnt done it, seems right up his alley but he's been busy
Matthew is so passionate and in touch with his emotions as a genuine human being, I guess that's what makes him such a great actor, you can just feel what he's feeling.
seeing matt fight tears HURT
