  • This week the girls are back with another ~amateur research hour~ WOOO! We did a little digging on some things we've never understood but never bothered to look up... until now. From hybrid fruits to the history of money to sneeze DNA, I think it's safe to say we ended this episode a little smarter than we started it... which isn't saying much.

Amateur research hour!! Love the name and the research - it’s really fun to learn more about things that fascinate us. All of these were really cool to hear about, like I knew that Coraline was stop motion but taking TWICE as many photos for 3D?!? Never knew that 😮 nor did I know sweet corn was a hybrid lol. And TOTALLY agree about school teachings stuff, sometimes it’s so surface level and you’re left with more questions than answers, but super cool to also hear you talk about the beginnings of trading and credit AND how language came to be. The timeline of that is wild... ALSO looking at lights to sneeze definitely helps, the tickle sensation makes a lot of sense. So so cool, thank you both for making me feel smarter today😂 definitely keep doing these episodes!
I’ll share a fun fact that I just learned recently!! You know how growing up you learn to NEVER put metal in a microwave because it’ll explode or catch fire? Well have you ever realized that there are screws in the microwave and that actually the whole inside is metal?!?? I saw a video of someone explaining this and I was SHOCKED like omggg of course there’s screws in microwaves, that makes sense because obviously it needs to be held together somehow, but the metal being there goes against everything I learned NOT to do with microwaves lol. So basically all the metal from inside the microwave reflects all the waves, but what you don’t want is additional metal in there to mess with the waves and accidentally catch something on fire. Idk if this is shocking to anyone else, but it was a fun fact to learn!

Found the video I was referring to!! I couldn't remember if I saw it on IG or here, but it's a RUclips short from Hank Green explaining microwaves and metal: ruclips.net/user/shorts7xO4gsZkfgo?si=li-pGnReqzQ2nXL_

Thank you!!! Ohhh weird, that’s so interesting! I’ve never thought about the metal screws in a microwave! That makes complete sense though! I’m glad you enjoyed this episode ☺️
