One gives them a stern but fair warning that their song “can be considered offensive” in the Republic, and the other states a plain, matter of fact descriptor mention of a person’s race. I would’ve thought if they really wanted to play up the totalitarian theme, they would’ve stopped the band part way through the first song saying, “that music is deemed subversive in the Republic!”, confiscated their instruments, beaten them and then jailed them. Man, they can’t even do oppression right.
This game is pure art. I mean that entirely unironically. It's the 1st 1 to 1 representation of someone's thought process. The entire woke playbook and usage. Both pages.
I saw a dream sequence in the game where one of the main characters is fighting faceless shadow people who are like mindless shadows screaming stuff like "Don't trust the experts!" "Wake up sheeple!" "The media is all lies!" and basically a bunch of other things that are simplifications of how lefties imagine all conservatives think. Have you seen even one band that looks like that? Their bands now are much more monochromatic and unisex nowadays than the melting pot lie they champion.
It's so bad that I'm 51% leaning towards the idea that the studio is secretly based and just took a bunch of EU money, gave appropriate lip service to The Message, and then made a game deliberately parodying the left. Except I don't think the couple hundred thousand dollars they got from the EU will balance out how much they must've spent on development over EIGHT YEARS... Regardless though, it reeks of depressed devs being forced to work on a project they really don't want to while knowing they'll probably be looking for new jobs after it flops.
you know what i really love about that singing bit, the guy after that "that could be considered offensive in the republic" in other words these "freedom fighters" are offending millions of people and as we know they consider offending someone to be an automatic prison sentence yet the entire game is about offending these people. they want to offend yet run crying to momma government when anyone offends them.
If only that was enough to make it clear their rhetoric isn't wanted... but they're too stubborn, with too little self-awareness for that to ever happen.
The "triggered" mechanic could have been interesting if the game punished you for choosing to be triggered over something stupid, like that guy just mundanely describing a black kid he's looking for as, uh... a black kid.
Um, yeah. The link between socialism and DEI is clearly illustrated with Dustborn. For those who don't know, this game was developed by the predominantly white Norwegian developers at Red Thread Games. It was funded by the Norwegian Film Institute, Vikensenter (a mental health clinic), and the Creative Europe Media Programme of the EU. Dustborn doesn't have to be profitable because it was paid for by Norway and the EU. The fact that not one but THREE separate European state organizations funded this anti-American propaganda says volumes about how EU leaders perceive America.
Any connections with BlackRock as well? When, where, and who started DEI? I'm convinced it's fine by major corps forcing markets to lean one direction. It's all about money right.

You’re absolutely spot on with that 7/10! The IGN reviewer (who, in their review, tells us they’re neither straight nor entirely mentally healthy) encourages gamers to ‘embrace the whole package’ and not get too hung up over one aspect of the game. They also compare it (favourably) to the X-Men comics inasmuch as they believe X-Men was all about ‘inclusivity’ (though it’s interesting how everything that wants to be called ‘inclusive’ always ends up excluding a sizeable chunk of its potential audience).

"This isn't Pacifica. People here don't like politics with their entertainment". So basically this is just another iteration of California VS the world scenario. They can't get a clue, can they?
“People don’t like politics with their entertainment” Speaking as someone who moved in activist circles (though before ‘woke’; early-mid 00s) they tend to misunderstand something about ‘people’. Everyone *knows* that politics is everywhere, and much of the time the reason people switch on the TV, or go to see a film or a sports game, is because they want to forget about the politics of everyday life for a couple of hours. They will have been dealing with work politics, family politics, they may have all manner of responsibilities that emerge during adulthood, and they want a break. The activists think they (the people) are ignorant but they’re not; they’re just tired from a long day/week/life and want a rest so they can tune out. Activists often speak about their protests and other activities as if they’re punishing people for wanting to tune out in this way, and it was this kind of talk that led me to disassociate myself from those circles.
Exactly!!! We just want to get away and ESCAPE all the real world BS for awhile...unplug and relax while we consume our favorite show or game etc (or "touch grass" as they say these days) and these people have no shame in injecting the woke mind virus into everything now. We're all labeled racists and bigots if we don't want to see it or deal with it 24/7 and it's stupid.
In spite of modern gaming, politics *can* in fact work in games, when done right. Metal Gear Solid is the perfect example of this. It uses politics to tell stories that’ll stick with you your whole life. Talking about human ethics, real societal issues, and actual corruption behind closed doors. And MGS has a lot more meaningful messaging than just “straight white people bad,” which is exactly why people still talk about it today as the timeless classic that it is. The issue isn’t games using politics. The issue is games using Twitter Politics.
It's like some of the late-1980s propaganda produced by True Believers in the Soviet Union, shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall -- so ridiculous and hyperbolic it's laughable, but those propagandists actually believed what they were saying.
To think that it's the same studio that made one of my favourite game trilogies, with the same creative mind behind it. How could you fall this low, Ragnar Tornquist...
Agreed, but remember, Tornquist said that Dreamfall:TLJ was inspired by the Bush administration and the Iraq War. The unfortunate fact is that many of our beloved creators from our childhood were Marx ists waiting for the right cultural moment to go full commie on our behinds.
I actually don’t care if someone makes a game on sociopolitical stance. But if you’re going to do that, it should probably be the best version of the game you could possibly put out. If you’re going to make radical statements in your game, then the gameplay and art direction better not suck or be easy to make fun of. Unfortunately for Dustborn, the studio wasn’t interested in doing that.

“People don’t like politics with their entertainment”
Speaking as someone who moved in activist circles (though before ‘woke’; early-mid 00s) they tend to misunderstand something about ‘people’.
The funniest part is this is real, not parody or a joke. Someone actually made this and thought they'd make millions.
It's like some of the late-1980s propaganda produced by True Believers in the Soviet Union, shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall -- so ridiculous and hyperbolic it's laughable, but those propagandists actually believed what they were saying.
