Underrated? It’s one of the most highly rated albums in popular music history! What are you talking about my friend! And to this day it is still revered among music critics pop culture media and rock and roll culture. Totally awesome to see David Johansen and Sami Yaffa n hear one of the all time Dolls classics Personality Crisis!!! Always dug the dolls since the 1970's, still great to see this version of the band!!! Excellent!!!
This song is quite a prophecy of the social media age. Which can be summed up, in toto, as a *Personality Crisis.* _”Wanna be someone who cow-ow-ounts...”_
This is why I fell in love with this band! The song is falling apart, and they don't give a fuck! So raw, so rank! Godmothers (I think they'll except this term) of punk rock!
You know Steve Conte and Sam Yaffa are playing in Michael Monroe Band? I saw their two gigs in Helsinki, Finland just this Saturday. Was so cool. Michael again rocked the stage with such energy it is amazing he isn´t 20 years old!!! I felt proud of all the guys, including guitarist Rich Jones and drummer Karl Rockfist. And for those who have ever been Hanoi Rocks fans, I can tell that Nasty Suicide made a lengthy, happy guest performance during the gigs. Awesomeness.
I was there for this taping, unfortunately it wasn't taped with the whole Craig Ferguson show. It was shot in another room during the daytime even on seperate day possibly. The whole room was just that stage. There was no desk or space for anything else. Great performance but shocked to see how TV illusion works. Got to hear 2 songs then they booted us out😅 Saw the edit in like 2 weeks later in time for Halloween. I was super stoked I got to see Sami Yaffa tho🖤
Interesting information that you shared. Perhaps it was taped separate due to conflicting schedules? Still, what other late show would have on the Dolls except the Ferguson show. Craig's the best for allowing real rock bands on his show.
Staten Island's own: David Johansen everybody. These guys all fuckin ruled. Raw rock n roll at its finest. So influential to the early days of punk too in NYC.
That wasn't Steve's job. He's his own guitarist and brought his own approach and added a lot to the songs making them popular again, especially with younger crowds. Same thing with Brian and Sami, they gave these songs their own kick in the ass ball of energy that was needed for The Dolls to continue and tour and make albums. Sadly It's over.
This band that I stumbled onto in 1984, 10 years after their heyday, sound electric in this 2008 performance, 34 years after their heyday, from the vantage of 2021, a million years after my heyday.
me, the first album I wore out!, got it hot off the press along with aerosmith and queen and kiss, gimme the NYD's. Fortunate to see them about 75ish in Dayton. Heck with that band line up I could have stood for lookin for ah kiss, vietnaese lady, Frankenstein and Jet Boy but David would have huffed & puffed and fell over. Who are the mystery girls. So sad about Syl, very nice guy.. he produced my bands album on Triple X records. (Motorcycle Boy) I played drums for Johnny Thunders back in '90 in LA which was a great experience working and hanging out with him. Here's video of the show although the video quality and audio isn't the best. Blondie drummer Clem Burke played the last few songs. ruclips.net/video/sPgL9U-dl3E/видео.html
This is the only video that will let me post. Today {27 July 2023} is the 50th anniversary of the release (notice I did not write "Drop") the single most influential record in "Rock" history still
50 years ago, these visionaries predicted today's Pronoun War and some other idiosyncrasies. They should have changed their acronym to NYPD, New York's Phenomenal Dolls. David Jo Hansen is a legendary frontman and for sure one of US's best comedians from last century on, in the short-listed category of ''Contagious'' (you know, alongside WC Fields, Groucho Marx, Jerry Lewis). Long live the living Dolls.
Jo's got big time pipes and his style is ever in increase. Love Dollz more than all those other groups basically. Love the 00's Dolls tunes too. Big time. Haters are deaf, dumb, and stupid
But without the Stones ,the Dolls wouldn't ever have been . Love the Dolls but the Stones kicked it on the Some girls LP . Many nice Punk tunes on that ❗
I saw this line up several times and while I love the Dolls, I just can't seem to find sympathy for Steve conte in place of Johnny Thunders. No one could make a guitar sqwak like Johnny
Yea, I just watched this clip, and saw the "new" Dolls only once. I like Sami a lot, and drummer is playing much like Jerry. But, like you, I am not down with Steve Conte. He's too accomplished.
That's my boyfriend David Johansen and Syl without Johnny Thunders whom I hung out with and also @ Baggies with bassist Kenny Aaronson. At least those awful girls like Cyrinda and Mara aren't there. Basha of Stanford U
Steve Conte, he has his own solo stuff, plays with a million people, tours Europe with some of the guys from Hanoi Rocks. I saw him twice with the dolls and once with Eric Burdon, fantastic player.
The New York Dolls debut album is an incredibly underrated album….It flat out rocks!!

Steve Conte can really work a guitar, One of the really great live performances by The Dolls.
The Dolls taught me its okay to not be okay sometimes

@Dave Wray Yep! Sad! RIP EVH as well!
Though I think only two original members are in this version of the band,
Looks like it's down to just David J now. So sad when another rock n' roll legend goes to that great gig in the sky. Rest in peace Sylvain Sylvain!

Funny how nobody can quite replicate the sounds Johnny Thunders used to squeeze out of his guitar..

Tate Thompson lol I’m sure plenty of young audiences were turned onto the Dolls via their handful of reunion lineups 😂
Johnny was unique!
Goes to show, it's the player, not the gear... it's in the hands & shoulders when it comes to Johnny
