Ive had the killer Cali on JCM 800 as well for many years and it’s still to this day the best modded Marshall tone I’ve ever had or heard. Notes and harmonics just fly off the fretboard, despite being in good company with my Friedmans.
Definitely dig the Killer Kali++ more, but they're both killer, love Dan's work! Is the "feel" knob on the KK++ basically a negative feedback control (similar to the response knob/switch on Friedmans)? Great comparison, and impressive amp collection dude!
Thanks Rocco! The "Feel" knob on the KK has such a huge impact on the tone. I really like the ability to tighten up the low end with one control right on the front like that. Note that when you lower the Feel, the gain also lowers slightly, so you'll notice I tend to bring the two preamp gains up accordingly. Re: Collection - Thanks! If there's a video on another amp you'd like to see, just let me know.
IMHO the 59 sounds like crap. It needs shielding for noise. It sounds like vibrating tin when a chord is hit followed by a hiss that fogs it. There is also no chug those mutes should be hitting you in the chest. No bottom end. The 800 has a better tone but still no chug. You should ask for your money back from whoever did the mods. But thanks for showing it off.
Dumb question…..do either or both of them have a clean channel ? If not, does one clean up better than the other with the guitar volume ? Both are killer for sure….🤘🏼
Neither of these has the clean channel mod. I have a custom KK Dan is making me where I requested he add a simple clean. The KK cleans up with your volume knob much better than the RM. This makes logical sense: the KK is 3-4 gain stages (3 normally, 4 with Violence engaged) while the RM is 5(!) gain stages.
Stupid question but does it matter which amp you do which mod on? Or does he switch out basically the entire board so if you do Kali++ on JCM800 vs 1959, it doesn't matter? Same with Rockmonster?
Dan told me that the donor amp has a significant impact on the mod. so I believe he still uses the original PCBs in the amp. Pretty sure none of Dan's mods sound EXACTLY the same amp-to-amp.
@@eldoradoguitars6456 pretty awesome! So many choices . I’m big on Hermansson and wizard but definitely also want a Friedman in my collection. Great videos . I asked that because you gave a great selection of Marshall and modded Marshalls . Very cool

Theres no chug because its not your typical 5150, its still a Marshall.
I knew that at some point you’ll play Tool

What’s the price to have theses thing shipped both ways with mods
For US buyers, Dan finds a Marshall in the UK, mods it, then ships it to you.
