  • As the final video in my minimalist phone series and personal challenge, I show you what is on my minimal iPhone 5s. Taking what I have learned from 9 months using a flip phone, I've managed to figure out a way to use a smart phone in a way that isn't distracting or time-wasting.
Have you ever tried dumbing-down or simplifying your smartphone?

Found from Reddit!! I actually have an iPhone 13 mini. I like it because it’s small enough for me not to worry about it being too overwhelming and plus I don’t use it as much.
I had the iPhone 8 for a while until I upgraded and I’m glad I did. I use my phone as a tool most times, if I feel like disconnecting I get on my iPad- it doesn’t last long

Hey!! The size of my iPhone 5S was a factor for me too. Using your phone as a tool is so key as if you are not careful the phone can make you a tool in return - thanks for watching KJ 😊

This is such a refreshing video! I've been fantasizing about switching to a flip phone and when I told my husband, he was like, "Why don't you just delete the apps on your phone?" And I hate to say that it NEVER occurred to me before even as I struggled with my attention span and feeling addicted to my phone. Locking yourself out of the app store is so smart; I will have to do that next. I have been afraid of caving and re-downloading apps. Treating the phone as a mere tool shouldn't be such a revolutionary concept yet it feels like it is at this point in our society! And I am old enough to remember when my phone literally was just a tool with the basics. I miss those days so much and I am going to actively choose to live that way again.

Thank you so much. This has been life-changing. I'm using Lineage OS which gives me even more control over what I can disable. (Anything google) I also tried Ubuntu touch, it's a great minimal os but no rcs support because google.
I'd love a slider phone but they're hard to find these days, so a minimal smartphone like in the 2000s has been perfect for me.

I highly suggest you upgrade to something like an iPhone 13 mini. iPhones like the 5s are already years out of support. Getting an iPhone 13 mini or even an iPhone 12 mini is a great option since it’s small and compact and smaller phones would make things less distracting since you have to deal with a smaller screen. An out of date iPhones can be vulnerable to attacks against you. Also the iPhone 13 mini could
Probably be the last mini iPhone due to sales since people rely on smartphones more then before a people prefer a bigger screen. What’s great about iPhones is that they are known for supporting updates more then their some of their competitors and that can ensure you can get the most out of it. I would also say that holding your phone until it ends support is a great way since you would be using it for just your essentials and that iPhones are pretty reliable due to their support of updates and that an typical iPhone user upgrades their phone way more often even though iPhones while being grate phones aren’t to much of a reason performance wise to update or at least noticeable. And upgrading less often can reduce e waste reducing rare materials being used. Also apps can only update for so long before they can go obsolete so an out of support iPhone can stop working due to the IOS version of it .

For me it was mostly about removing social media from my phone - this made it less addictive. Thanks for watching!

Siri was the first to go on my iPhone 5 and iPhone SE (Original model). 👎 I've never had to remove social media apps since they weren't pre-loaded on my phones.
