People supporting the take down of fan games never truly understood Pokémon
My favorite Wes Pokémon glazed pls tell me this is not true 😢😭😭😭
It's not just Pokemon. Any fan games for any franchise should be respected and allowed to be released.
You mean like Verlisify?
@@1RamToughthe dude who said legends arceus was the only glitchy pokemon game and scarlet and violet have no performance issues whatsoever. Yeah thats the guy
Because they lack brain cells
They send a dmca to a site full of non-profit passion projects, but they’re fine with shotty ads that’s promoting what is essentially bootleg pokemon? Talk about company double standards.
I don’t think they got a choice on the matter when it comes to the ads. A lot of other companies face the same issues and can’t do anything about it
@@likky1That and this happened only now after 10 years. Kind of hard to really do much else when you've only started to go full on.

@@Pranjalplays_100%
@@Pranjalplays_ can i have the link i wanted to play pokemon uranium for so long
@@Pranjalplays_That's actually not true, Uranium was not taken down by Nintendo, the core dev team just got scared cuz Nintendo was taking down metroid fangames around that iirc (and prism, might be wrong on that).
That's why they are still making a "sequel", not sure if it's a sequel but it looks to be a spiritual successor.
This happens every few years ultimately it'll be fine. I remember when Zeta, omicron and other games were taken down around 2016-2017 but they're back up now. A few years ago they tried to take down RUclips channels uploading soundtracks, released like a handful of tracks themselves, gave up and just let the people upload again. Relic castle will probably come back in some form either from another fan or the same creator maybe not now but in a few weeks/months. The whole takedown thing comes in waves you just gotta wait for things to settle down.
but I do wonder though, now that Relic Castle is gone, where do we find fan games at one place, including newer ones that not many people know about? I know we can google some games that we know of but most links lead to weird ads
Yeah, I’m sure people will continue to find ways to post and play fan-games, people will always find a way on the internet. But still, the fact that the Pokémon company really mistreats it’s community like this is still unfair. Fan- games help keep a fandom alive.
@@lorimartin6819 where should we go now? :(
@@monakasan7486 I don’t know much about the fan game websites unfortunately. Can’t fully help with that search, sorry. I’m sure someone else here might know something. Or maybe someone will make a new site, not right now understandablely, but maybe someday.

To be fair with the Palworld mod, that was locked behind a paywall. But Relic Castle was free with no ads, so I don't know the reasoning behind that one.
The only reasoning you need is: Nintendo.
I think uranium was taken down all those years back for similar reasons as well... Some of the ppl involved were using patreon or something to earn from it
Because they are just taking assets from actual Pokémon. That’s actually illegal. If their regions were just fan designed Pokemon it would be fine

I don't think pokemon realizes that fan games are what keep people from dropping pokemon entirely.
I doubt the amount of ppl fangames are keeping from dropping Pokémon is significant enough to make a dent in their business to be honest, niche fans have a tendency of overestimating their value, Pokémon's longevity have more to do with its ability to keep capturing new generations of fans
@@generaldane True, but I feel like this will likely affect at least a few content creators. Less content creators = less visibility to Gen Alpha = less overall relevance. Kids arent watching TV these days, so they are less likely to see it from the anime.

Good god, I've never seen a company that hates its fanbase as much as TPC.
But the smash community exists
@@zeanone9257 I have like zero Smash community knowledge, so I'll take your word for it
Dude, Nintendo needs to chill out and realize that fan content is COMPLEMENTARY to their IP's. The more something can get circulated around, the more awareness it gets. The more awareness a franchise gets, the better it will be for merch sales. Just let people be fans and geek out over the franchise. None of these fan games threaten Nintendo's official products. Anyone seeking out these niche fan games is doing so because they're already consumers of the official products. Anyone who's only playing fan games without buying any of the real games isn't going to go out and spend money on the official games if fan games get banned. All this over protection is so stupid on Nintendo/GameFreak's part.
Well I'm still completely expecting them to come after my crappy little Another Code demake I happened to make at the same time they were finishing the remake of both. Because it's a Nintendo-console based franchise from all the way back 20 years ago.
But if they don't, and only focus on Pokemon, assumedly because I demade the original singular 20 year old DS game instead of the two-in-one Switch game that hadn't even come out by Christmas 2023 (when I released mine) and Pokemon is 'still new with frequent new stuff', I'm just gonna call Zubatcrap.
I'm hoping my demake has people try the original DS game and Wii sequel, as well as the remakes!!
We're clearly trying to show we love the franchises. Why punish us when we're not making money or being a threat??

" Why punish us when we're not making money or being a threat??"
Because of the few that did sadly.
Anecdote, but I'm a big Pokémon fan.
My friend isn't and has only played Pokémon Legends: Arceus and...Pokémon Infinite Fusion.
My friend plays more games than me, so if anyone is indicative of a gamer, it's him.
And there's probably less overlap than you say between the folks who buy every Pokémon game and those who play fan games.
Most people who play Pokémon may not even have their own computers anymore to play a fan game. I have a Chromebook and my phone. But I've bought every version of the mainline games on the Switch and 3DS.
Yea no fan game threatens their official games but everyone usually voices out loud about them being better... So hmm 🤔(note this is 99% not actually the reason)
@@GamenessViejo We ARE though, that's the whole point XD We don't make fangames and demakes because we don't like the original games. We're just adding to the collection of stuff to play.
Damm... that with the taken down of Citra and Yuzu, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are going ham on the fan game, mods, and other ways to create fan games and enjoy them. This is the beginning of the end of an era for the community.
I know they are doing it mostly for copyright and the way they are seeing steeling ideas in japan. But, this is sad and harsh...
Not to mention this *DESTROYS* the ability to preserve games
They seriously didn't take down one of those Peta dark flash games of their games... Because it's their stupidity and greed that is it!
The PETA thing, as sick as it is, would qualify under parody which falls under fair use. They can’t take it down; they probably wanted to.
I think the reason they go after fan games rather than things like fan art or even things like Poketuber regions is because the case is easier to defend that it has “an upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.” That’s the last of the fair use tests.
@@renantemerin9248we must think logically for cases like Peta where they legally can't take it down

I remember finding you back in when i was younger through watching your playthrough of Zeta and Omnicron and your playthrough of Pokemon Ash Gray. It breaks my heart seeing The Pokemon Company doing this since these fan games have allowed for so much creativity and have helped create such a positive impact on the Pokemon Community. I hope The Pokemon Community can learn to understand that and change their mind so we can continue to play more amazing fan games.
I feel sad about the fan games.
Pokémon can’t handle fans doing a better job than them 😂
REAL!
I fucking hate this point. Don't get me wrong I hate that Relic Castle got DMCA'd but this point fucking sucks. Making a derivative fan game using already existing engine and recycled assets with as much time as you want are completely different then making a new game on a company with a strict deadline
I... Hope you blaming the black suits at the top and not the devs since they have no control over any of the business side of things.
Pokemon devs have to follow a strict policy that prehibits them from looking up fan creations online :/
This is not what people have in mind, this Nintendo being Nintendo and defending their copyright (even if the sprites were "fanart", the designs and name still fall under Nintendo. Unless the fangames where just "spiritual successors", they 'd always be under Nintendo's radar).
@naganut9718 1) Nintendo themselves are the one who make the deadline they could have just made the deadline at a later date 2) what do you think nintendo does for all the pokemon games they release on 1 console do you think they come up with entirely new code every single time for the game ? 3) 1 is a multi billion dollar company and the other is a small company of people that do it as a hobby/ a single person making the fan game even if what you say about Nintendo is the case excuse me for having the standard expectations of a proper multi billion dollar company who does this as their main business 💀
Not sure why they’re doing these strikes & DMCAs now, but my guess is that Nintendo/TPC are doing this because Japan has stricter copyright laws that they do in US and may consider this stuff as stealing.
I remember how Totally Not Mark had a similar situation from Toei with his Dragon Ball & One Piece videos, or how Suede received a serious DMCA for his “Suede’s Pokemon Journey” series because of how they both included clips from the shows in their videos, which violated Japan’s copyright laws
As a developer of another Pokemon fan game, this is so sad to hear! 😢😢
I remember playing the online fan game Pokemon Omega back in 2011-2013ish? And I loved it so much and the Pokemon company shut it down and it was heart breaking.
I swear they do this bull around the time that a new official game is going to be released. At least that's what I remember around the time they shut down Uranium. I'm pretty sure something like this happened around the release of Sword and Shield too.
We need our justice for the Pokemon Fan-Games!
This is 100% because of palworld, they have had them on edge and after the pokemon mod they probably though that its time to dmca everything so people can only focus on pokemon games and nothing else because they've finally realized that most of the fan games and pal world, although inspired by them have surpassed them especially with how tragic sv's release were, and now they're shitting themseleves 😂
Palworld would last for a short time. The "body type" mindset happened when the developers said "Americans sometimes want to make very ugly characters." On top of that "male" and "female" are swapped to make it seem like "female" is "body type 1", for example, making it even more confusing to anyone.
@LuigiTheMetal64 I mean honestly how long pal world lasted doesn't matter, the initial impact made people realize that Nintendo and game freak were not delivering anything unique or new in pokemon anymore and that's what caused them to fear losing their fans, because if people realize their is better stuff and it's cheaper than pokemon everyone will play that instead
@@TheRealKman @LuigiTheMetal64
Palworld is still going strong for being off-brand. It's 23k in-game right now on Steam Alone. Palworld only seems like its dying off because its content is limited at the moment so its easy to burn out on, but the game is still in Early Access (I think Alpha...?) and they far exceeded sales expectations which gives them a lot more money to work with, so their resources are expanding. Anyone who is business oriented, namely Nintendrones, would notice this and feel fear. Though, I think this is largely unrelated to Palworld, I do genuinely believe that Freak (they dropped the "Game" a while ago) just has sadistic tendencies and likes to spit on their fans to make a point, since whenever they do this seems almost random and arbitrary. I just hope I get to live long enough to see Nintendo, or at least Freak, die and all those people be out of jobs.
@@TheRealKman Lol no. Diehard fans spammed Pokémon to investigate Palworld and they basically said "We'll take a look" and they never did. Taking Palworld down would've been bad for business and been legally shaky since Digimon and other franchises do the "mon" thing too. Palworld is down 95% of its peak player count now. It'd be way higher if they sued it.

When Satoru Iwata died so did Nintendo

Pokemon are just salty that BDSP, Scarlet and Violet was so heavily criticised; and they saw how successful Palworld was and went into a tantrum rage. relic castle was an unfortunate victim.
Essentially Relic Castle fosters creativity amongst the creation of fake pokemon with fan projects and Nintendo cannot have fans create new pokemon designs which outshine official designs because it would limit their ability to come up with unique designs.
Its very petty in my opinion. If The Pokemon company and nintendo continues, I can see a day where nobody will care about pokemon. A multimillion dollar franchise collapsed and dead in the water.
Oh come on, Palworld was nothing. People asked them to go after Palworld after seeing the questionably legal designs, they did nothing about it, and then Palworld dropped 95% of its player base because most casual gamers don't care about Pokémon much. TPC couldn't care less if Gamefreak and Creatures get ridiculed, they just want their money and they'll keep getting it.
If anything, relic castle introduced more people to the world of Pokémon. Such a shame
Pokemon is just mad that fans make better games then them
I have a feeling that SkyTemple will be very cautious for the forseeable future.
Don't give them any ideas!
so devastating :/ the entire community is held up by fan games
Not the entirety. Been playing Pokemon since maybe 2002 and I never played a single fan game.
@@itsmarshallll2600you’re missing out
It’s not that the entire community is being held up by fan games, or even that every Pokémon fan should be forced to love and play fan games, it’s that fan games are sub section of the community. It’s people’s passion and work that is being ripped away from them. It’s people who want more out of Pokémon, who, time and time again, have been denied by TPC. They found their own way to enjoy Pokémon and are now being punished for it.
Good job comment@@invertedLOL
Bro, the Pokémon fandom is mostly children whose parents would never let them download an emulator
We need to move all Pokemon fan game content to Rumble, Newgrounds and Vimeo.
We as a community should make very clear to Nintendo that we don’t like what they did. And make a stance. They should feel the harm they done here
It's bc they're salty that their quality was challenged over Palworld.
Palworld is down 95% on its player count. All the casual gamers moved on to Helldivers.
Pokemon just eant to make where only they can make Pokemon game. Probably soon they'll go after fanart, and anyone who uses sounds/cries for stuff on Twitch and YT. I enjoy the fan games and fanart much more than the official stuff. The fact that a company will destroy someone's creativity like that is just saddening.
"they jsut wanna make it so only they can make pokemon games"
Uhh...they already are my guy. Do you not know how the law works? No matter how good a fangame is, it's still a copyright violation. TPC are *legally* in their right to take down anything they didn't authorize. If your argument is from a legal perspective, you will lose every time. The thing that needs to be debated is whether those laws are just, which they mostly aren't but yeah if you make a thing and someone makes an imitation of that thing you're allowed to get it taken down, no matter what the motivations of the imitation were.
They didn't mention the law, you comment in bad faith.@@SnoFitzroy
Anyway, for the original comment, fan art is protected by fair use so that'll be fine.
Fan art’s pretty easy to defend under fair use. I doubt they’ll go after that. The issue with fan games is that it is more likely to “cut into their market”. I personally disagree, since true fans will support the official stuff, but it’s harder to defend based on the fair use test.
@@italianbaptist I think the cut in their profit is the maintenance of online servers. Those stuff aren't cheap to maintain.

The irony of this is the fact that people are selling fangames on Ebay for more than $30 a piece. Those are the people Nintendo and Pokemon should be targeting, but instead, they're going after people who are trying to keep the legacy alive.
Criminals using Pokémon cards to launder stolen and illegally earned money? Acceptable.
Pokémon fans creating passion projects to express their love for the franchise? Unacceptable!

Maybe, it has something to do with Palworld... People kept sending message to GF regarding the use of asset from pokemon. So, maybe they decide that if they take down palworld for the use of asset, they have to do it with everything that use pokemon asset no matter if they make money or not just so it would be kinda fair... I guess... I'm not a professional, so this is mainly a theory of sort...
They couldn't take down Palworld because it's legally distinct enough and would be hard to prove they used any assets. Palworld is down by 95% on its player count so TPC has nothing to worry about. This is probably just some legal work that finally went through approval.
Copyright is really stupid, while understandable since it's in their own right. However, by doing so they alienate the pokemon fan community and just rub salt in the wound for us that want to keep playing pokemon and enjoy stories that TPCI would NEVER make. More mature stories like Pokemon Reborn.
Holy shit. This is like the second biggest community for fan games. I hope they don’t take down the other one I’m thinking about…
I was honestly scared of mentioning that community in this video out of fear of jinxing it... 😅
Relic Castle can host his website in Pakistan - Pokemon is not trademark here
Russia too, they practically encourage breaking copyright laws of foreign companies there and Nintendo pulled out of that market. Some people might find it unsavory but it'd be a safe move.
Also from my experience, given that pokémon essentials as you said is a modified version of a purchasable rpg-maker version. The creators of rpg-maker has the legal president to go after them too, so they'd likely have two enteties with the legal right to pursue them. Which is why you should distribute such content as a patch file if possible. As distributing a modification of another piece of software is fully legal, but distributing a modified version of said software is in a sense distributing the product of a separate entity. Unless the licence of the software allows it.
Pokemon Essentials is a RPG Maker XP project, not a modified version of XP. You have to get XP totally legitimately, do nothing with it, and then just open Essentials project file.
This kinda sounds like someone trolling with false takedown flags...
idk man pokemon is just banning stuff left and right now. they are in a role rn cause all these incidents like the emulators + website and stuff started like a few weeks ago hahaha.

MunchingOrange moving to video game journalism! Let’s gooo
They can certainly keep trying and trying but as the Internet is, it's a nigh impossible fight for Nintendo, Game Freak, and TPCi to actually win. Every time they press harder, more and more people create fan content (or reupload the just then DMCA'd content many times over) simply to spite them. Also can't really lawyer up against a faceless horde, likely why they've now gone after a forum- certainly crossing a boundary they haven't before though.
they've been taking down pokemon fan games since 2017
This is bad for me I was making LEGENDS GALAR now I'm scared on what to do
Well assuming your specific game doesn't blow up similarly to Uranium you'd likely be fine, hosting it in several other sites, and I expect Relic Castle may end up hosting games on their Discord Channel instead, and it may eventually come back.
That's assuming this isn't a sign things won't be getting worse though, as it could be a sign that things are going to start being penalized far more.
Still game creation is a long process, so overall I'd say if your still enjoying working on the project, that this doesn't really need to change much.
@Raj-vy2yn those are wise words thank you
Nintendo seems to be trying to eliminate all fangames… are we sure they want to have fans at all?
This isnt Nintendos fault. Its purely TPC
@@Phoenix_Blader_93 If Nintendo didn't want this to happen, they could have stopped it at any time. Even if this was an accident... Nintendo liked the outcome well enough to keep it as is.

We need to support and protect all the fangames, as well as those that issue their games through their own personal sites. Joined the Discord and support one fangame creator through Patreon (won't say which to protect that fangame).
This is such a shame, it hurts creators huge and small and just overall damages fans' love of the franchise itself. I got back into Pokemon because of playing Insurgence. A fangame was why I bought a 3ds, a Switch, and all the games gen 4 and up. It's literally in their best interests to keep fangames alive - they get old fans back into the games, and help new fans introduce themselves to Pokemon by playing a game for free and seeing if they like it, before they pay money for one.
I never really thought about how much Mo does fan games, especially considering I haven’t been back in a while, but at the same time I feel like the Ash Gray/flora Sky/Naranja/Sacred Gold Era was a huge part of this channel during the BW/XY days.
Well they potentially just killed their company with this TBH without the fans they're nothing essentially it was the fans that made it so they were such an institution for so damned long.
God dammit. Nintendo needs to grow some balls and be third party and make Better games without bugs and glitch instead of making counsels and copyright striking people to make money. They need to change!

Reason they took down the old video now, was likely cause you were small content creator atm and it took them while for them to find you and notice videos that were made without permission.
Makes sense, as fair use in japan, doesn't exist, neither labor unions, hinse why you transformative content got no mercy by the pokemon company.
but I do wonder though, now that Relic Castle is gone, where do we find fan games at one place, including newer ones that not many people know about? I know we can google some games that we know of but most links lead to weird ads
Relic Castle Discord is still Up, so most likely people will post it there
Nintendo makes great games, but they are just as evil as the likes of EA and Epic Games. People just give them a pass because of their products.
They're nowhere near EA or Epic Games in terms of how evil they are. Nintendo doesn't:
1) prioritize lootboxes and live service games
2) Drive their employees to jumping off a building (Blizzard]
3) Steal from customers (Ubisoft]
4) Sensor Japanese products while letting Western game devs to get away with worse shit (Sony)
5) Hire Sweet Baby Inc or other ESG brands to handle their shit
