Oh I am really looking forward to this. Most people just don’t really understand how many conveniences we have that we don’t even think of as “conveniences.” They’re so integral to life it can often be unimaginable to live without them! If nothing else, watching this will undoubtedly remind me to have gratitude for plumbing and electricity while I am able to have it.

Summer is the best and easiest time to live off grid in Alaska.
I grew up there, in the remote Bush, in the 60s.
Summertime is all about life and storing up for the long, dark winter. But, hey, the the summer itself is short, God provides abundant hours in each of those days.
    Good hunting ❤

I lived, for a while (thankfully), without electricity and running water. Me, my mom and my siblings. It was Not fun and it did Not make me a better person. More knowledgeable, Yes but not better. Everything was dirty and it wasn't like we could just run a bunch of water to clean things up. We just lived with it. We sponged small dirt spots of our clothes and waited until we could get to the laundromat. We had tadpoles in our (once per week) bathwater and hauled our drinking water, 5 gallons at a time, from a faucet in a state park . It makes for great stories now, but living it was not fun.

Alaska is a lot like northern Canada and the Yukon especially. It's a way of life many are not prepared for nor fully understand. Modern dependencies can be a full-blown handicap, and the ways u often learn to do things south of the major snow line is not always applicable to the far north

Homesteady. I know this is nothing to do in your current video. I was watching your homestead video from nine months ago about natural building houses. I wonder if you guys have ever looked into air crete. I've looked at it several times it looks really neat. Bonuses to air create super insulating better than strawbale homes. And bugs and rats and mice hate to chew through it! Because air creed is concrete with millions of little soap bubbles in it. And nobody likes soap their mouth!! just an idea... We went off grid because we wanted out of our mortgage. The thoughts I had were fantasy for sure. This is the hardest thing I have EVER done. Washing my clothes in a stock tank, bathing in a stock tank (ice cold water), cooking outside in the rain, having two children under 5 that get very upset about having to be outside in the rain while I do chores, our fridge was 3 coolers which is not fun because..if you forget ice, there goes your food supply. Having to go out side to fill water bottles for my water needs, having the flu with littles and having to race out to the outhouse to take a million shits in cold weather, puke blankets piled in a tiny house, greasy hair for months at a time.....yeah. I said no thanks. We sacrificed $26,000 this summer for the build of our house to pull in electricity. Just having a light to turn on about made me cry lol! We didn't have solar btw. Only a generator for the well. We now have power to the house, we are building an outbuilding for our washer and dryer and freezers (we were serious about offgrid and did not put a laundry room in the house) we will have a bathtub and composting toilet! I really thought I was going to be Laura in galls. But the truth is, having the conveniences means that I get to spend more time with my family! Not stuck at a house all day doing the same routine. When that's all you have and all you know is hard labor just to wash laundry, it just is what it is. But I grew up throwing a load of laundry in and then off to complete the next task. So of course it isn't easy and why in the he'll I thought I would enjoy washing by hand day after day I beyond me LOL!

It was not remote though it had a composting toilet and the propane water shower.

@hillairefarm, perhaps you are unaware why we bought the camels, and that’s why you left this comment. We had a baby boy who was sick with severe food allergies. Camel milk is one of the best foods for someone suffering from severe food allergies. We were willing to do anything that could help our baby boy, and as camel milk seemed like it could help him, and the pandemic was quickly interrupting supply chains, we bought a dairy camel. You can make jokes at our expense, we’re on RUclips so why not, right? but at least be aware of the whole story when you decide to make those jokes.

I find a good idea to have this test before you choose to live a of grid life or live in a community.... before you make big decisions in your life for yourself or your family you need to have the right experience. I know so many people that think about such kind of things but they fail because they never had similar experience in their life or their lifestyle is exactly the opposite. Often is a new age trend. I also know someone that was part of an off grid community without any source of electricity and in some cases also without water in the house... really primitive and because it is to hard to be 100% self sufficient living without money just trading, avoiding all kind of technology ( from electricity to car) and now there lives a man alone because this lifestyle is way to hard.
