    I have a dometic cfx 40 and a 1000 lithium. I ran the fridge for aprox. 100 hrs or 4 days on the 12 volt until the low voltage cut off at 10.1 volts. The yeti was at 36 percent battery. Temp was set at 39 degrees. I did pre chill on ac first. Pretty amazing. I will be ordering the regulated cable so i can use the yeti to its full potential but 4 days on its own is a long weekend. Thought i would let everone know. Great video !

    Cool video.
    I did a similar test with my goal zero yetti 400 chained to a 100ah battery so total watts = 1596. I ran the costway 54 qt 12v refrigerator/freezer nonstop at 38 degrees for 72 hours (from the 12v cig lighter port on the yetti) and my system still read 60% power left!! By my calculations I can run it for about 5.25 days! The costway just sips power :-)

    Perhaps you can make a video of both of them on -22C / -7.6F or at least ONE of the compartiments as cold as possible at an enviroment temperature round about 25C / 77F
    Lots of us buy this type of dual-zone systems to use one compartiment for freezing and one for cooling :)
    .... And then... , one will notice it can do a whole lot less hours of cooling With both compartiments on maximum Freezing, it draws 5.7Amps almost continuously on a 12v system.
    Without solar one may be lucky to have the dometic still running lets say engine off from 16.00 than wake up the next day and check the Dometic if it's still running...

    You can set the domestic to shut off at certain voltage/battery levels. This safety measure prevents the fridge from draining the starter battery of a car if using the 12volt cigarette lighter plug to power the fridge. So since you used the 110 plug I bet the yeti stopped providing power to the fridge based on remaining battery time left. (Unless the domestic failsafe works the same way for both plugs) thanks for the test. 👍🏽

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah - it shut off way later than it would have with the 12v so I'm guessing the failsafe is much lower set for the 110 volt. Thanks for watching!

    running off of 12v will save power as the inverter will consume a certain percentage of the battery due to being inefficient. LiPo batteries will last longer if you only charge to 75% and drain to 25%.

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  4 года назад

      Thanks for the tips! And yes, I now have the adaptor that's required to run it off the 12v and it does last longer. If you don't have the adaptor, it shuts the fridge off at 50% power.

  • @Ranger_k16
    @Ranger_k16 4 года назад +9

    that is seriously impressive given the size of the fridge. what was the ambient temp out of curiosity? a couple things, the dometic has low/med/hi power save that senses the incoming voltage to avoid draining your battery all the way. you can now get an adapter an run the dometic off of the DC port which should give about 20% longer life as the inverter uses some power converting dc to ac.

    Thanks fo sharing your test with us. Couple of thing just as to comment on other people is the addition of food could represent the opening and closing of the doors. I would assume that for the majority of this test the doors stayed closed? But anyhow it would be interesting to see how long it would last under ideal conditions ( pre-chilled, full of food/water bottles).
    Also, I’m familiar with yeti just yet can someone explain why you can’t run it on 12 volt. I have conducted a few experiments with my 75DWZ one of which was on my starter battery in 80 degree weather during the day in South Carolina and I was good for about 4-5 hours before the 12 volt dropped below the lowest cut-off setting for the fridge. At night though I would run no problems. Upside is I was still able to start my truck after the fridge stopped.

    • @DoggyU

      You can get more mileage with the 12 volt but the dometic is set up to cut off when a battery reaches a certain level as to not drain a car battery if you're running off that. great to see a REAL test!
    I wonder if you can answer a couple of points I think I've misunderstood from elsewhere: I thought that I heard you cannot charge the GZ through the cigarette lighter? It would seem odd to me if one can't, when other power stations can. Also, I hadheard people say that for a fridge, a 12-volt outlet needs to be regulated. I didn't think GZ was regulated but you might know more about that... Was there any issue at all with the consistency of the power draw?

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  4 года назад

      Hey Linda - you did not hear wrong. You do need a special accessory to charge the Goal Zero from a cigarette lighter while driving. It's approximately $40 - you can see my whole set up while camping/driving here: ruclips.net/video/sTFMTP-IWTQ/видео.html As far as the 12v you are also correct. You do need a regulator though they may fix that on newer models. That is also converted in the above video. Hope that helps!

    Did you ever have a chance to do these tests:
    1) Duration using using DC (12v cig adapter)?
    2) Pre-cooling your fridge in your house to your desired temperature before connecting it to the GZ for the test?
    Thanks!

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  5 лет назад +2

      So on my trip out to CO I used the adapter (from CT) and got about 3-4 days of cooling (I know that isn't scientific but I haven't done a real test for that yet). As far as pre-cooling - the Dometic is pretty heavy to carry myself in and out of the house, so I don't take it out of the van much to run this type of test. It does make a difference when you put already frozen stuff into it before turning it on. Cools down way more quickly! We're buying a house soon so I'll have more availability to run some of these extra tests. Stay tuned!
