I own both of these guns and like them both. That said my complaint on the XD subcompact is that the grip length and height of the bore axis makes it almost exactly the same height as my compact sized Glock 19. Additionally the weight is Mir G19 than G26. The only "benefit" is the G26 sized short barrel if you want to call it that. As you said in your video a longer barrel doesn't affect concealability, but grip length does. Thus this gun in its subcompact format is more snub nose G19 than comparable to the G26. It has a subcompact length with a compact height. Thus the XD in my opinion, while a good gun in general fails the subcompact comparison with the G26 because it's height belongs in the compact arena. Great discussion and video...keep them coming.
My XD Subcompact came with a 13 round flush fit magazine and the XD’s standard three dot sights are metal compared to the 26’s polymer sights. With a current MSRP of $399, the XD is a lot of gun for under $400.
There's a nub on the ejector on Glocks that's flush with the slide when the chamber's empty, and that sticks out when the chamber's full. I like the Chevy/Ford analogy.
Good review. You need to review the gen4 vs the mod2. But its still Chevy vs Ford. Picked up the mod2 and I'm liking it. And it fits in the Ripz pack. Keep up the good work.
Great table top review/comparison Crocket. I had the XD9sc for a few years and it was my CCW, along with a Ruger LC9. I ended up (legally) transferring the XD9sc to my Dad because he wanted a 9mm CCW, along with a Kahr CW9. The reason I gave them to him is because I never had any issue with the XD (or the CW9) and knew that it would be 100% reliable for him. The second reason I gave my carry firearm to him was because I went up in caliber to .45 and .40 and got away from the XD trigger, which I didn't love. It was an accurate gun, a guy can become a trigger snob when you really start shooting other firearms. I like the Glock trigger, it works well for me, especially in a CCW role. So I have a Glock 27 to replace the XD, along with a G36 and G30sf, and I'm not having fun shooting the 27. It works flawlessly but I don't enjoy range time with it as much as I did with the XD. The G36 and G30 are awesome fun at the range it is just that the ergos on the 27, in .40 aren't comfortable for me, so I'm going to get a 9mm conversion barrel and magazines, get some range time shooting 9mm and I'll see if that changes the fun factor for me. I'll still carry in .40 and keep up the skill level. Long winded way of saying the XD9sc is an awesome firearm and I'm glad that my Dad is enjoying the Hell out of it.
In that case, I'll take the Springfield XD9. I shot the 4 inch version and it's excellent. I would love to try the Sub-compact. I like the G26 too (only shot 10 rounds) because I was surprisingly pretty accurate with it despite being kind of snappy. I was using extended magazines so I haven't shot the flush magazines yet.
@@nastymkfan with some trigger work the XD would be great. I mean it is great as far a reliability already but so would shoot it even better with a better trigger.
Good review. To calrify, the standard flush fit mad for the XD subcompact is 13rd. The 10rd would only be for places/states that require the 10rd limitation.
Not exactly true. In CA we get two 10 round magazines with the XD9sc and one of them is the longer magazine but limited to 10 rounds. In free states the 10 round magazines is much more friendly for CCW.
pinkiewerewolf It's true for STANDARD magazine capacity. Just because some states limit the capacity doesn't change the standard capacity. Yes, it is possible to get the magazines with 10rd. Just like it's possible to Get a P226 with 10rd mags.... that doesn't make 10rds the normal capacity though. They're still neutered.
Old video but still good info on these guns. He did not mention the XD's striker indicator best seen at 3:21. When the striker is fully cocked, the indicator is visible on the back plate, nice feature. The tactile loaded chamber indicator on the XD is to make the gun legal in those states requiring an external indicator. The grip safety, as he states is not an issue, it does not affect the feel of the grip. I have the XD Mod 2 Subcompacts in 40 S&W and 45ACP. These are really good shooters but I don't like their top heavy, bulky feel. Both are in my carry rotation but I'm very close to acquiring a Glock 27 Gen5 to be a replacement to my 40S&W XD as a carry gun. I can also convert the G27 into a high capacity 9mm (15+1) EDC. Plus, Glock's do not have that insidious accessory rail. No thanks. (I did replace the XD's trigger with a Powder River trigger. These triggers gave me a 3.5 pound pull. Yes, a very light pull but also helps in accuracy, less wall jerk.)
I'm a huge glock fan and I totally enjoy owning my springfield xd so this video was something akin to internet gravity pulling at me. My personal opinion is if someone tells me they don't like glock something is probably wrong with their bean and I'm keeping a hand near my blade. Btw I don't mind the so-called xd safety features either, they're muscle memory friendly.
XD Sub was my first gun in 2013. Idea was I wouldn't/couldn't afford multiple guns so goal was have an all in one handgun. I didn't have the luxury of having another gun owner let me try out a variety of guns so I had to figure out what I could from youtube and the gun counter. As a new shooter the safety features on the XD did help me build confidence in having a gun around. I did prefer the ergos of the XD over the glock in a non-shooting environment. Now having shot both the g26 and the XD I found the XD more challenging to shoot; it was probably a tougher gun to master as a new shooter. Also as I shot the XD the trigger improved quite a bit but new it had some sponge and grit to it. When it finally came to getting my permit and carrying I found the XD uncomfortable and it printed considerably. I was able to borrow a glock 26 at this point and found it carried much nicer. I did also have some experiences with the XD training with drawing it from the holster and I would occasionally not engage the grip safety. In the end I traded in for a glock 26 and I can't envision a situation where I would get rid of it.
I guess I'm one of those folks with the ergonomics issues. Glocks, especially the short grip ones, hurt my hands a lot because of the weird grip angle. They are the only handgun I've fired that does this. They also don't aim naturally for me, but that might be because I learned on 1911's so the XD's identical grip angle matches my muscle memory.
fuck block. 2X4 grip, mag ejector blows, sights blow, trigger, looks, everything about it is cheap and sucky. Like an 80s honda that keeps getting pumped out each year and never updated.. its 2021 almost 22 and the 90s glocks where better than what they sell now! Shit is pure trash. For less money you can get better and for like $100 to $200 more get much much much better!
Not an XD guy at all, but very appealing grip size to me. Looks to split the difference between the glock subcompacts and glock compacts which seems like a sweat spot for a conceal piece. And the flush capacity speaks to that as well falling right between (for 9mm 13 vs 10 and 15). Interesting, but still choose glock.
what's the grip angle on XD? probably 1911 style. I love 1911s.. they feel right in my hand.. Glocks angle is over done.. but if you started on that style grip.. it'll feel more natural.. see where I'm going here?
Absolutely. I shoot both and like both. Sometimes I'll shoot one longer than the other and I get used to that particular angle. Personally I don't think one angle is better than the other. Mainly what the person prefers...or is used to.
Nice comparison, glad i don't have to choose since i own both(G26).Only minor complaint is the weight on the XD.26 + ounces can be a bit much carrying it with some cargo shorts.Especially after i switch from carrying my Shield.Any plans on trading your XD in for the Mod 2? I thought about it, but decided against it since my XD has over 650 rounds with no issues whatsoever.
German manufacturer Heckler & Koch made the first polymer pistol called the Volkspistole (VP/70) in 1970. Designers developed the GLOCK more than a decade later. Its design became the first commercially successful polymer-framed handgun on the market.
The grip safety system is very smart and I dont see why anyone would complain (the system is turned off everytime, before you put your finger on the trigger) what's the problem?.
I've personally seen the grip safety cause an issue with other people. My wife specifically as she has smaller hands. Sometimes she can't actuate on certain guns equating to no bang bang on the gun.
I tend to stick with Glock. I own a 19 and 30s. I have limited experience with the XD but it seems like I remember liking it. Shot a Gen 4 26 the other day and that seemed to be a good fit also. Tough to go wrong with either one. Thanks for the vid.

Both are highly reliable pistols. Just today my wife selected the Xd over the Glock based on three things. The trigger felt uncomfortable on the Glock. The Glock grip felt thicker although it seemed to be the same size. The Xd recoil felt lighter to both of us. This is totally subjective. It's easy to see others could make the opposite decision.
I think that is a lot of the decision making process though. What feels good to you, ie the end user. People tend to get too wrapped up over stuff. In some cases yes there is a big difference, but in this case I think it's up to the end user and what they prefer. Have fun shooting.
total novice Texan, here. When my college buddies visit from outta state, I take them to the gun range and we rent 3 guns each (total of 6) for an hour and half. I would say, my most accurate shooting always came from a Springfield. I WANTED to say Sig or Glock, just because i think they sound cooler, but for some reason, as a person who only shoots about twice a year, the Springfields have been most comfortable and most accurate. And by accurate, I mean....not much and not really. I'm not that good. I plan on joining the concealed carry club soon, so I'm doing some research. Videos like these are really helpful. It makes me want to try this particular Glock, as well. With practice, it seems like any gun would be good in the hands of a long-time owner and enthusiast, so I'm not married to any one gun or brand. I plan on buy one, MAYBE two guns, and then keep them both for a long time. Although, I tried that with vintage cars and I got addicted....so who knows.
Haha, be careful of the addiction part...it can get you. I think you're going about it the right way. Get your hands on a bunch of them, see what you shoot best, then practice. Practice as much as you can. Make sure you're using good fundamentals (lots of good info out there on that), and with that practice you'll see groups tighten up. Most of all, have fun doing it.
@@Cr0cket20 hey man, thanks for the reply. The firearm community has been nothing but friendly, helpful, and safe in all the times i've dipped my toe in the water.
Glock fits me better. My xd9sc does not because my pinky is caught in the middle. It's quite annoying. I also prefer glock for simplicity and aftermarket support.
Had a Glock 26 was very happy with it 3000 plus rounds no problems. Once a bought the Shield, I sold the Glock 26 , just to replace it with a Glock 19 . No regrets.
Weird, even with a much longer grip the XD still comes with a 10 round flush mag. The XD is a much bigger gun.. grip is longer, Gun is taller, longer heavier. The Glock 26/27 conceals better because it’s smaller. It’s lighter. Holds 10 rounds of 9mm stock, 13 with magpul mags.
A Glock fan boy well practiced in Glock's take-down will say they're good, personally the XD9 is better; I owned a Glock and constantly fumbled with it. , NO ONE SEEMS TO mention XD9 sub has ambidextrous mag release, standard, no silly swapping around during a gun fight. This could save your life. LOL
Glocks arnt bad just they sell for more than what you get with it. I dont like the fact I have to change the barrel the sights, grip and the trigger assembly. And i just spent a hundred dollars more when i can save that 100 and get more things with the xd.
Glock > XD. Here is why: if you happen to get into a fight and are grappling with someone. If you're to the point where it is necessary to pull your gun and you have an XD. There is a chance you may not be able to discharge your weapon because you cannot engage the grip safety. The assailant may be trying to hold off your gun and you can only get a partial grip on said gun. The XD does you no good if you cannot engage the lame grip safety. The barrel may be pointed right into the dudes stomach while he is laying on top of you; however, you may only have a couple fingers on the gun and one on the trigger. This is why the XD is a poor self defense option and why you do not see any police or self defense instructors carry them.
Ax Greenious Not trying to be an ass, but do you know of any documented cases where this has happened? Keep hearing this and while there is some part of me that agrees, I don't have any factual examples to reference. That said, going with the Glock in this case would certainly remove all doubt.
1911 as a grip safety. Yet they've been trusted for years. You can push the XD up against the body and pull the trigger if you push a Glock up against the body more than likely to come out of battery.
Springfield Armory XD 9mm I would definitely recommend to anyone who is a first time gun owner because of the safety devices that comes with the weapon Is a plus.. grip safety ,protruding indicator, trigger safety XD9 compact Springfield Armory will be my next weapon.... not a Glock
Triggers should always be covered, even minimalist snap on trigger guard covers do the job for about $15. A grip safety helps while holstering, in case a holster obstruction gets in the trigger guard or poorly designed or wrong model trigger snap in models inexplicably depress the trigger. Nowadays I think there's something to be said for longer, heavier trigger pulls at least first shot. The LEM trigger in HK and typical decocker are safer but harder to shoot well. I'd never go back to a revolver though.
Oh, come on now! How can you say half of us would say Chevy and half will say Ford? This is the internet! Even though you asked a distinctly qualified question, with the parameters being Chevy against Ford, the internet does not know how to constrain itself to boundaries! The first comments that will come in will be along the lines of "They both suck! Dodge rulez!" Then it will devolve into a tedious comment thread which will involve Japanese automobile manufacturers, European manufacturers, International Harvester, politics, religion and your mom.
my glock 17 jammed on round 27 my xd is at 600+ like 10 different types of ammo no issues. Glock feels cheap AF too.. Its like a step up from highpoint for me. Id rather HK Sig CZ S&W Springfield Beretta, almost anything but a block. I mean glock, not really. Theres a reason glock fanboys Have to and thing they are choosing to replace every fucking part of the gun. Mag ejector blows, trigger is just ok, spring is trash, slide is boring, grip is the worst I have ever felt, sights are trash, shoulda went 3 dot that half a square just turns into a fat glob of white down range when aiming, they are super prone to jamming, youtube it, there's 100s of videos of glock fails, then look up xd fails. I cant find any.. Looks ugly, I can go on all day on how shitty Block is!
There is no comparison. When you own a Glock, any Glock you have to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade to make it reliable. Plus, you see a shit load of videos dedicated to "Glock problems" and how to solve them. Glocks suck!
+Mark Ridgway My Glock gen 2 and gen 3 have been completely 100% reliable without any upgrades. To say "any" glock one owns will have problems is a sweeping generalization. From the mindset of any gun needs to be assured that it is reliable (glock or not) I would agree with.
I prefer the XD because of the grip safety, if i carry appendix i don't want to accidentally shoot my PP off while re-holstering.
Xd is about 200 cheaper That's a good holster and light so xd wins hands down.
The 45 ain't fuck that its unacuraty asf
I own both of these guns and like them both. That said my complaint on the XD subcompact is that the grip length and height of the bore axis makes it almost exactly the same height as my compact sized Glock 19. @@Cr0cket20 hey man, thanks for the reply. The firearm community has been nothing but friendly, helpful, and safe in all the times i've dipped my toe in the water.
I believe the XD shares an 18 degree "natural pointing" grip angle with the Colt 1911 45, a possible factor.
Glock fits me better. My xd9sc does not because my pinky is caught in the middle. It's quite annoying.
I also prefer glock for simplicity and aftermarket support.
Glock and Chevy
thank you!
Had a Glock 26 was very happy with it 3000 plus rounds no problems.
Once a bought the Shield, I sold the Glock 26 , just to replace it with a Glock 19 .
No regrets.
Did you think about keeping the 26, it takes the 19 and 17 mags.
You forgot to mention glock's 30-round funstick.
Nowadays the xd full-size and the compact are easy to have for 300
Yeah, I hide a big barrel down there too.
Glock, I also have both.
It's not hard to make it where the grip safety is permanently depressed
Ford is better as far as the guns go I take either one
Honest straight forward yet that XD comes in 40 and that is the real deal! SA all the way
I want a Glock 43
But my Ford drag truck is Chevy powerd!!😋 XD mod2 for me
And I always carry with the 16+1
So much more grip and comfortable
My Glock 26 carries 13 rounds with non-extended mag.
Sales numbers say Ford.😁
Does that include fleet vehicles ; )
Put Glock 19 mag in Glock 26, you have 16 rds & much lighter & smaller than XD sub compact.
Xd can take full size mags alsom
The XD is my choice! I’m not a fan of Glock, they just look too ugly to me.
10 & 10 vs 13 & 16. That's a 9 round difference.
Sure, but that's what you get from the factory on both.
El Guapo lol
There are lots of people with holes in their ass that might disagree on the grip safety.
I hope they have holes in their ass...
+Cr0cket20 Lol!
Two holes...well, that's a problem.
17 in the pipe my friend, not 27
Weird, even with a much longer grip the XD still comes with a 10 round flush
mag.
The XD is a much bigger gun.. grip is longer, Gun is taller, longer heavier.
The Glock 26/27 conceals better because it’s smaller. It’s lighter. Holds 10 rounds of 9mm stock, 13 with magpul mags.
13rnds flush mags on the XD.
LOL
You must have been in a lot of gun fights and have vast knowledge to draw from.
Dodge and Kimber!!🤣🤣😂😂
Ah yes. One of the internet brand specific if you don't shoot/drive what I do it's not cool. I remember that mentality back in high school.
Chevy!
Glocks arnt bad just they sell for more than what you get with it. I dont like the fact I have to change the barrel the sights, grip and the trigger assembly. And i just spent a hundred dollars more when i can save that 100 and get more things with the xd.
glock 26 will take the 33rnd mag as well....just saying
that guy I conceal that daily. Just have to come up with interesting stories as to what is sticking out the back of mine shirt...just saying.
***** Zimmerman. Nuff said.
1911 as a grip safety. Yet they've been trusted for years. You can push the XD up against the body and pull the trigger if you push a Glock up against the body more than likely to come out of battery.
This statement is so laughable if you don't have enough strength to engage the grip safety there's no way you can pull the trigger on any gun
Brandon Nesby Not what they are talking about
Those baby Glocks are a joke as far as the actual handle area....(just my opinion)
Ford : )
unless it's the new Colorado, lol
Springfield Armory XD 9mm
I would definitely recommend to anyone who is a first time gun owner because of the safety devices that comes with the weapon
Is a plus.. grip safety ,protruding indicator, trigger safety XD9 compact Springfield Armory will be my next weapon.... not a Glock
Springfield compact XD9 9mm best weapon ever I love Springfield Armory Awesome!
Chevy its not even close😂
Who the heck wants to put a flash light on a conceal gun SMH
I've run into several.
Me.
Jose Pagan its very common, and a good idea
Jose Pagan.. I've got one..I think he's being sarcastic.. because many do use tactical attachments
lol I bought a used XD that came with a crimson trace flashlight/laser sight
XD win for ambidextrous
Chevy duh lol 😂
Rather have a Chevy than Found On Road Dead or Fix Or Repair Daily.
Nissan and Taurus #trollingfortriggeredfanboys
Hi point is better 😂
That is actually my daily EDC. It's got the $100 bill coating on it to make it really stand out.
They all suck. Arctic Cat snowmobiles FTW!
Chris Moore Oh man you hit the nail on the head : )
my glock 17 jammed on round 27 my xd is at 600+ like 10 different types of ammo no issues.
So what you're saying is you kinda sorta maybe might dislike glock?
There is no comparison. When you own a Glock, any Glock you have to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade to make it reliable. Plus, you see a shit load of videos dedicated to "Glock problems" and how to solve them. Glocks suck!
+Mark Ridgway My Glock gen 2 and gen 3 have been completely 100% reliable without any upgrades. To say "any" glock one owns will have problems is a sweeping generalization. From the mindset of any gun needs to be assured that it is reliable (glock or not) I would agree with.
Baaaaaahahaha! 😂🙌😅
***** Agreed, I actually burst out laughing! lol
