Agreed! I'm on day 20 of my video challenge and my channel has been sloly growing and I'm getting better at doing this! Having fun is really important! 😊
Allen! Do It!! I'm 44 and it takes me DAYS to figure out the whole video/positioning/recording/editing/splicing and dicing and all that other mess! HELP US, technology is moving so quick and we wanna move with it! 😂
I totally agree with the concept of making a video that smart and fun. I actually figured this out a couple months back when I was making my videos I thought well I want to add value to peoples lives and make the video smart but at the same time, I still wanna have fun and like you said if you’re not having fun, you’re gonna stop making videos so that’s the perfect concept that you came up with or how you label that.
I'm 71, and I've been watching several of your videos, and have learned much from you. I grew up in Iowa, but I have experience with cameras as I was a landscape photographer while living in Kodiak Alaska for many years. My true obsession is with miniatures such as cars, trucks, room boxes (garages) and dioramas. I started a channel a couple of years ago for these and am just now closing in on the 1,000 mark. I'm now back in Iowa with more time to dedicate to the channel. I really want it to grow. Seeing that magical 1,000 number will be quite exciting, but what I really want to see is more viewers enjoying my content and learning from me. One thing that I've learned from watching your videos is that I'd really stopped enjoying the building of the subjects and replaced it with the urgency to make money. Even though what you are doing is not really in line with what I do, especially since I'm on the back side of the camera, and working with miniatures I was able to sit back after watching a couple of your videos, and do some evaluations of myself and my channel, and I decided to embark on a project that is just nothing but fun. The old adage of all work and no play has definite merit here. I have subscribed to your channel and will continue to watch and learn from your videos. As I evolve and grow on my channel, I might be inclined to link to your channel when appropriate. Thank you for all the work you put into helping us to grow our channels. (FYI You don't look a day over 30.)
I just wanted to let you know that I started doing a "video a day" along with you, but for shorts instead of long form. (Still working on long form! Just on a different pace.) It has helped me feel so much more confident in those little skills you talk about in this video. Things like splicing video footage together, doing voiceovers, improving camera angles, etc. are becoming less of a big deal, and I'm able to focus more on the content I can deliver. I can already tell that the long form video in the works now will be much better than previous videos because of all the practice I've been doing in the daily shorts.
Yes I started with short form video too. It's less daunting. And a great way to learn video creation. I'm actually doing a video today on why I stopped making short form content 😍
This video was super helpful! I've been struggling to figure out how to grow my RUclips channel, and these three tips are exactly what I needed. I'm going to start by making smarter, more fun videos and really focusing on understanding my ideal viewer.
Love how you are reviewing other peoples channels and introducing them to us. I go and check them out. 🎉 nice to see you having fun with the new ways ❤
Hiiii Virginia!! Is it ever appropriate to just create two channels for two areas of interest, in your opinion? I have two very clear, distinct, long standing passions and areas of expertise. Both absolutely light my soul on fire and excite me! Is it self-defeating to begin with multiple interests in mind? I am enjoying what you are doing SO much! Looking forward to more. 🙌
I'm learning so much from you, Virginia and always look forward to these challenge videos. ❤ I'm excited about growing my small art therapy channel after taking a long break. I'm committed to posting once a week, as a daily video isn't sustainable from me. Thanks to your help, I'm having so much more fun getting the videos done. I really like how you keep sharing your reasons why for your challenge, it's a great framework. Thank you!
I love this version of you! You have hit on a great balance of being real, sharing value, having fun, and making a community:) love the channel critiques too!
Another great video full of tips. Definitely enjoy the examples of other people’s channels to see where they can grow. It brings the community together and everyone can learn from one another. 🎉
Your channel and all your challenge videos have come along at the right time for me and my channel. I’m doing ok view wise but know I need to implement and learn more about how to make them, and myself, better. I was asking the universe how I can improve and I was answered with your videos. Thank you. I’ll be using your teachings to up the ante and make all of the new and exciting ideas even better 🙏🏻
You are so right, Virginia. I burnt out on my other channel partly because I wasn't enjoying the process. It's time to get organised and jump back into it because I still have a passion for the niche. You are going to love the DJI Pocket 3. Double-tap your face on the screen to engage the Active Track feature. It's awesome! 👍
Yay! So glad you are getting back in the groove. Yes I need to keep playing with it. I accidently stopped recording during this so that's why you saw me talking to it from my phone 🤣
I'm so glued to your YT challenge that I find myself "looking, and watching, and waiting" for your next day video😁😍! Total SUCCESS all the way around! I've even commented more on your channel than any other channel in the whole RUclips Universe! That is saying a LOT to me!! I am learning so much in these short 18 days so far. Soooo, in this video I agree with you, I could use some tips on how to use my phone documenting as I go along for my videos. One regret, I wished I submitted my channel for your review🙁. (Side Note: I was looking for you osmo pocket 3 in your tech store. I'm loving that gadget and want to try it too.)
Hi Saundra! It's not too late! I will be postin ga link to a document to submit for reviews in my next video. YOu are so sweet! Appreciate your encouragement and supportin gme in the comments. I had to buy the Osmo 3 online. It's sold out in stores around here.
You're very welcome, @@ThisIsVirginiaKerr! I will use the link for sure. You truly are the best for what's happening in the immediate climate of RUclips. I'm in steady action mode, in not only this, but in other areas of my life! Thanks to YOU and YT putting your Day 1 Challenge video in my feed❤❤❤!
Oh, please share about your new osmo pocket camera thingy!!! I dont have a camera other than my phone and i briefly looked at this. In your opinion, could that serve as my "camera" instead of investing in a bigger camera like yours? I did order a gimbal for my phone, but haven't opened it yet. Help me decide!!!!
53 here and just started this new channel of mine. I’m enjoying the journey so far and I’m happy I found you. Learning how much from your video. Thank you
That is great information Virginia. I appreciate everything you do and show it is valuable. Virginia you have gone through so much and you’re working through all your pet peeves and trying to get everything resolved. I think you’re doing a great job. Congratulations on this series that you’re doing. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am in my early 50s been on RUclips since 2019 and still not over 1k, know my niche. I do travel vlogs and tip videos. My ideal audience is older couple travelling Europe and Australia(only cause I live here😞) Struggle getting views, but believe it is where God wants me.
I ADORE YOU! I enjoyed your previous videos, but I'm really resonating with your new style! It's easier to digest while I'm juggling my day to day. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep it up! I keep returning to see more!
Thank you Virginia. I'm very happy to have found you, I can't wait to see the video about the pocket camera thing you just bought. I was thinking about getting one too.
Thank you so much for your videos! I really appreciate them. 😀 I recently started my channel over. I wanted to show my Etsy shops (selling mostly Christian/ mama print on demand stuff in one shop & handmade natural skincare for the other shop that's not going yet.) but I don't have valuable/fun ideas for videos for Etsy as a niche and I don't want to create multiple RUclips channels. So, instead, I'm working on food videos (since I love to cook and create recipes) while wearing my shirts, using my mugs, tumblers, and soaps. Then, I will link to my shops. Still slow going, but that's the plan I'm going with. 😂
That Osmo camera is on my wish list! It is so cute and does a great job as well. Thanks for taking us along, showing us what you're learning, AND applying it to different niches. That's the part that's missing a lot in YT advice videos. And if the only channels that are growing are grow your channel channels, then that doesn't bode well for the rest of us!
Hi! I am so glad you popped up as a recommendation! I have just posted my first video, I am 59 and have spent hours trying to find someone who could and would clearly and concisely explain how to navigate this platform & help with content engagement/strategy. The tech side is a major learning curve..thank you for doing this. I toiled with the editing, uploading et al..I am a work in progress with this, but I love my niche ! I will go back to your first video and consume them all! Thank you and it's nice to "meet" you. ;-0
I love how you are giving advice, but applying it to other niches. Most channels that teach how to grow on RUclips never apply the tips to a different niche.
Hello Virginia, I have found a lot of great tips in your videos (thank you for that)but I have a concern and by the comments I am reading I am not the only one. You talk about growing a channel but your experience is only about growing a channel that talks about growing a channel which is a sort of pyramid scheme to me. No offense. Would you be able to offer advice on a channel that covers a different niche, for example I have a travel channel? To edit a video it takes forever because it’s not about recording myself on camera and publishing it. I have to put together all pieces of content from phone osmo pocket, drone and camera and do a lot of editing, recording, choosing the music and making up an interesting story… I am now trying to publish one a day keeping them short and sweet but I am not sure I’ll manage. Do you have any tips for growing a travel channel? I would really appreciate. Ps also like in your example for the organized lady, I have two videos that did really well around 10k views but I cannot seem to replicate the success 😢. Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again 😊
I've never had the thought that I wish you had better thumbnails and chapters in your videos! It just goes to show you can't please everybody, no matter what you do! And maybe that is something you want to work on, but you can't do all the things at once!😂❤
Thank you for more helpful tips. This video doesn't need chapters. It 11 minutes and the pace kept my interest. I put chapters in longer videos. I title the chapters with the main points in the video.
@ThisIsVirginiaKerr I'm currently working on that. I'm watching one of your free training videos. It's so helpful to know all of the do's and dont's. Thank you for that.
I am loving this series! My husband and I have a marriage and family channel…would it be random for me to include a “mom” playlist for practical tips to increase productivity around the house?
This was fun Virginia! Do you always link your external rode audio to your phone or pocket 3 or Sony camera? I use a battery powered recorder and sync to the video. I bought the Parrot teleprompter more than a year ago and never used it so I started using it and can tell it can be helpful but I need to be more “real” or authentic when using it. Sometimes I have fun by using different camera angles or showing me doing something (small). Thank you for the inspiration once again! Russ
Hello Virginia thank you so much for this. I created my channel back in January posted to shorts and then got nervous. I want my channel to be about the my journey becoming a candle maker and entrepreneur, as well as things about me my faith and motivational topics. Is that too much 😊
I used to be random, as my name says. I haven’t been on RUclips for about 3 years due to CFS. So for now I’m going to learn more about my sickness and share with others about it. My husband and I enjoy cooking, so then our second video of the week will be cooking or ordering in. What do you think?
I have so many passions and I think there’s a way that they tie together. How do I come up with that over arching niche? And, is it OK to just post a bunch of different topics in order to see what people are responding to? Should I do that on shorts or in long form?
I have a question for you about my channel: so, I call myself Vegan-Mom and under that umbrella I like to make videos about 3 different topics that all fall under the category "Veganism": 1) Animal Advocacy 2) Health....including the healing power of music, since I am a pianist and musician and piano teacher as well 3) Biblical Reasons that support the Vegan Lifestyle Plus I have a daughter with Down syndrome, who is Vegan and super healthy and high-functioning because of our healthy lifestyle and I have included her in my videos as well. However, including her takes 10 times the time to make a video and that slows my production, but on the other hands it's unique. I don't know if those are too many topics, but I feel that all are so important and they work together as a whole. Can you please give me some advice. Thanks....Daniela
Hi Virginia, thank you for your videos. I’m approaching 2,000 subs and worried about upcoming content getting lost with everyone else’s basic travel tips. I don’t travel much at the end of the year and don’t know if I can tell a story well enough to keep my audience intrigued about travel. My passion is travel but I’ve never talked about my expertise, which is motivation and behaviorism. I studied it and taught it for years as a former teacher and now have my doctorate but have no idea how to incorporate that and just talk to my audience.
Do you like talking about travel? If you do there are plenty of topics you can discuss in your "off season" Your what not to take on a cruise is an example. YOu can also talk about planning, budgeting, gifting experiences..top ten best staycations, hotels, cruises etc. Worst places to...
@@ThisIsVirginiaKerr I do like talking about travel. I like some of those ideas you mentioned. I haven’t thought of those. Thank you. Sometimes we just need a different perspective.
All your tips are so helpful . I had one video with so many more views than others but can’t pin point why so I can keep it up ? I analyze it and still ?
No the smart fun videos are what get you there. Smart meaning they are related to the theme of your channel and help your audience in some way. Fun meaning you are having fun creating them so your personality shines through and your energy makes people want to come back for more 🥰
I started a 15 week challenge 11 weeks ago. I am refusing to spend money on gear until I know if I want to/can do this. They ae brain dumps that I hope make people think.
How can you shoot edit in one day? You have some visuals and stuff.. you need to add background music. And greenscreen stuff like subscribe etc.. it really takes so much time for me.. especially the visuals are like taking 2 days for me.. the research and insert.. but i think that is what is speacial about my account lots of visuals for helping the audience understand.. what would you suggest? Maybe add less visuals?
I just stumbled on this video and I love it. Please let me know if I am doing the right thing. I have a passion for teaching science, especially biology. But I have other interests such as marriage and relationships; business, etc. Do I combine all these into one channel? What do you think? Again, I am a Human Resource Business Partner, a Minister of the Gospel, a lovely father and a Science Tutor. I started recently to create videos. Time is also a setback. I hardly have the time to create videos the way it's burning in my heart.
I love your videos! I want to make shopping videos in Walmart, but was told we need a media license to do so? Because of that, i was scared to try. If you got yours, can you please share how you did, because that would make a huge difference in what i can do. If you didnt need to get yours, maybe i need to figure something out. TIA.
Nsw subscriber..I really liked this one as I'm going through similar myself but think it would be too difficult to pivot my channel. I feel like i need to rewatch your content while forcing myself to upload more fun/vloggy/inspirational content. I need to film now 😂
I love your energy, I love how natural you are, I love how you speak so clearly, and I love your confidence❤. Thank you Virginia for another valuable video. Today’s learning was to stick to my niche giving value to my ideal audience, and not go all over . Can you make a video on how to be good at story telling and share real life stories and experiences naturally?
Hi :-) I just started an art channel like eight weeks ago, and I have three or four people who are my close friends that are very supportive and they’re always in my comments, I think I’ve only received two or three outsider comments since I started. But my views aren’t terrible, I’m just puzzled sometimes by how many people like your video versus how many people have seen it. Filming and editing is not something I ever wanted to learn, but I find it intriguing and fascinating because it is something I never wanted to learn, and it is kind of neat to, see what the apps can do. Right now I’m just using my phone and my iPad and some free editing apps. Trying to stick with one theme that branches out a little bit in related directions. And it’s funny, one of my loyal supporters is always telling me that my camera angle is not right loland it makes me think of all the times I would be thinking something like that while watching a video I’m not realizing how much goes into editing! I really resonated with this video thanks Virginia!
Hi Susan I am from Virginia channel her advice helped me a lot everyday a video if you can and find out who you sending your videos 💚I subscribed your beautiful channel
I'm so tired of trying to be the expert, so now I'm thinking of just documenting but then I feel would it be valuable enough for viewers? I get stuck in between, still trying to figure out how to merge the two, so I can return to YT. (P.S. Don't you get scared driving while filming? Feels risky!)
When you document your journey you have to be mindful of what your viewers may be feeling so you can make sure to express your feelings..that way they relate and then you share your wins and lessons so youre giving them value. I only drive in my driveway and Into my parking place whereever Im going 🤣
Up to you. I would focus on one type of video first before adding others. Live videos are more for your current subscribers. You can certainly do both but it’s about how much time you have to devote to your channel and what your goals are. If it’s growth I would hold off on live videos unless you have time to do both
Agreed! I'm on day 20 of my video challenge and my channel has been sloly growing and I'm getting better at doing this! Having fun is really important! 😊

Thanks again 😊
great advice! thank you🥰
Lots of love (from India) for you and your efforts. God bless you!
Another gem video🎉! Number 3 is my fav tip
Thanks! Yes it’s mine too. It’s what makes it exciting.🙌🏻
I felt like you were having fun.. made me smile.. it’s inspired me to do the same thing. Thanks 😊
Aww yes. If we aren't having fun our audience can feel it and we will burn out.
Thank you! I had no idea you did this. It really helped!
Oh good!!!
I've never had the thought that I wish you had better thumbnails and chapters in your videos! It just goes to show you can't please everybody, no matter what you do! And maybe that is something you want to work on, but you can't do all the things at once!😂❤
Yes! Exactly! Thank you!
Thank you for more helpful tips. This video doesn't need chapters. It 11 minutes and the pace kept my interest. I put chapters in longer videos. I title the chapters with the main points in the video.
Thank you! Appreciate you saying that. Glad you foudn it helpful 😊
@Virginia you make it look really easy
Once you get a clear strategy it gets a lot easier.
@ThisIsVirginiaKerr I'm currently working on that. I'm watching one of your free training videos. It's so helpful to know all of the do's and dont's. Thank you for that.
Hi Virginia another amazing video 💚
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
This video was super helpful! your advice about marrying my expertise with my passions really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing your insights! 🙏
Oh good! It’s so hard trying to figure it out bc you feel like it’s a lifetime commitment but in the beginning you can play with it
@@ThisIsVirginiaKerr it clearly shows that you have the reps under your belt. Can you estimate what is your total no of videos you recorded?
Nice tips. I am still so scared to come in front of the camera. You do it so naturally.
I am loving this series! My husband and I have a marriage and family channel…would it be random for me to include a “mom” playlist for practical tips to increase productivity around the house?
Not at all. That's a perfect sub-theme to your main theme
Superb
I am going to employ some of your tips . I really need connection with viewers . Thank you so much . Keep the good work. I am really inspired.
Love your new style!! We’re getting the same Virginia that’s on our zoom calls!
Thank you! That's the best compliment! That;s my goal!
What zoom calls??!!!!
@@mth355 I’m in her This is Video school and her RUclips school so the zoom calls for those. 😀
❤❤❤Thank you for more content
This was fun Virginia! Do you always link your external rode audio to your phone or pocket 3 or Sony camera? I use a battery powered recorder and sync to the video. I bought the Parrot teleprompter more than a year ago and never used it so I started using it and can tell it can be helpful but I need to be more “real” or authentic when using it. Sometimes I have fun by using different camera angles or showing me doing something (small). Thank you for the inspiration once again! Russ
I love your videos, and im working on chilling for my videos (being relaxed). What's the Final Cut Circle on your head?
Hello Virginia thank you so much for this. I created my channel back in January posted to shorts and then got nervous. I want my channel to be about the my journey becoming a candle maker and entrepreneur, as well as things about me my faith and motivational topics. Is that too much 😊
I used to be random, as my name says.
I haven’t been on RUclips for about 3 years due to CFS. So for now I’m going to learn more about my sickness and share with others about it.
My husband and I enjoy cooking, so then our second video of the week will be cooking or ordering in.
What do you think?
I'm so glad I found this channel... oh and what kind of camera do you use now ?
You’re adorable 😹 Great advice too! 🤍 Thank you!
I have so many passions and I think there’s a way that they tie together. How do I come up with that over arching niche?
And, is it OK to just post a bunch of different topics in order to see what people are responding to? Should I do that on shorts or in long form?
Love it!!! What are you using to hold your camera in the car????
Love this! Haha it’s so accurate.
Thank you! It’s a never ending learning journey for sure!
I have a question for you about my channel: so, I call myself Vegan-Mom and under that umbrella I like to make videos about 3 different topics that all fall under the category "Veganism":
1) Animal Advocacy
2) Health....including the healing power of music, since I am a pianist and musician and piano teacher as well
3) Biblical Reasons that support the Vegan Lifestyle
Plus I have a daughter with Down syndrome, who is Vegan and super healthy and high-functioning because of our healthy lifestyle and I have included her in my videos as well. However, including her takes 10 times the time to make a video and that slows my production, but on the other hands it's unique.
I don't know if those are too many topics, but I feel that all are so important and they work together as a whole.
Can you please give me some advice.
Thanks....Daniela
Yes, I would also like to hear what she thinks!😊
No answer, yet.
I should, I should, I should... Says who? I like your videos so much and I like how you choose your own pace and path.
Thank you!
All your tips are so helpful . I had one video with so many more views than others but can’t pin point why so I can keep it up ? I analyze it and still ?
When we have that huge audience we can make that smart fun video ..
Whats an osmo pocket? Is that a recording camera? Would love to know!
Your thumbnails are fine. I don't care about chapters. I personally have 3 RUclips channels to separate topics.
Thank you!!
I love how the dude behind you in the grocery store has no care in the world, that you're hunched over talking to the Chips Ahoy Cookies! LOL
The inspiration I get from your channel is 😢. Why would anyone not subscribe and hit the notifications.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful ❤️
I was waiting for someone to stop you in the store, "Hey, I used to love you on the news!" 🙂
the classic phone on the chips ahoy shot by the pocket 3 LOL. Here for it. SAME. Except it's fertilizer. ;)
I always look forward to seeing your videos Virginia. I learn something with each one!
Aww thank you!!
I love your videos! I want to make shopping videos in Walmart, but was told we need a media license to do so? Because of that, i was scared to try. If you got yours, can you please share how you did, because that would make a huge difference in what i can do. If you didnt need to get yours, maybe i need to figure something out. TIA.
Well I don't ask permission. I also don't make it obvious and I'm pretty fast. I do my shopping first and then find an empty aisle.🤣
What was that you were holding in the Grocery store? Another camera? Guess I'm a bit slow but didn't quite catch it.
yes it's the vlogging camera I talked about when I was in the car right before I went in.😀
Nsw subscriber..I really liked this one as I'm going through similar myself but think it would be too difficult to pivot my channel. I feel like i need to rewatch your content while forcing myself to upload more fun/vloggy/inspirational content. I need to film now 😂
Welcome! I try to alternate. One that will attract a larger audience, then one with a more personal angle to connect with my community.
Yes it can be a lot. That’s why I try to keep it simple and add bits of extras as I go. Keep having fun! That’s the key to sticking with it 😊
Hi Susan I am from Virginia channel her advice helped me a lot everyday a video if you can and find out who you sending your videos 💚I subscribed your beautiful channel
@creativesolutions902 I just subscribed to your channel. You are talented!!
@@AmysSewingRoom oh thank you so very much! I really appreciate it❤️🙏
I'm so tired of trying to be the expert, so now I'm thinking of just documenting but then I feel would it be valuable enough for viewers? I get stuck in between, still trying to figure out how to merge the two, so I can return to YT.
(P.S. Don't you get scared driving while filming? Feels risky!)
When you document your journey you have to be mindful of what your viewers may be feeling so you can make sure to express your feelings..that way they relate and then you share your wins and lessons so youre giving them value. I only drive in my driveway and Into my parking place whereever Im going 🤣
How do we sign up for the channel reviews?
I'm going to post a link to a document in my next video so I can collect them in one place.
What about doing live videos straight into RUclips? Is it better to upload or do it live or both?
Up to you. I would focus on one type of video first before adding others. Live videos are more for your current subscribers. You can certainly do both but it’s about how much time you have to devote to your channel and what your goals are. If it’s growth I would hold off on live videos unless you have time to do both
Thanks so much @@ThisIsVirginiaKerr
