  • Catholic Churches are meant for the beautiful music! Advent is important because we are preparing along with the Blessed Virgin Mary for the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This ancient Gregorian chant is a Traditional Advent Hymn that is sung every Advent, especially in the "Traditional Latin Mass” (also known as the TLM or the Extraordinary form of the single Roman Rite).
Rorate Caeli, sung by the Schola Cantorum Gloriae Dei - a Catholic Choir of the Latin Mass Society of Las Vegas. Learn more about where to find the Latin Mass In Las Vegas here: bit.ly/ScholaCa...

    Roráte caéli désuper,
    et núbes plúant jústum.
    Ne irascáris Dómine,
    ne ultra memíneris iniquitátis:
ecce cívitas Sáncti fácta est desérta:
Síon desérta fácta est, Jerúsalem desoláta est:
dómus sanctificatiónis túæ et glóriæ túæ,
    ubi laudavérunt te pátres nóstri.
Peccávimus, et fácti súmus tamquam immúndus nos,
    et cecídimus quasi fólium univérsi:
et iniquitátes nóstræ quasi véntus abstulérunt nos:
    abscondísti faciem túam a nóbis,
et allisísti nos in mánu iniquitátis nóstræ.
    Víde Dómine afflictiónem pópuli túi,
    et mítte quem missúrus es:
    emítte Agnum dominatórem térræ,
de Pétra desérti ad móntem fíliæ Síon:
ut áuferat ípse júgum captivitátis nóstræ.
    Consolámini, consolámini, pópule méus:
    cito véniet sálus túa:
    quare mæróre consúmeris,
    quia innovávit te dólor?
    Salvábo te, nóli timére,
égo enim sum Dóminus Déus túus,
    Sánctus Israël, Redémptor túus.

    Wow, that´s one blended choir!
One remark about the rendering of the Latin with square notation: the last syllables of the frases, which are always weak, do not need to be held so strongly and for so long. Perhaps they are being misled by the Solesmes rythmic markings and/or listening to French choirs (that simply cannot pronounce ecclesiastical Latin properly) as reference. The punctum mora at the end of frases is just a redundant mark signalling the end of the frase (inside melismas it makes sense to read it as a relatively longer note - or less shorter than the adjacent ones). But when the duration of the last syllabe is longer than the strong syllable of the word, and has the same intensity, it´s nearly impossible to identify another sillable as the strong one. "Ecce cívitas sancti, facta est desérta", in the first verse (0:42), is an extreme example of this distortion that clouds the understanding of the text. The result is more like: "Ecce cívitas sanctííí, facta est desertááá". Specially in purely syllabic chant, the rhythm of the text must be applyed to the square notes. Listening to a lot of Italian speech can really help singers to internalize what ecclesiastical Latin should sound like. A more musical and less rethorhic approach to this issue would be to remember the pocket rule to always make a decrescendo at the end of chant frases. As a bonus, it will disguise the pitch falls of singers with less diaphragmatic support, further increasing the choir's tone quality.

I for one think that it is very integer and I disagree with your comment.
It is a pleed, and therefor those longer ends are an expression of that feeling.🕊

Beautiful singing! Note however, that this is not Gregorian (i.e. medieval) chant, but from the 17th cntury and thus much later. Although the composition tries to mimic Gregian chant, it heavily uses madrigalesque word painting (highest note on "caeli", descending scale at "desuper" and "pluant", melodic fall on "caecdiumus", sigh on "dolor", etc.). While chant purists might disdain this, I consider it an excellent and outstanding early example of "period composing", i.e. composing in imitation of an older syle.

Crusade Prayer (33) Seal of the Living God
O my God, my loving Father, I accept with love and gratitude Your
    Divine Seal of Protection.
Your Divinity encompasses my body and soul for eternity.
I bow in humble thanksgiving and offer my deep love and loyalty to
    You, my beloved Father.
I beg You to protect me and my loved ones with this special Seal and I
pledge my life to Your service forever and ever.
I love You, dear Father. I console You in these times, dear Father.
I offer You the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved
Son in atonement for the sins of the world and for the Salvation of all
    Your children.
    Amen.
The Seal of the Living God was given to us in the revelations of Maria Divine Mercy. In the Message of February 20th, 2012 Jesus says about it in these words: „(…) For I now bequeath the Seal of My Love and Protection. With this you will escape the notice of those who will cause hardship in your countries.
My Seal is My Promise of Salvation. My Power will surge through you with this Seal and no harm will come to you.
This is a miracle, children, and only those who bow before Me, their Lord and Creator of all things, as little children with love in their hearts for Me, can be blessed with this Divine Gift.” The Seal of the Living God is a special Grace from God given for the present time leading up to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
It was foretold in the last part of the Holy Bible - in the Book of Revelation of Saint John (Rev 7 and Rev 9,4). The Seal can have different graphical finishes (sometimes minimal or even not any), the text can be formatted in various ways (lower case or upper case).
