    Really appreciate your love and dedication for maintaining your collection. As a musician myself I feel like people don’t understand how important it is for guys like you to archive these recordings and take care of them. The resources you’ve amassed are so important for future musicians!! Stay up!

    Great video. I love Johnny Rivers. After collecting hundreds and hundreds of albums, some years ago my dear wife of 45 years made me “get rid of them” with the advent of CD’s. By then, the turntable was broken, LP’s were impossible to come by, and peace at home was and is important. (Some people’s clutter is other people’s treasure.) Luckily, most went to my sons who kept them safe. I also inherited many from my father who bought them in the early 50’s when he first came to this country from Ireland. Mom and Dad loved to dance naturally so most of his Jazz albums were the great swing bands of the Duke, the Count, Chick Webb, Benny Goodman, etc. (Dad also had many other great LP’s - Irish rebel songs and American folk songs, especially Paul Robeson and Pete Seeger both of whom he revered).
    Anyway, now I collect LP’s from thrift shops for my sons. Four recent finds, all originals and in great condition):
    1. Afro-Cuban Jazz Moods, Dizzy Gillespie and Machito. $4! I love Latin Jazz. (A heresy - I think Tito Puente’s version of Take Five is better than the original, and I love the original.)
    2. Donald Byrd, Byrd in Flight. $7! (with Hank Mobley and other greats. Hank’s albums are sort of my holy grails of record store foraging).
    3. Mary Lou Williams Presents the Black Christ of the Andes. $11! This one is special to me not just because Mary Lou Williams would always be in my list of top ten pianists of all time but also because my father’s family had a great devotion to the subject of the album, St. Martin de Porres, an Afro-Peruvian saint. When he returned from his parents’ funerals in Ireland (they died in their 90’s within three days of each other) the only keepsake he brought back to Brooklyn was a small old plaster statue of St. Martin.
    4. Van Morrison, Astral Weeks. $6! love just about everything Van the Man has done. It was great to find this on an LP.
    Speaking of Donald Byrd, when he formed the great R&B group The Blackbyrds, their song Walking in Rhythm remains one of my all-time favorites. Ah to be young again, speeding on the highway blasting that song!

    These are some great finds, and I'll check some of them out. I will say Mercy Mercy Mercy) isn't my favorite song by the Buckinghams. I like (Kind of a Drag). Every time I hear that song, it puts me in a certain mood that makes me feel like I'm feeling what's going on musically in that time period.👍

    It was announced today that the great Quincy Jones has died. I'm sure you'll have lots of thoughts on this, perhaps good for a video? Thank you!

    Hey, Kenny! Great finds. Especially love the Dave Brubeck "Take Five" for $6! Great find. And that copy of "Yesterday and Today" ~ that's a piece of history! I remember when that came out, and everybody was soaking off the paste-on cover to reveal the "butcher" picture ... man, those were the days. Watching your video reminded me that I've got a Capitol re-issue of this album in mono, with the butcher cover and blue translucent vinyl! Have you ever seen one like that?

    not being a collector, I am unwilling to fight against the tremendous population in my area on just hope. my last thrift store buy was a pristine looking album featureing a real cute looking Linda ronstat on roller skates on the cover. Took it home, very eager to play it, and inside was "a statler brothers Christmas." now I pay to let a record store curate what I flip through.
    big Jhonny rivers fan here . he's like the real Elvis, except for the tall dark and handsome part.

    Kenny: Great review. But I would not label Al Hirt as under-rated. At least not in N.O. and probably in general. A great trumpet player. Agreed: It's hard to find discount store recordings any more.

    • @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews
      @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews  22 дня назад +1

      With all the hype and attention going to other trumpet players like Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Luis Armstrong, Lee Morgan, Wynton Marsalis, Thad Jones (I can name more), Al Hirt does not get the proper attention in my opinion, consequently I think he is underrated.

    Can you make a video on Nat King Cole, you put him as #2 male singer of all time. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the albums you have of Nat ❤ my favorite album of his currently is The Touch Of your Lips, I'd like to hear your favorite also.
