*~ This was the biggest selling album ever at that time; was also huge in many countries (25 million albums sold) ~ So lucky to be a child / teen in the 60s - 70s with so much great music. This song went to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and played on the radio frequently. (Aretha Franklin also had a top 10 hit with a cover of this). "The Boxer" was the first single off this album, went to #7 and is a great song. "Cecilia" (#4) and "El Condor Pasa" (#18) were the other releases, all played for years on FM radio. Take care, J ~*
Great great reaction!!! I heard this song when it first came out on the radio....and cried then and cried now for spiritual reasons....it just speaks of Hope to the human suffering. Love it!!! It is my favorite!!!! And my all-time favorite version!!! Art Garfunkel's voice is angelic on this song...well...he has an "Angelic voice" period!!! lol...Great reaction!!!
Great reaction! Paul Simon wrote all the original Simon & Garfunkel songs (they covered some folk songs too) and sang tight harmonies with Art Garfunkel. This is one of the rare songs where Paul gave Art the lead vocal and didn't add a harmony (for the most part - it's Paul coming with the harmony on the third verse or whatever). Stunning vocal performance - I've heard some amazing Gospel covers of it, but the original has a place in my heart. You were exactly right when you said it was like someone holding both your hands. It's a warm hug, a comfort song.
I enjoyed your reaction. For my generation this song is part of the fabric of our lives. It got a lot of air play for years and was so comforting during the more turbulent times of adolescence. Who doesn’t want someone to have their back in this way? I especially liked the way your eyes lit up with surprise and delight when Paul joined in on the third verse. It’s such a joy to see people hearing and appreciating some of the great music I grew up with. You definitely need to listen to more S&G, as well as Paul’s solo work.
The Paul Simon realization was priceless Jarryl 😅 The catalog is extensive, but a couple of other Paul penned tunes i'd recommend when you come back to S&G, "Sounds of Silence", and "I am a Rock". 💕
Although they started as a folk duo and they have some amazing songs that are just two vocals and one guitar, I'm always drawn to their songs that either have pop elements or big crazy productions. On those lines: The Boxer ("in the quiet of a railway station, running scared..."), Keep The Customer Satisfied ("I hear words I never heard in the Bible") and My Little Town ("nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town") which is kind of a reunion song they did together in the mid 70s. Paul Simon is one of the best lyricists of all time.
Art sang this song beautifully as he does with them all. He may not have written the songs, but his voice surpassed Paul’s with leaps and bounds. I really didn’t care for Paul’s voice alone. 😮
This is NOT a version. It’s the original, performed by the writers/creators. 1969. One take, no digital. A masterpiece!
One of the five or 10 best songs ever written, and this performance, which is the original, can not be beaten
Top 5 easily! It can't get any better than this!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written..❤
This is THE best recording of the song ever!
Everyone needs a friend like this❤

Same as me. Isn’t great to see them ‘discovered’ all over again?
AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL!!! Classic! Love it! Cant go wrong with S&G!❤

This was the first version I heard and loved since 1970. The Boxer from the same album is a great song also.
Art has such a beautiful voice. No one can touch your soul likes he does.

Thanks for appreciating that.

Hey! Glad you enjoyed it & I look forward to checking out the songs you listed.
I loved Keep The Customer Satisfied. B-side to this if I remember correctly. One of the few records where I played the B-side as much as the A.
I've heard a lot of covers of this song but to me this is always the best. Another favorite of mine by them is "I Am A Rock".
Liked and subscribed. Beautiful song and message
Art Garfunkel is one of the top tenors. Watch their Concert from Central Park in 1981, & amaze at Art's performance.
Loved your reaction, didn't have to speak, it was all over your face~ thank you
I know reactors have to pause and comment to avoid being blocked. But I really enjoy watching people groove to a song the most.
I loved your reaction. ❤
Thank you!
Sissel and Russel Watson covered this in a concert - it is on YT give it a listen
My fav song of all-time~❤
You have to watch Art sing this at their Concert from Central Park in 1981. Over 500,000 people were there.
Art Garfunkle .... 🎉🎉🎉 And Paul Simon 🥳👏👏👏👏👏
More Simon and Garfunkel?
America
The Boxer
Scarborough Fair
I Am a Rock
Cissy Houston sings backup on Paul Simons 1972 hit Mother And Child Reunion!

I love Paul’s voice!
@@terri2494me too.
Art Garfunkel's angelic voice just has a gentle, tender way of touching a person's heart. It's very calming & comforting. 💚✌️
This world worse then troubled water where in deap s....
Art singing this song broke the pair up!
Oh wow!
No, Paul gave it to Art to sing & take the lead. This song is so special, even Paul knew it had to have Art's angelic voice.
💚✌️
