Hello. I want to transmit on 80 meters with a garbage antenna since my yard is small. Can I use this emergency mode and get some power out without frying the radio? How bad can it get if the I don't care if the output is like 2 watts or whatever, or if I have to set the radio power with emergency mode to like 20 watts or something, but I really do not want to fry my radio finals and I want to expirement with antenna designs without worrying about my radio breaking. Thanks!
So what is the intent of Emergency Mode? Does it allow you to work, say, in an earthquake zone on half an antenna? How far can you get out on half power into a compromised antenna, and does it make the radio overheat the finals after some extended use?
You're stuck with only a nonresonant antenna in an emergency because the earthquake destroyed your tower and all you can put up is a broken Yagi. You want to get a signal out, but your radio won't transmit because of a high SWR. What do? Emergency mode. Now, you're transmitting SOME power. Maybe 1 watt or 5 watts getting out from 50w in. Enough to give you a reasonable chance of getting a message out.
Here is a question....how do you change ssb modes at Will.....it keeps defaulting on the band you'll in....I need to be able to change it at Will...USB to LSB..in a flash
It's just touchscreen. Touch USB or LSB or CW, whatever is displayed, and it should toggle or bring up the menu, and touch the one you want to TX on and there you go. Hopefully this helps.
@@mrjones6770 Hmmm. Maybe it's strictly according to the band plan. USB for above x Freq, LSB below x Freq. etc. It's my brother's radio. I'll let others comment. 73
@@mrjones6770 Click SSB, and then it will say USB Or LSB. If you go back to the menu and click SSB again I think it should flip between USB LSB and USB-D LSB-D.I think. By the way, USB-D and LAB-D are the same but less audio processing so it dosen't break digi signals with random audio processing effects.
Nice feature of the radio. Thanks, Dave. 73, AC3HT
Thanks again Dave👍
HELLO DAPPER DAN, CHECKING IN. bk2,pg.57,pa2
That's good to know stuff right there! Thanks Dave!
Thank you, Dave. N0QFT
Wow. That is quite useful. Nice to know. Thanks. W1ETI

Can extended use of Emergency mode damage the 7300?
Icom-R7000 your thoughts on getting this for my first HF radio?
The R7000 is only a receiver, not a transmitter
Encore une super vidéo. 73/F8MGW
But what is the radio actually doing (abusing itself? expanding a range?) besides running at half power?
It will transmit with a worse antenna match than it would usually allow. Limits power so it can handle the greater mismatch

Wider tuning, allows for a worse match, limits power to not burn stuff out

@@hedrickwetshaves1997 ...I don't see an option for LSB or USB....only SSB and other modes such AM FM CW DATA.RTTY
I know it's touch screen....I just don't see separate LSB or USB....only SSB.
