I bought a Grizzly 14" bandsaw and also a drill press this past summer. I really enjoy the quality of these products. Personally I like that these tools are god awful heavy and I'm looking to purchase more of them soon to do more of my own personal projects. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks for the review. You've had the entire Grizzly experience. They offer some very capable machines at an inexpensive price. If everything works right, you have a machine that does the job while lacking some of the nicer (but unnecessary) features from a "brand name" maker. On the other hand, when things go wrong, you need to be able to fix it yourself. One of the ways Grizzly cuts costs is by not stocking replacement parts and providing a support team that can repair their equipment. They don't provide the same level of support as traditional vendors because if they did they'd need to charge as much as traditional vendors. For most hobbiests, that's a decent trade off. Grizzly has many satisfied customers who swear by their machines and only a few who swear at them. Buyers just need to understand what they're buying -- including the amount of service after the sale.
Hey Larry, thanks so much for taking from your time to post the updated review....! Didn't expect a tip of the video. Yes, it is very surprising how many aren't aware of the proper way to pour from a container...!
I sorta accidentally pulled out that pin on the indexing wheel, and I think it might be "off" where it was before I messed with it (but only a tiny amount bc I didn't move anything very much). It's now set with the thickest part of the cross-pin pointed to the left and sitting on the high side of the collar, in a groove. The big knob moves freely. Did I screw something up? I've had my G0800 for over a year and never started it bc I'm not sure about that "pin must be pulled out or it can damage the machine" warning label (plus a few other factors). Cost too much to break it , LOL. I appreciate any advice you can give.
I guess you mean the locking pin. I've had to replace mine three times. The whole thing just screws out, housing and all. They are about $10 from griz. Hope that helped, Larry
@@TheWoodWhirler I was trying to find out if by my pulling it out without knowing what it does might have damaged something. After messing with it, the dial is set a little to the left of the 0 degree mark. And is the knob supposed to turn freely?
@@The_DC_Kid, You gonna have to send me a picture of what you are talking about. I don't think we are on the same page. Send it to woodwhirler@gmail.com. Larry
I have to say that I started buying from Grizzly when their only store was in Bellingham as well as the warehouse and tech dept. At that time they had really great customer service. I noticed a sharp decline when they branched out to the East Coast and Midwest. Three or four years ago I bought a 14 inch wood bandsaw and a 12 x 36 gunsmith lathe from them and found their customer service had really declined. Some of the issues were just easier to fix without their help than fight their "never saw that before" attitude. Disappointing as I had rebuilt a eight inch metal lathe from them a few years earlier and their tech dept was nothing but helpful. It makes me unhappy to see such developments as I had been quite impressed with them and bought a lot of tools from them. Seems to be a case of getting too big, too fast where the relationship with the customer goes by the wayside. Take care. Doug
That is a big lathe! Looks like a lathe that gives you what you wanted for a price you were willing to pay. I haven't had to pour from a gallon can but I will be ready when I do. Thanks for sharing. I know how much time it takes to make a video.
With a big lathe, you can turn little work, but, with a little lathe you can't turn big work. That's the reason I went big as I could afford. It is really working out well. I need to review my own video, I can't remember what I said about pouring from a gallon can. Thanks Mike, Larry 10 minutes later, I went back and looked and I didn't remember it because I pour that way automatically anyway.
I give them a lot of free advertising. I did call about them being a sponsor. They said they don't do sponsoring. Too bad I'm pushing 5k subscribers. Take care, Larry
Great review Larry really like the upgrades and hearing the problems and how you dealt with them. didn't expect a review quite so quick. stay busy. George
You get a lot more for the money with the Grizzly G0800. I did extensive research before I bought one. What happened to me was a fluke and they took care of it. Take care, Larry
Is there some sort of leveling system for the legs? I know Robust has a good system as well as a height adjustment. These are way out of my price range, I'm just curious. This video was well done. Thanks for sharing.
Oh no man, I've been turning them out almost weekly. I have 94, about to upload the 95th. ruclips.net/channel/UCcc2eBYsngKeDW8YqG_zc5A. Belt is good. Larry
No,mine's very quiet, just low noise. Your noise could be the spanner nut is too tight, or belt alignment, or bad bearing. I would call Grizzly. Take care, Larry
I've not got it yet, should some be here next week. othrrs have complained about a high pitch, like a dog whistle sound. ..good to know yours don't have it, thanks Chad
I just got off mine and there is a noise, put it's just motor and belt type noise, not loud at all. Here's a link for a guy that did a review about a year ago. His machine has a hum even when it isn't running. That ain't right. I commented to him but he never answered. Check it out and let me know what you think. ruclips.net/video/1ZisoN2JvmQ/видео.html, See ya, Larry
I suppose not when you can get a really great lathe at harbor freight for only a few hundred bucks. I bought a 3/4 hp pile from there about 10 years ago, ($119 I think) and it took me over 2 hours to turn a 36" spindle.
Amazon I believe. Just search for speed control and cut off switch. Sorry I don't remember exactly , it was past yesterday don't you know, Thanks, Larry
I was talking with Harvey through email in China about ordering this same lathe from them, ($2400) but after shipping across ocean and then freight from port I would only be saving maybe a couple hundred bucks. So Ill just order from Grizzly, however Im considering the Laguna 2436 which is the same price but he Grizzly 0800 seems a little better to me and it has the swing away tail stock which the Laguna does not. I think the Grizzly is the better lathe.
I looked at the Laguna 2436 and reached the same conclusion at you. Grizzly 800 give you quite a bit more for the money. It's heavier, 3hp vs 2hp, 48" vs 36" and so on. I like the swing out, but it still gets in your way, especially with long handle tools. Still, a much better deal. Take care, Larry
I have never ordered machinery from Grizzy (other things) but I am not impressed on how they wanted to take care of the issue. They don't have a better relationship with the manufacturer in China? Not good.
Well, I don't necessarily agree with you. I have lots of Grizzy products and am very satisfied. This was an unusual problem I went up the chain and they all told me mine was first and that part was not stocked. I have no reason not to believe them. Now as far as their relationship with Philippines not China, I don't stand that either. They did take the part out of a floor model and sent it to me. Don't let my experience sour you. They actually give you the most bang for the buck than any one else. Take care and thank you, Larry
They said they had never had this problem before, so the part wasn't stocked. But. I got one in a few days, problem solved. That's the only problem I've had and I've had the lathe a year and half now, going strong. You shouldn't have any problems. Take care, Larry

Love the tips! I share it all the time with others! What is the width and gap between the bedways?
8 1/2 X 2 1/2
Excellent video. Nice lathe too.

I haven't had that problem, I found them to be very helpful. Maybe you got a tech on his bad day, try again. Thanks, Larry
Solid review Larry and 2 tips to boot. That's a big bottle of WD, should take care of anything that come your way.

I think people need to know the cons and well as the pros, it's important. Take care and thank you, Larry
Hey there Whirler! How long is the post part of the tool rest? I ordered a equivalent Harvey T60 and want to order longer posts for my sorby rests.
From the top of the rest, they average 10". See ya, Larry
3 in one oil prevents rust better than wd40
It does, but not what I want to use. Take care, Larry
Still don’t know why they discontinue this model there another model they had longer than this and they still got it
Probably lack of sales.
They do still carry parts. Take care
great looking lathe! wish i could afford something like that. thanks for the video
I wish you could too, great lathe, Thanks, Larry
Nice review.
Do you recommend this lathe or wish you had gotten a Jet or powermatic?

Yes each leg has an adjustment. Thanks, Larry
thanks for the tour
You are welcome James, Larry
Larry, it's been a few months since you made the video and I know you had it a while before that. How is the belt holding up?
Oh no man, I've been turning them out almost weekly. I have 94, about to upload the 95th. ruclips.net/channel/UCcc2eBYsngKeDW8YqG_zc5A. Belt is good. Larry
do you get a high pitch noise at low RPM?, if so how bad, is it annoying
No,mine's very quiet, just low noise. Your noise could be the spanner nut is too tight, or belt alignment, or bad bearing. I would call Grizzly. Take care, Larry

The Wood Whirler I talked to grizzly tech, they said sometimes the inverter has a hum at low RPM, so since yours don't maybe they found a fix
Lot of those inverters hum. I wouldn't like it. Mine is a quiet as a mouse. Maybe I'm lucky. About damn time. Take care, Larry
I don't know Larry , I think I would have sent them a bill for doing the repairs' yourself , or made them replace the whole damn thing .
I doubt they would have paid it. Sending it back would have been a major pain in the ass. 767 pounds, better to fix it and move on. Thanks, Larry
Are you still liking your lathe? Not to many people our that have bought one of these.
I suppose not when you can get a really great lathe at harbor freight for only a few hundred bucks. I bought a 3/4 hp pile from there about 10 years ago, ($119 I think) and it took me over 2 hours to turn a 36" spindle.
got my 766 Friday :), where did you get your remote switch
Amazon I believe. Just search for speed control and cut off switch. Sorry I don't remember exactly , it was past yesterday don't you know, Thanks, Larry
This looks EXACTLY like the Harvey T50/T60 lathe. I bet Harvey makes these for Grizzly
It does and I bet your are right. Take care, Larry

Is that Harvey of China?
lol, just realized you changed your name, didn't you use to be the Arkansas woodturner...
Yes, I just tried to get a name a little more unique. Thanks, Larry
I plan on getting the grizzly 766 in a few months glad you see that you like yours
I believe you will like it, Larry
