This 1960 Gibson ES-345 was converted from stereo to mono and had the Varitone circuit removed but retains it's original PAF pickups. A phenomenal playing and sounding 345 this cherry red beauty shines with Joey Landreth's unique play style.
Joey plugged this guitar into a 1962 Fender Deluxe. The amp was close mic'd Cascade Fat Head BE. The room was mic'd with a Zoom H6N.

Out of all of Joey Landreth's demos from Carter's, this is my favorite. It's a beautiful instrument, and he gets every bit of coolness out of it.
The middle position sounds really great on this guitar

are referring to. Joey Landreth grew up in Manitoba and has a band with his
brother David, The Bros. Landreth. Their father, Wally, was a working musician
around where they grew up, however, and was a local legend as a guitar
player and song writer. You can google all the, as I did because I was curious
about a connection. Landreth is not a name you see or hear of every day.
Joey does sound tremendous, for sure.
Joey is an astounding player, but, more than that his style also allows the guitars to speak with their own personalities too. That's pretty rare. Lots of the demo guys I find tend to end up with fairly homogeneous tonal results.

@nikitikitano Yessir. MUCH agreed. It's just that my health has not been so good for several years ... But I'm working on it ...
I've got one of these but I its still stereo. I think these gems are quite often overlooked in preference for the 335. I can't play like Mr Landreth can though.

question: does Joey improvise all these demos? I mean, he's an amazing player ... but if he's playing this on the fly, I'm selling my guitars and taking up the triangle!
Ha! I asked him when he came in last how he goes about demo'ing gear and he said he has some idea where to start but he's really just flying by the seat of his pants so to speak. Pretty awesome talent

I hear you there. After 40+ years at this game, I'm definitely not going to grow up and get a real job. If anything, seeing a player that absolutely floors me, just makes me put away my guitar for a short time, and lets sharpen up my skills on one of the other instruments that I play. When I get back to my guitar, I look at it as a whole new instrument.

Can anyone explain why do I like 345s more than 335s while they are essentially the same guitar if you don't engage the rotary thing?

Landreth also has been seen with an arsenal of pedals. And who knows what happens to sculp the sound after it passes thru the mic. Getting those tones live at nondeafening sound levels???

@@steveb9325 Sorry to be so long. I was making a "funny" as he never took the Varitone knob out of the FIRST position, which is essentially a 335, rather than demoing all the tones the Varitone can produce; and on a sort of serious note, this is apparently, a mono version, also like a 335, perhaps made prior to the stereo split of the pickups. I have a theory that The Ventures' first hit record, "Walk Don't Run," was played on rhythm, on a 1960 mono ES-355 version. I am blessed to have a 1974 ES-355 version. Hope some of that is helpful ...
Actually, I see that the Varitone switch has been neutralized, so all he could do is play it like a 335. Darn fine sounding axe, of course, regardless!
