Living in Florida can be quite challenging for the middle and low class . It became expensive to live in Florida. If you move from the north you might get a good deal on a house but let's not forget that Florida has one of the lowest wages in the job market combining that with the recent costs of living it's not easy. Also the main job industry is tourism while major cities in Florida have a more diverse job market which is helpful. Eventually the fast growth will stop within 10 years as cost of living keeps continuing to go up . Eventually Florida becomes California where only wealthy people and tourists can enjoy the beaches . It's definitely heading that way. The problem is you can't build everywhere in Florida, space is limited due to the vulnerable environment . There're some good documentaries on YT about the growths how it has an impact on Florida's ecosystem . Whole growths can be beneficial but at the same time it can be devastating to the environment. Sink holes and the demand for fresh water is increasing.

I’m south of Tampa along the bay and while it’s a cool city, it is completely unmanageable due to traffic. With WFH a lot of colleagues left Tampa and I generally avoid it and go to st Pete or Sarasota instead.
It’s not a problem with the city, the population grew way too fast for the infrastructure and it’s a nightmare getting around.

I'm one of the ones who is leaving. I realized Tampa was a place for me to experience a lot of things while I'm young and be in a fun place but I realized why when you get older you are more attracted to more affordable places because it stunts your growth unless you make a very high income to be spending most your money on expenses every month. I also miss nature. Hills, lush forests, and sometimes even seasons, although I don't want to go back to Indiana cold weather which is depressing. To me NC and TN seem to have a much better value proposition and lifestyle long term, weather is more neutral, so I am looking there instead. The problem is Tampa is trending towards having similar issues that Miami ran into. Add that into the insurance crisis, the summer heat, the crazy ppl/tourists and it makes sense to me why it's hard to settle down here for many.

I moved to Tarpon Springs in North Pinellas 10 years ago from the Chicago area. Now I'm in Trinity. Just in the time I've been here the traffic has gone crazy. Trying to go to I75 along 54 will take 45 minutes to an hour depending on the time of day. It used to be just during tourist / snow bird season, but now it seems like year round. Going north or south on 19 is a lot of traffic as well, again way more than used to be on it, and most of the year.

As someone who has lived in the Tampa area since 2004 this is my take. Tampa was smaller back then, but had more nightlife options. Yes you had Soho and Ybor like now, but back then you had more upscale places like Floyds in the Hard Rock or Blue Martini. Now you really dont have many options. The only upscale night place is in the Edition and its virtually impossible to get in.
St. Pete on the other hand was really dead back in 04. Then since 2015 their nightlife has eclipse Tampa. They have more high end places and lower cost places too.
Maybe what is occuring is Tamp is where people will work and live, while St. Pete will be the nightlife center. Still its odd that for all of Tampa's growth, their nightlife is less than 20 years ago.
I have no regrets moving here, great video!

    • @TampaFloridaLiving
      @TampaFloridaLiving  7 месяцев назад +2

Appreciate that insight. Id say thats pretty accurate. I have noticed tampa has more wine and dine type options lately which isnt a bad thing. I wouldnt have called floyds high end but i had a blast there back in the day! The casino is still fun but wish they did more with the center bar.
There are some rooftop bars popping up all over tampa. I just posted that on my instagram page.

Housing is expensive unless you have a roommate or savings to buy (homeowners insurance and HOA are very high). Pay is low unless you have a corporate job or own your own business. Just average food compared to say Chicago or LA. Traffic is like any bigger city in prime times. There is a ton to do. It's a beautiful area with water everywhere. You have sports teams to go experience which is great. It's way way better than south Florida. You have St. Pete, Clearwater, beaches, the ocean, water sports. If you like the outdoors, this is the place. It's pretty much a safe place, nothing to worry about. Public school systems absolutely stink. More indie bands come through here more than anywhere in Florida if that's your thing. The tourist thing get's annoying after awhile. Get a bike to get around, you'll have fun. Public transportation is meh. Neighborhoods are sprawled out. People drive like morons. Generally people are nice but you run into entitled jerks from Jersey and New York here and there. There's left and right politics. Summers are Brutally hot. June, July, AUGUST you can fry an egg on the sidewalk. The sun feels a million miles closer. But October through April is paradise. Hope this helps.

Grew up in Pinellas County and been living in St Pete for over a decade, I love all of the development, growth and all of the amazing things that are happening in the Tampa Bay area, honestly I don’t like when the locals complain (small minority) about newcomers, we are all in this together! Everybody is welcome! Just bring a good attitude and add value to this community, I understand some people may feel out priced when it comes to rents and home prices or complain about increase in traffic, instead of complaining lets try to work together to continue making this amazing area better for everyone, Tampa Bay area keeps growing and improving and with all the fantastic amenities and weather we have people will not stop coming anytime soon, so might as well collaborate as a community

That makes me think about either leaving or distancing myself from the city. It’s changed here big time in the last few decades. Some for the better, some not so much. I’m happy to see people come down here to enjoy the freedoms that we have and no nonsense laws in comparison to other states. I hope they don’t bring their leftist politics with them.

I've lived in FL 34 years. What a sad state of affairs that people are judged and welcomed or not based on their political views. I never remember this being an issue. It's divisive and undemocratic. Florida is in trouble if this mindset continues.

My life journey. San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Clearwater. Moved here right before the Covid hit. It cracks me up when people complain about traffic on I-4 or 275. Lol.
There is nothing like a 24-lane wide freeway ( I-10) moving 5 MPH at 3 AM.
Pinellas people complaining about traffic on 19 crack me up. HAHAHAHAHA.
Area wide here's what I hate.
Only 1 restaurant has decent Mexican food.
    Zero BBQ worth eating.
I had to buy two offset smokers to eat decent food.
Car and house insurance is a joke at these prices.

It's not about, has it changed my version on Florida it just that with more people it's starting to get over crowded and with that we don't get to enjoy certain things that we once did but not only that prices are going up and people's driving is getting worst as well as some of those people are bring there BS with them. Don't get me wrong, I love Florida. I just don't like the number of people moving here now. If we were a much bigger state like Texas or Alaska, then it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but we're not, and we're mostly swamp and not a lot of build ground to build on.

New Yorkers brought culture, food, and personality to the Tampa area. The most dry people in the country are from SWFL. Before NYers moving here you were eating Papa John’s and Dominoes. Ow you have some of the best pizzerias in the country in the area.

Tampa is not organically growing. Waterfront views are great until you eventually get bored from staring out of a window. Even if its fLoOr To cIeLiEnG. We don't have much of a playground with the exception of a few steakhouses, national sports leagues, and interesting strip clubs. Downtown can never bring in steady nightlife. Hyde Park had potential until the village became tacky as fuck after 2020. SoHo is still only college bars. Ybor is hit or miss, literally. North Tampa is filled with predominantly franchises. I'm all for trying to make this place one of the best cities, but there is an incredibly large disproportionate rate of building with respect to residential and new commercial real estate for night venues/new restaurants. We still don't even have a gay side of town (2 gay bars in Ybor does not count). Also when it rains now, I'm driving through the shallow section of the Adventure Island's wave pool. Lastly, anyone moving over to Marina Point...as you're reading this there goes up another complex!
