I work in a mostly black middle school. The black kids touch my hair. If we are in the bleachers, someone might start messing with it. Or in a crowded hall. Little kids will come up to hug me but then start messing with my hair. (Funny!) When I get flyaways, they want to fix it. (No, sweetie, that gel is too heavy for my hair.)Or they will want to braid it. (No, darlings, braids do not look good on me!) It is just different. It feels different. It is also probably because they are middle schoolers. They monitor hair, nails, clothes. You cannot be hypersensitive and work in middle school.
No shit. I BRIEFLY dated a guy who was obsessed with my hair and other women's hair. Always wanted to comb it and touch it. He wound up creeping me out, and that relationship did NOT end well. Growing up I had a number of friends of color. I never knew anything about racism. I had never had a problem being friends with any race. It wasn't until high school that I learned people judged people on their color. I couldn't understand. My parents didn't teach me to judge others. We were raised to treat everyone the same. It was normal for my mother to have friends of different races over. She worked and was over all types of people and treated them all the same. My cousin learned this the hard way. She got hired where my mom worked. My mom was her boss. My cousin thought she could come in late, call in sick and slack over. She fired her ass. My cousin begged her not to. My mom told her to gather her things quickly or she would have someone throw her out. My mom didn't put up with shit and didn't care who you were. You could be the President. If you didn't do your job she would let you know what she thought. Everyone got the same treatment. You did a good job, she told you. She was good to those who worked under her. She would do anything for them. She wanted respect and she gave it. When she died I heard so many people say this she didn't care what race, sex or who you were she treated you fair and with respect and would do anything for anyone. They also said she was crazy as hell and spoke her mind. If management wanted to do something that was asinine she told them. Then she explained why. God, I miss her. Trump would have drove her insane. She would have been arrested trying to tell him what a damn idiot he is. I can hear her now. Are you out of your damn mind? Did you fall out a tree, roll down, then get run over by trucks for an hour and then get up get kicked in the head by a jackass repeatedl because no one is born as stupid as you are. It's time you left, you are going to drive me to lose my mind and I'm going to snap and beat you to death.
That's a really sad story. Why isn't more being done about cops? I had a traumatic event on Monday where a cop got confused which house he was at and came to the victims house and started screaming and making threats because the person that called the cops was a minority and he couldn't get through his head the minority could be the victim. It was a really scary and alarming event we are still trying to figure out how to address. Scared my daughter.

I believe that the best way to remove our prejudiced impressions against any group of people is to have them as a friend-- to actually know them as a person and not judge them solely by their labels or every stereotypes that comes with that label: whether they're "black/ white/ asian/ muslim/ christian/ lgbtq/ etc. etc." . Let's respect one another and our differences :D

I don’t care what colour my friends are. I do have a couple of black friends, but they aren’t my friends because they’re black. They’re my friends because they are awesome people, as are my white friends. She’s not wrong about white people being viewed as individuals, where black people often aren’t.

Despite all the shit flying around in the US because of terrible race relations, I am still jealous about the diversity that you guys have there. In many of your cities, workplaces and schools you have the kind of variety in life experiences and backgrounds that has the potential to enrich the lives of every single person living in those communities. There are so many perspectives, so much cultural understanding and opportunities to learn from others. A person like me, who happens to live in a ~95% white country (Finland), does not have that. For us, having a diverse group of friends means bonding with our Swedish speaking minority, who are bilingual anyway, lol! We do have refugees from Somalia, Kosovo, Syria etc. and other immigrants, but it’s a relatively new phenomenon that anyone would like to move to such a cold, dark and introverted place, so different ethnicities have not really mixed. We have some of the best public schools in the world, which everyone attend and where everyone ostensibly is on the same line, but already in high school and definitely in college paths diverge strongly. You are hard pressed to find any black people in our top universities (if you do, chances are they’re exchange students) or white-collar jobs. So unfortunately for a college grad like me, there aren’t many black, Asian etc. people just hanging around in places, where you would naturally meet them and make friends. I would love to meet and be friends with people, who genuinely come from different places and walks of life. Without a going great lengths to making black and other friends (especially during Covid-19), I am not very likely to make any. Too bad, would really like to, though! Be proud of your diversity, America. Embracing it is worth the fight!

Wanda is a pro! She is as smart as she is hilarious
"We're black... but we're green" ♼ 😀
"I hope you get sickle cell" got me cracking up😂😂
“Let’s get *BLACK* to business!”
Not too fast though. This is the era of coronavirus.
I loved this one.
Shop black businesses online.
@@worshipcatalyst1 Definitely. I'm glad many RUclipsrs are promoting black owned brands. Too bad in my country it's such an impossibility.☹️☹️
CMON!
Oh.
“He shoulda called me”! Hilarious.
I had a Black Boyfriend in Texas. In the 1970’s!!! He was the best guy I ever dated. We still talk to this day. And he still mentions how scared he was when my stepdad caught us in my bed. But he STILL speaks to me! That’s how cool a Black friend can be.
She's one of the most intelligent people in the entertainment industry in all seriousness.
Never touch any woman’s hair!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
No kidding.
That's what I thought....Then I thought, how many times have people tried to touch my hair?
If you have to tell a grown man not to touch any woman's hair in public, there is a problem. I told him one day some poor unsuspecting woman's boyfriend was going to kick his ass.
Gentilly Girl OMG 😳 he needs therapy or something!
Wow. She blew me away. Lol funny and heartbreakingly earnest. One of the best stand up pieces I have ever witnessed.
She's right! I'm so white and since I moved to this area everywhere I go is white! I didn't know places like this still exist. If it wasn't for the Internet I'd start forgetting what other skin tones look like. Its so weird
I love my Black friends - the people who fed me a lot of jollof rice, sang and danced with me, went to church with me, people who I’ve worked with in healthcare, the ones who always get my jokes and loved me for who I am ❤️
Amen Brother!!!
Nigerians I gues😁😁
Jollof rice? They must be Nigerians 😊
Ishioma Okolo I have a lot of Black friends from different countries- some are from the USA, Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique, Kenya and Jamaica
@The Sir Dean Experience You are one lucky guy to be able to see the world through so many eyes.
The world needs Mrs. Sykes. Desperately.
Erica Brown, “Ms”, I think. Ms Wanda’s wife is maybe a Mrs. I love her comedy! Very cool woman!
@@traekas7228 lol, good point. she is the Ms., wife is the Mrs. Haha, got it. Thanks!
Not always the villain! Like all Denzel movie, he's the hero 😁
My son in law is a black security guard... now I am scared for him. He is a great guy
I wouldn't worry about it. Many of the typically used scenarios are uncommon.
Some scenarios are though so watch out
Tell him if he survives this, he's Secret Service Material.
mrscary3105, not to worry. It's a bunch of bullshit that's overblown by race baiters in order to make it sound like black people getting shot by police for no reason is common. First of all, it isn't. Second, when it does there are plenty of behaviors on display that are consistent with increased risk of getting shot, such as resisting arrest. Seriously, if you never resist arrest and just cooperate with a police officer your chances of getting shot are next to zero.
Wanda Woman reminds me of all the best black people I have had the pleasure of knowing !!! " Because what's real is really, really, real " (N.G.)
God Bless you !!!
I'm going through a Sickle Cell crisis and I burst out laughing at that last joke. Lol!
Praying for you right now 🙏🏾
@@aaliyahd5303 thank you
She is so on point - Black people aren’t viewed as individual and unique as anyone else - allowed to be as eccentric and varied and quirky as anyone else.
"Hey, Denise! I'm almost there!" Oh my god, does anyone seriously do that?!
"we're black but we're green" ...i choked 😂
I love it. Let's get Black to Business!
The security guard she talkin about lived on my block
Brilliant, insightful and very, very intelligent!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh, yeah, and TRULY FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"I'm almost there!" made me spit out my water.
She tells it like it is. LMAO.
I adore Wanda and everything about her. Her messages are ones, everyone needs to hear. I've seen all of her stand up. And the movie; Monster In Law? She made that movie. It would've flopped without her!!!
“Hey Deniece, I’m almost there...”😆😆😆😆😆😆
I just love to hear Wanda. She's great!!
You are so funny! Thank you especially in the lockdown! You made my day!
Is she the photo negative of Betty White?
Nope
Joe Towers, Somehow, I doubt that. Both good people, great Performers. But, Betty W seems so innocent/naive to me. And Ms Wanda, while she does somewhat family friendly shows, she is more of an expert at Reality, imo.
This seems to be a recounting of my innermost dialogue during points from several family holiday visits: deja-vu every few lines.
Love this woman, she is the funniest lady I know!!
I can hear the Chris Rock influence in her cadence and her phrasing. She's amazing!
Great Observation! She served as Rock's opening act on one of his tours back when she was writing & appearing in sketches on the classic hbo show " The Chris Rock Show". Ms. Sykes is amazing on stage with a mic & like Rock- her social commentary will have you thinking & laughing at the same time.
My guy I live in northern Canada. I’ll make friends with a black person if any of them move here
Its the same here in Minnesota.
Same in western canada. My best friend growing up was black and shes 1 of 2 black people I've known my whole life.
its cold there
Same, where I am in Canada we don't have many black people. I love everyone. I think it's too cold up here.
Antony Andrewson I know it’s cold up there, that’s not the point
Can't believe someone typed their whole life story in RUclips comments. 🤦🏾♂️
@@jashinslayer I enjoyed the story. No one made you read it!
@@jashinslayer what's it matter to you?
Wish more parents raised their kids like your parents did.
@@jashinslayer 😡
That's a really sad story. Why isn't more being done about cops? I had a traumatic event on Monday where a cop got confused which house he was at and came to the victims house and started screaming and making threats because the person that called the cops was a minority and he couldn't get through his head the minority could be the victim. It was a really scary and alarming event we are still trying to figure out how to address.
Scared my daughter.
She channels Chris Rock without stealing from him.
I love this comedian.
She is funny!
She wrote for Chris Rock. He's the one channeling her sometimes.
@@luisa9628 Ms. Sykes wrote & appeared on the classic " The Chris Rock Show" not his stand up. As a matter of fact she toured for a time as his opening act. I'm in full agreement with the 1st comment. Her live energy & pacing in her shows is reminiscent of Rock while showing off her genius at the same time.
“It’s scary” - gets me every time 🤣
That awkward moment when you don't have friends at all... 😂
I can listen to her all-day long
Hell nah don't touch my hair. Energy is everything !
This is SO "20 Something Better" but even cooler! LOVE IT!!!
I didn’t know that there is a part of a head/hair called a “kitchen”, til I had a black friend.
The nape area...
What terrifies is that your statement is the most unifying and inclusive statement in this thread, and no one has liked or commented on it because they all chose to comment on how many black or white friends they have. Such a sad thing to see racial progress dissolving right before our eyes.
Dude, if I can just get a friend at ALL, I consider it a win XD I'm too socially awkward to be making friends unless I meet them online!
Me : " hey wanda"
Wanda : " yeah?"
Me : " Sykes!"
Sorry.
I can't believe people still do that. Lol
From the 50's. Some things never change.
We are supposed to be social distancing...and ppl STILL try to touch my hair. it's so soft, has so much body, how do I get it to do that?? 🙄😬😉
You too, I get that a lot followed by the words well you're not really black. The joke she did about the tan. My former coworkers used to do that with me but he would tell everyone that I was lighter than him 😆.
@@portiamatthews9654 wow
@@IS33U yes it's the truth. My secretary who was an older white woman just had to touch my hair. Her response was on my it's so soft and beautiful, what do you do to get it like that. I responded by saying shampoo and conditioner. LoL. They think all black people hair is short, kinky and oily.
The other annoyance is how black people react to my hair. Asking questions such as is that a weave, wig, and what kind of relaxer do you use . Actually they'll say perm.
I don't have a black friend 😢 But then again, I don't have friends 😀
Margaret Chiloquin lol same not one friend!
Me neither🤔
I will be your friend 😁
Whoooo lawd that's sad!!
Thanks for this 😊 I’m really enjoying the content you guys are putting out.

1 of the better female comics. She definitely a legend
As a guy, any time another dude says "no women are funny" I refer them to Wanda. Check and mate
Wanda, always hitting the nail on the head!

You must be gay.
Soulof must be constipated lol
Wanda, I moved to Louisiana a few years ago and was completely oblivious to fact that people of beautiful color here don't want a white friend. Even heard one of my neighbors Mom's ask her, "Why you talking to that white girl?".
I don’t care what colour my friends are. I do have a couple of black friends, but they aren’t my friends because they’re black. They’re my friends because they are awesome people, as are my white friends.
She’s not wrong about white people being viewed as individuals, where black people often aren’t.
Wanda Sykes is the voice of reason, and I like all of her stand-ups.
I always loved this lady.
It is disgusting the precious Security Guard was shot! God Bless his Family. 😇 deb in SC
I freaking love Wanda lmfao
Wanda Sykes is legit my hero.
Wanda has always been funny, but too frequently hampered by some sit com. Pays the bills, but doesn't allow for much creativity. Great to see her kickin some ass!
I agree. Her comedy Central special like 20 years ago was fucking great.
I think no matter where she shows up she brings a certain can we be real here quality that shows a whole nother side to perceptions.
Don't ask Black people too many personal questions like at work, unless we are friends with you. It feels like interrogation. It's historical.
Wanda, you are so right! I agree with you 100%! Not only right but funny too! Thank you for the share! ♥️
Wanda is fking amazing...sharp wit!!! More like razor sharp!!🤩😄😂
She's so awesome. Wanda Sykes is one of my favorite comedians of all time.
Thank you, we needed all the laughs in these perilous & unfavorable times
Much laughter is warranted and good for one's internal organs and good medicine, lol

Her idea/joke about marketing reminds me of Frederick douglass's portraits
