I remember that! I had just gotten home after seeing neverending story at the cinema with my pals and then me and fam gathered round to watch solid gold. Soldier boy was always my favourite
I loved that show when I was a kid. Mu dad use to go to work at that time of night to work at the Museum and we got to stay up as soon as mom locked the door after he left. What a great time to grow up. I will not trade it for NOW. Forgetaboutit! My ERA was the best to grow up in!
Perhaps easier for whom and at what cost? The rise of useless televangelism and the ignoring of bigotry, rape, child molestation, and sex trafficking? This clearly was not and easier time for black and brown people, women, children, and poor people.
@@LuvsTruth One of the most popular dancers on the show died of AIDS. There was a lot of drug addiction and several of the dancers were suicidal. People who were kids then have a rosy memory of what it was like.
Miss this show, gotta love the eighties, such a simple time. I was in love with the male dancer Tony Fields on this show. Never missed an episode, just had to see him dance. I might have been young, but I liked what I saw.
This is so funny to watch now. I remember throwing a fit if I missed it. When I was little I wanted to be a solid gold dancer! HA! Thanks for sharing this!
@TheBobbiemac - actually there were 8 seasons. The series premiered in Sept. 1980 and ended in Aug. 1988. Season 7 was known as SOLID GOLD '87 and the 8th season was SOLID GOLD IN CONCERT.
Does anybody know who choreographed the dance routines? So funny, looking back now, it didn’t seem like dancing, more almost like an aerobics class or a gymnastics class. Gosh, the 80s truly were something else, lol…
Your opinion is just that, your opinion. But keep in mind at one time these dancers were the cream of the crop and some of the most famous dancers in the world. Not everyone's taste is the same. Thanks for commenting.
Technical expectations have changed too, as dancers have learned more and more ways to push their bodies ever further There's some film footage of the iconic Ballets Russes out there and people were so disappointed by it. I'm sure if we had a time. machine and saw Nijinksy's famous leap it would look like no biggie compared with dancers who came after him. Doesn't mean it's no longer any good.
Actually I think I was a matter of maturing, both for the the show & the dancers, the show was new and really figuring which direction it was going to go, and several of the dancers were very young & maturing in their own styles individually. Case in point, Pam, look at how she grew, starting out a cute, perky dancer that bloomed into a beautifully elegant dancer that was still energetic.
actually glad they muted that Christopher Cross shite.. Ive a long list of their shite artist of theirs of today they can mute as well.. thanks for posting this clip , much appreciated..
Why are two songs blocked out?? The record company should pray that anyone would want to listen to Leo Sawyer or Christopher Cross. Maybe than can get a few paid downloads.
Even if the level of dancing has grown today, I don't find the choreographies so bad to call them awful. They are still entertaining to watch, as today we don't have these kinds of shows today
@JZOINKL - Did you bother to READ the description? It's because WARNER MUSIC GROUP (and now other like SONY MUSIC) mute videos that have their music in them if you didn't pay them for the rights to use their property.
"heaven forbid we hear 6 seconds of christopher cross," I know right?? As long as they're not muting my Air Supply, I think I can cope with this though, LOL.
8 seasons isnt a failure. It was cheesey, but so was the time period. Breaking Bad, one of, if not THE most successful show of all time had 6 seasons. I think Solid Gold dominating our tvs for nearly a decade would be considered a success rather than a failure.
My sister and I idolized the Solid Gold Dancers! It was our career goals.
This was my favorite dance-musical program of the '80s!
Me to.Thought the choreography was Magic and the Music was brilliant.
Anyone else remember when Soldier Boy was on Solid Gold singing Blondie’s Rapture? That after party was WILD!!

Me too! I would dance around in my leg warmers pretending I was one of the dancers.
this so needs to be digitally remastered. I think some Gen X-ers would love this. We did watch this show religiously, along with playing Atari. :)
this was a great time, life was so much easier
+gary wiley . Absolutely! I get goose bumps watching these shows again ...
Word! Golden days for sure 😄

When I was little I wanted to be a Solid Gold Dancer 💃
ME TOO, girl!! I still do! lol
I did as well!! They were awesome!!!
All I wanted from age 5-10. I broke my canopy bed trying to swing on it 😂😂
Me too!!!!
So did my mom lol
Wow classic songs I grew up on and the show brings back memories

So glad these shows made it to 3 limited television channels in Australia.
I agree that Pam in the early days was so young and pretty then, as she matured, she became simply beautiful.
This is so funny to watch now. I remember throwing a fit if I missed it. When I was little I wanted to be a solid gold dancer! HA! Thanks for sharing this!
This....and American Bandstand.
I’m here because of The Boys lmao
This is still some pretty good music regardless

I had an Excellent Childhood ❤️
GOD is so good 😊
I just learned about this tonight while watching Pose on Netflix. I so would love to be a solid gold dancer like Right Now
was a great show

Thank you for taking the time to make this and post it! Wow!

I wanted to be a Solid Gold Dancer too when I was young!
"Doomed to fail" if you consider 8 seasons failure then you must one hard to please person.
Digitally remastering would be EXCELLENT!
Back when women rocked a BADASS perm! Haha
I feel so old.
And to think some of the music was boring but the solid gold dancers made it sexy and fun
It was hilarious when they had their Christmas specials! The dancers doing sexy routines to Silent Night and O Holy Night

Back when dancing was actual dancing and not just rolling around on the floor and gymnastics!! I wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer soooo badly!!
No problem, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting.
Soldier Boy! Fab fye Freddy told me everybody's fly
Thanks and ufortunately none of us know whether it will come out on DVD.
Why are two songs blocked out?? The record company should pray that anyone would want to listen to Leo Sawyer or Christopher Cross. Maybe than can get a few paid downloads.
i feel bad for you if you weren't alive in the 80's.
Not a problem. As I get them I'll work in posting them!
Even if the level of dancing has grown today, I don't find the choreographies so bad to call them awful. They are still entertaining to watch, as today we don't have these kinds of shows today
It's great!
Pretty trippy when you have vivid flashback like that, huh??
You are so right!
💃🏼🕺🏾🔥💯
Am I the only one who almost peed my pants laughing at #7 Donna Summer! My stomach hurts
They really did their part to make spandex popular!
how many seasons 6? Bring this show back! If dancers can dance to rap!
I am trying to get as complete a collection as possible, but I am nowhere close. ;-)
I was watching from day1. Stay tuned. More will be coming!
I never tire of the Solid Gold dancers. At 4:18, this is the main reason I watched the show. Move those hips ladies!!
@JZOINKL - Did you bother to READ the description? It's because WARNER MUSIC GROUP (and now other like SONY MUSIC) mute videos that have their music in them if you didn't pay them for the rights to use their property.
A HOT buttered MESS!!! :-)
Only these guys could get away with lycra or was it spandex! I have always and still do want a pair but I wont ever look like them! LOL
I love... 💓 💓 💓
how many seasons 6? Bring this show make. If dancers can dance to rap!
Surreal
and just wondering if that particular dance outfit material is available anymore
were the dancers not credited in the closing credits or did i missed it?
Did they dance the full song for each song?
Not for the countdown. They did do 1 to 2 full song dances with the artist.
no just about two minutes
1:53 - 1:59 is the pinnacle of choreography
Daniel Toma lol
In a way all they did was combine this concept with music videos and MTV was born.
heaven forbid we hear 6 seconds of christopher cross,
"heaven forbid we hear 6 seconds of christopher cross,"
I know right?? As long as they're not muting my Air Supply, I think I can cope with this though, LOL.
@lbCharmed1 It's ironic that Sony and WMG are throwing away all this free advertising.
0:37 sampled by Sean p diddy combs
@lbCharmed1 Thanks.
We used tune into the show and then mute the sound and listen to real music, they were great to watch, the music really sucked though.
back in the days when everyone had hair on their junk
dam... LMFAO!!!
Christopher Cross? Really? why is the sound cut out of this clip? Does anybody like that shit.
The male dancers were strangely feminine.
The show was doom to fail, the producers forgot the other venues of music that where prevalent on the 80's. The male dancers where daggers.
And hence, MTV was born!!!

That was a hot mess!!!
