You have to appreciate this was released 45 years ago. No social media, no auto tune, nothing but themselves to promote themselves and it was the first real rock opera heard from a band essentially classed as a pop band. the video was one nobody had seen before the basic effects today were ground breaking at the time.

It's not a rock opera, it's a rock song with a section that has obvious opera influence. The Who's Tommy was a rock opera, and it came out in 1969.

@@martinda7446 Good set of speakers are great and you can enjoy the music. But for Queen songs especially they always tried to make studio versions different. If your speakers can bounce the sound from the left ear to the right ear and even feel it circling your head by all means use them. If they don’t you will miss out it really is a different experience.

"It was cool." Uh, when this came out, I was only a year or two older than she is, and when I heard this for the first time, my jaw *dropped!* Every time it came on the radio after that, I begged my mom to turn it up!!
To be fair though, I wasn't in front of a camera when I heard "Bo Rap" for the first time, so my reaction could be genuinely full of excitement. This girl is only 13, and might be shy about being in front of a camera. Big brother might have done well to ask her a few leading questions about the song, to draw her out so that she could share her thoughts and impressions more easily. It's far easier to respond to a direct question than to be presented with, "so, what did you think," when you're nervous and just want this filming thing to be over. :)

I think reaction videos are a valuable thing, IF there is a reaction and some thoughts are verbalized.
videos like these are the reason, why react videos have a bad reputation.
I don't blame the girl (who's worried more about her hair than the video, but being in her age is difficult on its own), but damn.

It's slightly strange that people don't seem to mention that the video for this song (filmed for the princely sum of £8000 apparently) was, essentially, the first of the music videos. All the more remarkable as it predated the MTV generation. It was made due to necessity - they needed to go on tour (indeed the "live" scenes were filmed on their practice set). They couldn't have known that it would then go on to stay at number 1 in the UK charts for 9 weeks but if they hadn't made the video they would have had to appear on the key television music show of the time "Top of the Pops". This involved "live" acts (actually they were generally miming to their hit song) and any group at number 1 would be expected to appear in the BBC studios which would have made touring very difficult to say the least and they couldn't not appear if asked (even if not number 1) because the BBC could make or break a career - they controlled Top of the Pops and Radio 1 the most listened to station for young (record buying) people. Saying no to the BBC was not an option for any band. Queen rather brilliantly squared the circle by creating this video - so they could go on tour, but still appear if needed (as it very much was) on Top of the Pops. The resultant video is pretty good imo if you can ignore the doubtful 70s fashion! I remember watching this as a boy of 8 in '74 and believe me, those were state of the art special effects!

      👉👈
They made an 8D version of the Live Aid concert and if you turn up the volume to about 4 below max volume with my headphones and close your eyes, it's almost like you're actually there.😌
Edit: While I agree on amazing speakers being better, in a lot of cases, a great pair of heafphones, such as mine, and some 8D or 24D audio will also suffice.🤷😅

    • @martinda7446
      @martinda7446 3 года назад +1

@@nerdymusicianfangirl7024 There are some great reasons for headphone performing very well and they do offer a taste of good audio for little money.. they can use small precision drivers which can do a lot of things really well. A single full range drive unit, which is close to the ideal, light weight to instantly react to transients and extend response, easy to drive, easy on neighbours. Cheaper to make a fine headphone than a speaker and a budget set of headphones might be better than budget speakers for sure in many performance aspects they are close to perfect etc..But I have had the finest headphones in the world sitting in a box - and they stay in a box because even if they do some things extremely well they are incapable of some things which are important in communicating a performance to the listener. I am not an audiophile pseudoscientist, there are perfectly good reasons why one can't possibly match the other.
They are wonderful to use outside and on the bike etc. I loved that..blah blah you know what I mean.
If you are buying headphones for your phone or whatever, the most pertinent specification is the sensitivity. Generally with cheaper headphones for portable use look for the highest sensitivity you can find. If there is a 90db/mW and a 106db/mW set the difference is like going from a 20W amp to an 800W amp. Apart from sound pressure levels the more sensitive driver is usually of much higher quality and allows the often crappy phone amps to have a much easier time, it pays all round and often sounds ten times better.

She had that look on her face that I had the first time I heard Bohemian Rhapsody. "What the heck is this?" After listening to it a few times I stopped trying to analyse it and started enjoying it and realised that Queen were absolute masters of their art. A lot of the songs you hear day to day, especially at sporting events, are theirs. Usually you only see something like this once in a lifetime but we were blessed in the 70's and 80's with a lot of amazingly talented people bursting onto the scene. I doubt those times will be repeated. I guess we should be thankful that we have good quality recordings so we can relive those moments.

I was lucky enough not only to grow up listening to Queen and Bowie (first gig was Bowie in 1973 and saw Queen in 1974 and Christmas Eve 1975 at Hammersmith) I was also lucky enough to grow up near where Queen came from, Roger lived in a bedsit in Kew Road Richmond (many years later I found he lived at 220 and my friend lived at 222a and I never bumped into him!) in 1974 my best mate got a job in White Heart Lane Barnes where it seemed Roger moved after he left the bedsit I saw him and Brian leaving his house a few times there was a wine bar at the end of the road 3 years later I got a job there and it seems Roger used to pop in and sold them his speakers they used by this time he’d moved to Windsor and given the house to his sister Claire who used to pop in after work and was a really nice lady. Brian lived round the corner off Barnes Common I used to see him and his wife and young kids at the Barnes fair but never bothered him while he was with his family, saw him at the Feltham Garden Center with his parents once as well (they lived/he came from Feltham) I finally got his Autograph when saw him near there in a McDonalds with his by then grown up daughter. Lastly my friend has just moved to Kensington and found out few weeks ago in 1970 Freddie lived in that road at number 36. I can’t explain what I thought when I first heard this song it was mind blowing, I need to have it played at my funeral along with a Bowie song!

They have head them, they just don't know it was them singing in numerous commercials, movies, tv shows, etc. I think it's safe to say parts of their songs are used in more of these genres than any other band. Not to mention, unless these you people live under a rock and don't watch any sports including the Super Bowl, they don't know we are the champions every time a team wins the title. I could go on.

She's around the age I was when this song came out. I guess it was so revolutionary at the time that my reaction then was considerably more animated. In 1975-1976, we were really blown away by this song. There was nothing like it then, and I don't really think there's been anything like it since. Rush got pretty close to it, but not many have had the talent and vision to emulate it.

An entire opera in one song. One of the classics of modern music. It should be mandatory on high school curricula along with "Stairway To Heaven", "On The Turning Away", "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Imagine".
