Ivar was the choice of an old embittered man seeking nothing but revenge and Valhalla. That does not compare with Bjorn the son he feared would be greater than him. Or Ubbe who worked to fulfill his earliest desire for better lands for his people. Ivar was the most 'Viking', something Ragnar never truly felt he was in the main stages of his life.
Sigurd Snake in the Eyes in real life survived all Viking raids, and his descendants are still on the throne in either Denmark or Norway, so, I'd say he was the actual legacy
I disagree. Ragnar told Ivar this because it was what ivar needed to hear, and because Ragnar felt sorry for him, guilty for almost killing him, and because he had no idea what a monster he truly is. Ivar shows hints of humanity throughout the series, but in each and every instance....it is selfish. For himself. For his own desires. For his own retribution or pride. Ivar is a truly despicable character.

The true legacy of Ragnar was the future and the preserving of his people their culture and religion, and that's why he actually chose Ivar, because he knew that hard days are coming, and the fact that Ivar was still alive till that point even though he was crippled, was the biggest proof of his ruthlessness.
Ragnar had the greatest relationship with Ivar because he was the only one who accepted Ragnar after being abandoned. The only other son who had any real relationship with Ragnar was Bjorn. But Bjorn, out of necessity, chose his mother. While Ivar risked his death to go raiding with a disgraced father. Ivar and Bjorn are both Ragnar's legacy, but Ragnar was closer to Ivar at the end of his life.
Sigurd had potential but Ivar cut that short Ubbe made Ragnar’s original dream come true Bjorn tried to to what Ubbe did but he ended up being pulled back by Ivar, Hitsverk didn’t do anything with his life and lastly Ivar did bad deeds and wasted so much on fighting Bjorn.
I’d say this guy is right, ubbe made his dreams come true, in a way so did hvitserk, But Ivar definitely didn’t. We all love Ragnar but by the time he went on that trip he was ready to die and had been through so much. He asked all of them to go with him, Ivar turned out to be the best for revenge, and for a chance to escape. But bjorn would’ve made young ragnars dreams come true if he wasn’t fighting off Ivar the rest of the series.
Ragnar approached Ivar last about going with him to England. He said that stuff to him when he was caught because it appealed to Ivar’s ego and would get him to leave and come back with the great army for revenge. If Ivar stays and dies, he dies a pointless death.
They all played a part really. Except Sigurd. Even Vitzsurk kept a sharp eye on Ivar to make sure he progressed. My favorite is Ivar. But Bjorn is the rightful heir to Ragnar's throne

Each of his sons was his legacy Bjorn is his legacy as an explorer and King, killed as his ambitions clashed with those around him. Ubbe is his legacy as an explorer and seeker of peace, which lives on in the simplest of ways. Sigurd is his legacy of love for his brothers, killed by Ivar. Hvitserk is his legacy as a broken man who could not exist in the Norse system, and was driven elsewhere. And finally Ivar, Ivar was his ambition as King to subjugate all others. To leave a legacy and a dynasty that would echo for years, but was flawed from the start. Just as no man could healthily contain so much power, no child could be born healthy to Ivar the Boneless.
He literally asked bjorn before Ivar lol. Ivar was his last choice and made him think that he was the chosen one. In reality he wasn’t. He was manipulated by Ragnar to make him think that he was the one he chose above all else 😂😂
He said what he had to to light the fire underneath him...each son had their own interpretation of their fathers legacy...he saw what was inside Ivar and used it.
Ragnar told him that to prepare him for the world and Ivars life to come. His other sons didn’t need to be savage and pep talked into imaging that they’re special. It’s up to interpretation but I think the thing many viewers misinterpreted is that Ragnar had many plans for what would happen after his death. And that much is clear because his actions leading up to his demise put all of his sons in positions to replace what he did as king. He also specifically chose Ivar to come to England with him because he knew he would die, he also knew that if Ivar had witnessed the way the Saxons were going to treat Ragnar, he would be the most motivated to go back and inform everyone that it’s time for war. Ubbe was always going to follow in Ragnar’s steps directly and I think that’s why he never made it a point to tell him what to do. Hivetserk and Sigurd were never on Ragnar’s radar and as such they struggled, strayed from the family and one of them even got killed for that.
Blah blah blah. Ragnar regrets leaving his farm, he wanted a simple and peaceful life but realized that when it was too late. The only one of his sons that achieved what Ragnar wished he had was Ubbe. @@LimoMusicOfficial Ivar did nothing but betray everyone and anyone for his own personal gain. he killed family and friends and even allied with and helped the Russians invade his homeland…
Part of the reason Ivar was so ruthless was because in his time that was the way to survive. From the moment he was born people wanted him dead. As a young man people took advantage of him (Sigurd, Freydis, Oleg). Ivar was not a good man but he was Viking and he died Viking, and he lasted as long as he did because he manipulated many into fearing him. He was ruthless because for his chosen way of life that was rhe only way he could possibly stay alive.
No ragnar knew ivars pain and hope so he gave him courage to overcome his weaknesses he already knew bjorns fait and was far prouder of bjorn then ivar but he also knew the two sons to truely make an impact was both of them but yet he sadly forgot abot ubbe
Ragnar tested about his sons ability how they developed on their age. He saw every details on his sons for being a king ,warrior ,adventurer or emperor. Ragnar was Fearless, warm and kind heart ,smart, tactical like a chess player, courious. A perfect viking warrior and king. He has a inner proud to them so he knew about their declines for travelling to England . So he decided ivar and taught him while asking a question to his 4 brothers . It's like a connection between father and son. He loves his sons but on different same ways. Björn bc his 1st son and a warrior of steel like his brother rollo. Ubbe about his smart mind and curious like a adventurer : Sigurd a real fearless warrior: Hvitserk as a keeper of brotherhood love: Ivar has a big heart for his brother despite Sigurd and Hvitserk was jerk to turned him into a real monster but smart. Even Ubbe and Björn has a big fear to ivar. Ivar was so proud he always want to be Björn but his mother didn't left him and every kids and his brothers Hvitserk and Sigurd didn't took serious to ivar as brother or human so they bullied him (poor ivar). So ragnar saw his real rage on his eyes and decided for travelling to england as lesson. Ragnar wasn't ashamed of his lost war or whatever he didn't cared about his people, he was gone for being ashamed to his sons and couldn't looking at their eyes. A real love of a father
Ragnar was desperate to be loved again, he chose Iva last... Of all his son's... Ragnar would say anything to anyone to be loved again, Bjorn wasn't wrong.
Not like he literally asked Bjorn in person “I wish for you to come to England with me” or anything everyone said no EXCEPT Ivar and so Ragnar saw his potential and therefore decided to pass on his knowledge about being ruthless because Ivar literally can’t defend hisself let alone fight a 1v1 with anyone because of his “Boneless” condition and Ragnar knew his real strength was his intellect. As far as his chosen heir all of his sons I believed would’ve been his choice but Bjorn is the most like Ragnar and I believe that Ragnar would’ve chosen Bjorn to be the ruler because of his exceptional skills as a warrior, leader and family bond. Bjorn would’ve ruled as Ragnar ruled and looked after his brothers because Bjorn always loved his brothers regardless and didnt wish to fight any of them but Ivar broke their family apart and literally ruled Kattegat as a harsh and poor leader by only caring for hisself and thinking himself as a god lmao instead of doing what’s best for his people as Ragnar would have done and all of the sons of Ragnar had ambition they all had the different aspects of Ragnar divided between them but I believe Bjorn was the most “all-around” like Ragnar while Ivar took after his ruthless Viking side, Ubbe his farmer and for the future of his people side while Hvitserk and Sigurd really didn’t take after Ragnar they were their own persons and Hvitserk just played follow the leader between Bjorn, Ubbe and Ivar whenever it suited him best I would not trust Hvitserk whatsoever they should’ve killed him off instead of Sigurd
ragnar said everything he said to not make ivar feel worthless ivar was only ever alive out of pitty he knew his fathers name would save him ragnat was the only reason any of his brothers never killed him sooner
Ragnar was a confused man... one minute, he doesn't believe in the God's... but in the end, he makes a big speech about going to Valhalla... I think Ragnar told Ivar what he believed Ivar needed to hear... he wanted to boost his confidence so that he would believe in himself. I honestly don't think Ragnar knew Ivar very well and wouldn't have approved of a lot of things that he did... just like he didn't approve of everything Bjorn did. Ivar was the last son he asked to go with him... technically, Ivar asked him... Ragnar realized Ivar was the best choice because his enemies wouldn't see him as a threat... he knew Ivar would always be underestimated... and he knew Ivar could use that to his advantage... He knew Ivar would have to be ruthless in order to e successful... I believe that Ragnar believes his biggest weakness was being too kind and that cost him to be vulnerable to betrayal........
Ragnar told certain thing Ivar because he was the only one who did go with him of all of Ragnar's sons not because he believed it. At the end his depression made him think emotionally because he had nothing anymore
Wrong just completely wrong, Ragnar wanted to take Bjorn with him but Bjorn didnt wanna take Ragnar to his death cuz he knew that's what he was gonna do. Ragnar said that shit to Ivar bc he was the only one there and Ivar was still weak. Ragnar was just trynna strength his son, give him somethin to grab ahold of believe in and run with it.
Not quite. Bjorn chose not to go with ragnar because he was angry with him and felt betrayed, he had no idea he wanted to die. Also Ragnar told Ivar all that because he could sense his ambition and anger, he knew Ivar could be the greatest Viking of all time. After all, Ivar won way more battles than Bjorn
Th e all upheld a portion of Ragnars dream I think for Ivar he simply wanted him to Be the best he could be. Regardless what actions they bring he didn’t want any child to die with no Renown.
I’m sure Ragnar would approve of everything ivar has done except for the killing of Sigurd. Ragnar told ivar to use his anger intelligently but with Sigurd he was thoughtless, careless, and emotional and it cost them all their brother

At the end, Ragnar renounced to his dream (to install settlement for his people) and just wanted to get revenge (remember when he says to ecbert that dying in England is part of an ambitious strategy)
Bjorn had an army already, so Ragnar already knew his son's would seek revenge for his death. Ivar played a big role in the TV show. Same with Ubbe and Bjorn. Each son fulfilled Ragnar's legacy in their own ways. Ubbe found new land to build and flourish, Bjorn became the first real king all of Scandinavia and preserved Kattegat, and Ivar became the best most strategic & fearless warrior/leader on the battlefield and was the main reason why they were able to defeat two biggest kingdoms in Wessex.
Everyone always ignores the fact that Ragnar had like, zero adult interaction with Ubbe, Hvitzerk, or Sigurd. He was in Kattegat just long enough to get ships and men to sail to England. Ivar and Bjorn knew him best, and only Ivar never lost faith in him.
Ubbe was weak
He left the old ways
Ragnar wanted someone to lead his people through the old ways even he didn't believe in them but he knew it was important to his people
And so by that instance he knew Ivar was the only MF willing to do that while the others

Ragnar just used Ivar to take revenge.. he motivated him.. he asked all his sons to come they all rejected.. his 1st choice was not Ivar.. he was desperate so he took what he could.. he needed one of his sons there to witness what happens to tell the stories and revenge his death.. it was part of his big plan to get revenge, he knew he set his people up in the lands of England and they were slaughtered, it ate him up.. coz it was his choices as a king that led them to being slaughtered...
but during his journey with Ivar he saw that Ivar had something and he fueled that up
Ivar was the choice of an old embittered man seeking nothing but revenge and Valhalla.
That does not compare with Bjorn the son he feared would be greater than him. Or Ubbe who worked to fulfill his earliest desire for better lands for his people.
Ivar was the most 'Viking', something Ragnar never truly felt he was in the main stages of his life.
Hit that on the head
Ragnar didn't seek Valhalla. He didn't believe in the gods anymore.
False

Bjorn was Rollo's legacy... not Ragnar's
@@arslanarshad5005Rollo's legacy was every English monarch after Edward the confessor lmao.
All of his sons carried out some part of his legacy.
Ubbe was the closest though, travelling the world to find a permanent home.
Then explain he invaded his homeland by using 2 outsiders french and russ
He ruthlessly killed Vikings by using other armies
Facts
Bjorn and ubbe preserved ragnar's legacy
Because the Person who KILLED HIS MOTHER was in that f*cking homeland and obviously he need the outsiders because he didn’t have enough armies to overthrow his enemies which was in his homeland & get his revenge. Also, you should know how Vikings works & do things if you really watched the show. They didn't give a f*ck about respect or honors sh*tty stuff like that, as long they win the fkin’ war & get what they want. If you really watched the show then you should've known all that or else you wouldn't have commented this if you really watched & tried to understand the show carefully.
How many times must I repeat myself ? The only reason Ivar brought the Rus to Norway was so he could stage rebellion against him. He probably also wanted to smash Bjorn in the face but he dudn't want tge destruction of his people.
...after lagertha shot his mom in the back, when lagertha chose to leave. Aslaug was legit just tryna leave when she got shot in the back. She was like "fine you want all of this back only now that ragnar is dead? Fine take it, just lemme leave alive so my sons dont tryn kill you". Lagertha sealed her own fate, and ivar's brothers (aslaugs others sons that is) betrayed the memory of their mother and they betrayed their brother ivar when he needed their support. I understand bjorn not wanting his mom to die as well, but the bitch literally shot her ex's widow in the back, cuz of jealousy.
Real ones know that Ubbe was the one who truly carried on his legacy
I love Ivar's voice. It sounds so soft but it can be haunting.

This was a damn good clip 💪🏽
Bjorn was his favorite son, no one can argue that. He needed Ivar to be ruthless to avenge him
The true legacy of Ragnar was the future and the preserving of his people their culture and religion, and that's why he actually chose Ivar, because he knew that hard days are coming, and the fact that Ivar was still alive till that point even though he was crippled, was the biggest proof of his ruthlessness.
Respect to this clip because, although you added music, it wasn't cringy or louder than the dialogue. Kudos to you, poster/editor.
"Chose". I wonder if he would have said that if a different son came with him to England
It's a shame that Ivar doesn't know Ragnar chose bjorn.
No!😊
Sigurd had potential but Ivar cut that short Ubbe made Ragnar’s original dream come true Bjorn tried to to what Ubbe did but he ended up being pulled back by Ivar, Hitsverk didn’t do anything with his life and lastly Ivar did bad deeds and wasted so much on fighting Bjorn.
Best edit of all viking
When dad leaves you in charge but siblings fuss lol
Ragnar approached Ivar last about going with him to England. He said that stuff to him when he was caught because it appealed to Ivar’s ego and would get him to leave and come back with the great army for revenge. If Ivar stays and dies, he dies a pointless death.
Björn couldn't accept that Ivar was smarter than him
Yep totally 💯 true I’m with you brother

He truly wished for his sons to build a legacy of their own, that is why Ivar was the chosen son
My vote is Ubbe he did all the things Ragnar wished he had done and all while staying a true Viking.
Because he wasn't manipulating Ivar as he had everyone......
It was just tough for Bjorn to accept that Ivar actually had a strength that he and the rest of the brothers didn’t have
Ragnar was playing a higher mind game with his sons. They are both right when it matters..
In real life, Sigurd was said to have been Ragnar favorite son. It’s so cringe how they killed him in the TV show but it is what it is. Character development for Ivar meant more to them than anything

We gotta admit Ragnar manipulated Ivar if anyone was his favorite it was Bjorn and if anyone walked in his footsteps it was Ubbe.
Bjorn is different what a legendary dying ❤❤❤
what did ivar do? instead of proclaiming himself a god, destroyed his fathers legacy and killing his fellow vikings to prove his tactical prowess. Bjorn and ubbe fought and carried their fathers legacy making kattegat the best trading station in all of norway honorable leaders
Each of his sons was his legacy
Bjorn is his legacy as an explorer and King, killed as his ambitions clashed with those around him.
Ragnar was telling Ivar what he needed to hear. Ubbe and Bjorn were the best.
Bjorn is more like lagertha
Ragnar told him that to prepare him for the world and Ivars life to come. His other sons didn’t need to be savage and pep talked into imaging that they’re special. Ivar being cripple would always be looked at as such. Therefore he has to be wild and unpredictable. If all his sons were equally born then we all know Bjorn is the real heir of Ragnars legacy.
The real ivar is the most remarkable viking that ever lived and the most rememered
Well that’s wrong. Ragnar asked Bjorn to go to England and Bjorn refused. Ivar was the last resort.

This is wrong. He only took Ivar because the others said no.
A real son wouldn’t abandon his father even when dishonored why he chose him.
All the sons inherent some of ragnar personality
Lol Ragnar was tryna kill him ever since he was born
Because he was cripple
I think that he’s legacy was provided into Ivar and Ubbe since Ubbe is kind of Ragnars exploring side and Ivar is he’s warrior side
Wish they showed Bjorn reach Italy and Ivar in Dublin like they did historically
This ivar is real shit for vikings...
Ubbe did better than all of them, Ivar's best is bringing the Russian army to slaughter their own people, how that fulfills ragnar's dream?
ragnar said everything he said to not make ivar feel worthless ivar was only ever alive out of pitty he knew his fathers name would save him ragnat was the only reason any of his brothers never killed him sooner
