Straight talk- the business model for WDW is for visitors to the area. These are people who will take their families once - maybe twice- during their kids childhood. They will save up for years, drop thousands in a week (because they have been planning it for years), buy the photos and the autograph books, the clothes and the souvenirs, then go back to their Disney hotel. They'll do it thinking "well... When will i be back?".
That's the target demo for most decisions at the Florida resort.

You pay all this money to ride, what maybe 5-6 rides maybe, and have to deal with a packed park all day while it's 95 outside. I told my wife we would do Disney 1 more time when our youngest, who is currently 5, is around 10 or 11, and i never want to hear the name disney again.

I get the sentiment, but I am sick of people saying how upset Walt would be. Number 1, he was super greedy in business and loved taking credit (and money) he didn’t necessarily deserve. Number 2, if the ride roster was the same/similar now as it was opening day, it wouldn’t be expensive. People expect WOW from Disney. WOW is expensive. Ya, they should decrease hotel pricing a bit and either lower ticket prices or give more value. We’ll see what happens when epic universe opens, but crowds at Disney are down this year. There are multiple reasons for that, almost none of which have to do with politics btw. But minimizing these issues to “Walt would be rolling in his grave” both makes no sense and discounts 1000’s of things at play. Not trying to be argumentative, but pointing this out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely frustrated at pricing as well.

Over the years, we have travelled from the UK to Disney multiple times. We love the parks, but the prices are insane. At a push, we can afford to still travel, but I find it way too hard to justify the cost. It's even crazier that the Brits get a better deal than US residents, too (14 days for the price of 7, etc.). As our children get older, I find myself looking constantly at deals, hoping for a miracle to take them one last time before they grow up. It's such a shame. Disney is determined to kill its brand and allow Universal to become the leading Florida destination. To think that a family of four just getting into the park can be upwards of $600, and you have no guarantee of getting on all the rides, is just crazy. Sad times we live in.

I was just talking to my brother who is going to the Mets/Dodgers tonight. The conversation included the cost of the tickets, which is relevant to the title here. He's going to spend $800 for two people tonight between tickets, gas, tolls, food and parking. That is insane in my mind. Not only is the cost outrageous, it's the extra time. If you watch the game at home on a big screen TV, you maybe make some snacks first and then sit down and watch. He's going to be driving about three hours each way due to traffic. You're tacking on six extra hours where you're not watching the game.
I went to Pittsburgh about 12 years back for a four-game series, three nights in a hotel. The total cost for two people was $780. That included gas, tolls, hotel, parking, tickets, food. He's going to pay more for one game and no hotel.

You brought up a good point that the choices about Disney parks is a personal one.
Time spent vs. money spent vs what you get out of it . ... in so many words.

Let’s be clear, this new pass is NOT front of the line, it’s Lightning Lane with no reservation. So if the LL has a queue you don’t skip it, you join the back of it. Also it DOES NOT include all rides. It doesn’t include the ones you already had to pay for. You still need to pay for those. Also, you can ONLY buy it if you are staying at one of Disney’s Deluxe resort hotels. So typical Disney list of rules. Look, the only way Disney will listen is if people stop going, and that’s not happening.

I don’t think Adam read that about the deluxe hotels. He won’t be using this unless he pays even more for a hotel room which would be crazy when he already lives there. Sorry Adam!

I gave up on Disney years ago. The business reality is that there are enough wealthy families, with a lot of money to spend, to keep the parks filled at all times. Why cater to the working class or even the middle class?
When Disney files for bankruptcy, I'll celebrate. I won't care about it at all anymore until then.

I'm wondering what Walt Disney would say about how expensive it is going to one of his parks today. I know prices of things go up, for me going there today is out of my price range. The last time I was there in 1980, it was $17.00 not included ticket books.

I’m a grandma and take 8-10 people when we go. There are definitely cheap ways to go! One park per day is fine!! We don’t buy Lightning Lane - and have no trouble getting on rides. Bring breakfast food to your hotel, then bring a small cooler with sodas and sandwiches to the park and the food price goes down. It’s definitely doable!

How much does the Lightning Lane Premier Pass cost?
Pricing varies by park and date:
    Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129 - $199 + tax per person
    EPCOT: $169 - $249 + tax per person
    Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269 - $349 + tax per person
    Magic Kingdom: $329 - $449 + tax per person
There is no way I am going to pay 2x the ticket price
at MK to get on a 2-minute ride.

Sad to say, but my 6 y/o niece does not to return to Disneyland anymore. She said it is just not fun anymore and could only get on a few rides. She chose Universal her last 2 birthdays and we live in Socal and I was paying for everything, anything she wanted. So will Disney just be for affluent adults and few families a couple of times. Growing up we went at least six times a year and rode rides all day. We were not locked in to our phones, could afford to eat and drink all day and buy a hoodie and or plushie. Granted we didn't stay at the DLH and we ate a the local McDonald's first, but it was affordable. I won't even go with free tickets anymore and I just declined some last week. I think the $129 is going to be a rare day. I😢 honestly think FP and LL just ruined everything. I will just go to Knots and pay once no cell required to have fun.😢

Have nearly 400 DVC points spend $40,000 a year on vacations roughly. A lot of that money went to Disney. Now we are not coming back. Haven’t been this year (since we were ripped off on Genie last New Year but I did spot Adam in Epcot NYE), went to Aulani in August. We have got 5 vacations booked coming up including 2 cruises- Royal around the Med and Celebrity Far East. Next time we will use DVC points is March 26 at Vero. Disney have lost tens of thousands of our vacation spend due to greed.

Disney has been expensive even in the 60s where you bought the ticket books, and some rides you didn’t get but one ticket to use, so you had to go and buy more tickets to ride those sought after E ticket rides. As a middle class family, we couldn’t afford to go on the E rides.
Now, it’s going back to that same kind of thing, by charging you for special privileges, on top of the entry fee! It was bad enough in the 90s when I last went. And the worst part is that Disney, instead of fixing the problem in a more suitable way, create queues that take up more space and takes away from the appeal of the park!
What is the solution? How about building a third Disneyland in the Midwest….say like Missouri. Buy enough land to make it a sizable park, room for expansion, and then build it so that it is not full of stanchions to guide you to a ride or attraction. And as they design this third park, make ABSOLUTELY sure that they have Walt Disney’s frame of mind as well as foundation on what he would have done if he had the space to do it with.
Disney will price itself out of business if they can’t control the crowds better, stop charging so much to get in the parks, fix ALL rides that are down or broken, and start thinking of the guests first, before the company’s pocketbook. If they are not making a profit now, they never will.
That’s my thoughts on Disney’s price hike. It’s too much, and they still won’t fix what is broken.
