I looked away from my book for a second while the audio kept playing and i was shook because i thought Torvald had said "No fights b*tches please" at 2:09:27 💀
This play was excellent! I really enjoyed it. I like how this audiobook had the different voices for all the different characters. I had a great time listening to this play.
A distinct thread of deceit runs through the character of Nora. At first glance it seems sincere in saving the health of her husband but she lies without abandonment while her husband calls her a song bird or squirrel. There must be a wide age difference to them and it keeps her so childlike. Wonderful bit of storytelling and it’s great to have it well read and in keeping with the customs and dialogue of that era.
Nora: *Borrows money without her husband's knowledge, commits fraud, and almost completely destroys their livelihood* Torvald: *Gets mad* Nora: You don't love me I'm leaving you.
Now that I've listened to the whole play, I stand with Nora. Torvald treated her like a play thing. He isn't mad about the fraud b/c it was wrong, he's worried about his reputation. Once the fraud is absolved, he's all "I love you". Nora grew a whole lot in those three days.
Yeah fr idk why they're so obsessed with old ass books with mediocre story lines. It would be so nice to read something written in the 21st century every once in a while so that we could talk about the actual current state of these issues instead of some old dudes take on those issues from like 150 years ago
@@will-jh7yi Yeah I get that, I just think that we should read current books when we are using them to talk about current issues. Like I think that something like shakespeare is well worth reading because his work is so incredibly influential (and it's just fun). I even think it's worth it to read the odyssey for this reason, even though I personally found it unengaging. But my teacher used this play to talk about women's role in society *today*, or they'll use To Kill a Mockingbird as the book we use to talk about racism (obviously that one's not by a man but it's got the same issue just with race). I feel like there's so much good modern literature but we just keep reading these crusty books that are less engaging AND less relevant then what we could be reading. this was entirely amazing! my first super long read of the script is well worth it! This is really awe-inspiring. the 3rd act really brought to light why the title has been chosen!
Why is everyone in this play so hypocritical? The husband gave her sweet words the whole time, then the moment he reads the letter he tells her to act according to a script. Her friend promised Nora to help her, yet immediately says no to “help” her knowing that it might destroy their family.
+Matthew Donnell good LUCK hahahahahaha its so funny because i also have to write about this shit! funny thing is i have NO CLUE, i rather write about Sophocles' Oedipus Rex rather than this
The only person I really hate in this story is the husband. What an awful marriage. She’s always having to tiptoe and please him all the time. Such a fake life.
A friend of mine took me to see the play A Doll's House: Part 2. I loved it. It was amazing! I had quite the emotional connection to 3 of the 4 characters. This was a nice reading of the first one so I was able to know what happened before hand!
Nora is such a coward to leave her kids and husband. But this is true that torvald should have thought about nora's well being before his own when he found out she forged her father's signature. But no, torvald was only worried about his reputation and how he would be ridiculed. But nora has no right to give him a speech when all she told were lies. Thought they were for good cause, she should have trusted her husband to understand and accept what she did. Her lack in doing this also makes her a coward
All of y’all ate! Loved all the voice actors❤ They all did such wonderful jobs! Anyone who finds this boring clearly didn’t get the story or perhaps just didn’t like it because they were forced to use it to complete their work for a grade. Nonetheless I loved every single voice actor❗️❗️
What a superb production. Top notch. Was it all done over the phone? Nobody has sounded more authentically posh Norwegian since Dick Van Dyke in Diagnosis: Murder.
It's because of her situation. She feels empty in life because everything was taken from her and she was in the dumps. that is why she was read that way
I just finished this book for my AP book report and essay. I can say, I thought it was really boring at first, but near the end or most of Act 3 really made it worthwhile. Both Nora and Torvald were in the wrong in my opinion. She went such lengths to commit fraud and then kept lying. Then Torvald treats her weirdly and cared about his reputation. Although, I’m kinda on Torvald’s side more because Nora actions really annoyed me. I really don’t like her character but I can understand some bits like her not wanting to be treated as a doll or being unhappy with her relationship. Either way, she kinda put herself in that situation. It was a sad ending, I felt somewhat bad for Torvald because he seemed like he would really change for her. Oh, and Dr. Rank was a cool character, I thought he liked Christine at first but nope it was Nora lmao. I also don’t know how to feel about Christine
LMAO Nope. Screw Torvald. He’s so condescending and rude! He was so ready to keep her from raising their children so they aren’t ruined by a criminal, and once their reputations are saved, he takes it all back? She should have let him die LMAO i hate him
What a wonderful play! Most women understand this just like that but a certain intelligence for many men and some women to digest this. Women treated and thought as helpless beautiful creatures not good enough to know the world and self is still very much a norm.

I am unable to give this play my full approval. I really like the beginning because it’s so realistic to this day! I can completely relate to the petit-bourgeoise vibe of the Helmer household. I can also empathize with issues like struggling to pay the bills. However, the plot is so unrealistic it’s hard to take it seriously. Yes, Thorvald’s a pompous jerk, but you know what? Nora’s a dingbat! Committing fraud is no way to solve a problem. Forging signatures on loan docs is bad news, especially if your hubby manages a bank. Never mind colluding with a snake like Krogstad. The fact that a woman is not allowed to merely take out a loan all on her own and has to resort to fraud just to protect her husbands fragile ego does even more Justice to the message
