  • In the video, Black Folks Camp Too visits Historic Stagville and Horton Grove Preserve, where we learn about the history of the enslaved population in North Carolina. Insights are shared as we are guided through the plantation and learn about the lives of enslaved people and the work they performed on the plantations, such as farming and engineering.. We also learn about the importance of the preservation and conservation of these sites to ensure that the history of the enslaved population is not forgotten. We also get to explore the nature trails of the plantation and learn about the different ecosystems and habitats that were present during the time of enslavement. Throughout the video, we encourage viewers to learn about and connect with the history of the enslaved population, highlighting the importance of understanding and preserving this important part of American history.
Historic Stagville is a state historic site that includes the remnants of one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. The Bennehan-Cameron family owned approximately 30,000 acres of land and claimed ownership over about 900 people who were enslaved on this property. Stagville protects a fraction of the land from that plantation, including original slave quarters (1851), a massive barn (1860), and a Bennehan family house (1787-1799). Stagville is dedicated to teaching about the lives and work of enslaved people on the plantation.

Very powerful and moving video that delves into the reasons why some black folk founded segregated communities as safe harbors and refuges post-emancipation/reconstruction. I love how Earl mentions we all pay taxes for public land, suggesting that it's a right for everyone to have access to and feel safe in nature. Raleigh's reflections really zeroed in on the healing work that still needs to be done. Thank you both for sharing your vision of community and helping us heal in unity one campfire at a time! 🔥

This is really important and sad to hear about what had happened to all of the slaves But I know that it's important to keep us informed so that We won't have to repeat those tactics of enslavement. Thanks for this video 😀📸😍😊
