Exactly 😭😭😭 Everyone calls him edgy and emo but I can’t. He suffered the most out of all of the cast over something that wasn’t his fault, and because of that he can’t even live his life. He enjoys acting but it gives him panic attacks because he feels guilty over being HAPPY. No one noticed that he’s really going through it until recently when Ichigo came back (I was so happy. Finally, some help for Aqua!) He pushes people away because ‘if they stay with him they’ll get hurt’ (Ex: Akane and Kana) and he even used to think that someone like him shouldn’t fall in love until he left his revenge- He’s probably back into that mindset now. I’m glad you noticed him!
The messed up part is when the anime gets to the part where Hikari was essentially statutory raped at ELEVEN YEARS OLD, there's going to be a lot of wtf out loud. That won't be until season 3. Season 2 will focus on the Tokyo Blade Arc and finish when Ruby goes to the dark side. Still I was like WTF when Akane was talking about that statutory rape part and then how Hikari leaked the information that led to the murder suicide. Lot's of messed up stuff.

I feel so awful for Aqua cause it feels like he's being suppressed and held back from getting to just live and freaking enjoy his life. These actual phantoms of Gorou and small Aqua who witnessed the horror of Ai's death up close hang over him. Obviously, with just Aqua alone, I understand it's the determination to make sure the one who hurt Ai truly faces some punishment. But with Gorou, it just feels like Aqua is dragging around the regrets of two lifetimes. The regrets Gorou had over Serena and of not being there to help Ai give birth. Then the regret of being unable to help Ai when she was killed. Having these memories of his former life definitely help him see the bigger picture and have this insight in a way no other person ever could, but it's at such a steep price of robbing him of a life guided by anything other than revenge and pain.
Being able to remember his past life is both a blessing and a curse you could say. I do think this part of Aqua’s story goes to show how he is being held back from living his life like u said. Aqua was free until he learned his job wasn’t finished yet 🥲

Then, the individual would immediately follow Hikaru into death, still guilt-ridden and responsible for the suffering Hikaru went through, and for Hikaru's actions that resulted in the suffering caused by Ai's death.
Haven’t played Koudelka but someone else stealing Aqua’s kill could actually be a very good move by Aka now that I think about it.
