Just bought a pair of Tech Leather GTX as a pair of general 3-season mountain boots. According to the LS website they're a little stiffer than the Tech GTX, can't wait to get them. Love my Nepals and G5s so hoping I love these as much.

Extremely helpful video thanks. I'm very keen to get a pair of the Techs but I"m in New Zealand and we can't get them here. I can get someone to send me a pair from the US but not being able to try them on first is an issue. In terms of fit, are any of the other options like the Tower, etc, or even one of the hiking boots like the TRK similar enough to the Tech so that I could try them on and be fairly sure that the Tech in the same size would fit? (I've got pair of TX4 mids which are great but I dont know how similar they are to the Techs).

are the trango tech GTX's good for a first general mountaineering boot, or should l look for something stiffer/more robust? I wonder how secure crampons will be on such a flexible sole.

It would seem a review of ANY mountain boot should ALWAYS include a demonstration of the flexibility of the sole. Push down of the sole vertically by putting the shoe on its nose and pressing down hard. The talk about the "amount of upper material" is somewhat nonsensical, as it fully depends on precisely naming the material and it's function. Further pertinent information for a mountain boot review WOULD be: which widths of the boot are available in which sizes, are they only available in unisex or differentiated for men and women, how wide are the standard soles at a few standard sizes, are the models available in a goretex and non-gortex version, are the soles replaceable, which mountaineering category do the boots belong to, do they have specific thermal layers, if so - which, how are those rated, etc, etc. THIS type of review is very superficial and just seems to be repeating the marketing pamphlet, with no REAL insights given.

We completely agree! You are absolutely correct, thank you for your comment. These videos are filmed at the outdoor industry trade shows (most of them are shot at Outdoor Retailer) and are of new products that typically are not released yet. As such, we typically have never seen the products before and are relying on the company representatives we're filming to explain the products as best they can. As you can probably imagine, it can often be challenging to get people to talk in-depth about products that are brand new (often the people that are being interviewed have only just seen the products for the first time that week because they're aren't yet in full production). We'd love to have access and time to do deep dives into each and every new product, but alas, for now we are focusing on trying to provide information as to the new products on the market that people may not be aware of. In the case of this video, since we access to La Sportiva and all the boots they have available in the U.S., we thought it might be helpful to have them discuss what the differences and similarities are between their extensive lineup. Sorry we didn't meet you expectations, I hope in the future we can get the resources to do what you are suggesting. Thanks again for your reply.
