Although I was pulling for LSU, I am not surprised that CANADY won it. She was the best pitcher on either team, with greater endurance than Berzon. Berzon was tired. They had kept her in a Regional game for 200+ pitches!! All the 'wanna' juices was drained out of that arm. Couple that with no bats = an LSU loss.
Next year: a new hitting coach? a better pitching coach? For sure more good pitchers. To attempt to go to the WCWS with just one good pitcher is _______ (fill in the blank). Good pitchers can be developed and given confidence for the big game, but it is a gradual process undertaken throughout the season.
Good work, Matt. You give us the reality of the games, and thankfully not just stats. We sincerely appreciate your hard work... especially the replays. There were 4? 5? close plays at home plate? Thanks!
STANFORD won this one.. they scored EIGHT runs... Canady did her part.. and the offense/defense did theirs.
"One good pitcher" has been my complaint about Stanford especially recently, when the #2 keeps getting destroyed. I thought LSU had some good backups, they just weren't used?

Please remember that a baserunner contacting a hit ball passed the pitcher is only ruled out if a fielder was impeded from making a play. So even if there was contact (which is not clear) there clearly was no chance by a fielder to make a play.
Pitcher does not count in that case, but it was passed 1st anyways
I just saw the video. The ball hit her calf and changed trajectory. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
To everyone who does not know the rules, when a ball hits a runner, it is not intereference and not an out if the ball was already past a fielder, and no other fielder had a reasonable play on the ball.
The ball was already past the first baseman when it hit the runner, and the second baseman and right fielder had no shot at it. LSU got run ruled fair and square. Maybe try and score a run next time.
Stop trying to justify the blatant missed call. The runner should have been called out.

The hit ball hit the runners calf and it changed trajectory. Runner out, inning over, still 1-0 and no momentum for Stanford.

It didn't, the ball changed direction. Runner should have been out. That's unfortunate. Stanford took full advantage. Good for them.

The cardinals whipped us. No other way to say it. It is sad it ended like that as it was a very exciting game. That was by far the most runners thrown out from the outfield to home plate I have seen.
