This man makes it look so easy. Im 48 now. I've been listening to country all my life & iv never seen any1 sing like him. He's so playful & funny. Nobody can fill his shoes
This is my all time hero,Roger Miller at his best. He's one of the greatest singer /songwriters and entertainers that ever lived and we are unlikely to see his extraordinary talent equelled in a million years or so.
First album I ever owned was King of the Road. Asked for it for Christmas. I didn't even have a turntable yet! Still love his music and know all the words but not the skat
No kidding man! I put them off... 'cause I could, I didn't relate. Too young I guess. But I couldn't relate to the slowed down or more meaningful, for lack of the real word I need, songs. I'll say, alot can happen in a decade(or 2) that will mellow a man. To the point, he must get honest with himself. And there the man is found... or so I've heard. Gotta go Capt. Kangaroo is on.
This song reminds me of my dad ,better known on the c.b. Channel SKID ROW JOE , he started driving a big rig in 1971 and retired in 2017 ,his dad ,who is my pawpaw henry joe green was also a trucker when everyone show them respect ,he started driving in 1939 when a interstate was not around , pawpaw joe past in 1975 , i was only 6 yrs old , And then i started driving a semi when i was around 16. around 1985 when i was out of school for the summer , Daddy warned me that it was not easy but i didn't listen ,it finely got to me after a fall i took out of a trailer in 2009 so i thank KING OF THE ROAD FITS MY TRADITION THAT IM PROUD TO BE IN, now my baby girl is driving a rig she's loves the road and song also so R.I.P. Mr. Miller "thanks cornbread is out and reading the mail 10-4
Roger was having a good time that night... Watching this here today October 25th, the 29th anniversary of his passing . RIP Roger. We thank you for all that you gave us.
Ever year I got to see my grandma;s sister Armelia ( GRAY ) Miller, and his adopted sister Melva Lorie Miller, but I never got to meet him. Daddy said that Roger called him H , because that was Daddy's middle name ( just H )
Roger miller once said to never keep your pills and your change in the same pocket because he once got mixed up and swallowed 38 cents.. I'm guessing that didn't happen that night because that dude seemed Jolene took all his pills
I'm guessing this would be mid to late seventies. The conductor guy is Delaney Bramlett; half of the husband and wife duo, Delaney and Bonnie, who performed in the late 60's and early 70's with the likes of Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Dave Mason among others.

"Kansas City Star" is my favorite!
On point: exemplary, respected comment!

My right ear absolutely loved this performance
That's what i call a entertainer
The genius of Roger Miller, besides his brilliant wordplay, was that he would go from a silly hilarious jam to a heartbreaking emotional tune
No kidding man!

What a character, I love it! Hard to just call it country music. I hear some jazz in there...
Roger is Great and Delaney Bramlett leading the band is like topping on the cake.

The speaker: A man so talented he has no equal and a man dat so lovelble that he has no enemies. And I think that is the truth.
"We're not gonna try, we're gonna kick ass and do it!" Yup they certainly did!

Love to have heard him in Stereo (not just the right channel only) on this one :( ... Other than that truly fantastic :)
🤗😃🤩😁‼
Delaney was in the way.
@Hazoef that was Wink Martindale if you didn't recognize the voice.
Now that is "skat".
Are ya all keepin" up???
Just notice there's Jerry McGee on lead guitar...
Booboola doodela bing.
What year was this gig please, and, who was / is the band conductor guy ?

What was Mr.Miller on? 😂😂
As if they needed a conductor, where's a band that could follow Roger and knew the songs? That can freestyle along with him?
He did Bugs Bunny!!!
I love Roger but that is a lot of cocaine going on. Wow.
