Hi, Ben. I used to cut the fret slots before glue the fretboard on the neck. Doing this, you can pin some small nails just on 2 fret slots (3 and 16, for exemple), preventing the board to move when you apply pressure glueing it. After glued, all you need to do is remove the nails. When the frets are installed, they will cover the holes (the holes need to be smaller than the fret wire, of course). Ive never even put any thiught to how the truss rod adjustment hole gets there. Thats absolut mastery of a drill right there. I cant even drill a pilot hole into a piece of cardboard straight let alone have the balls to do what you just did.

The use of masking tape to prevent the trussrod becoming fouled is espoused by the great Melvyn Hiscock in his Iconic book : "Make Your own Electric Guitar". Interestingly enough, I believe he also supported pinning the fretboard with small brads to prevent slippage while under the cauls and clamps.
That was close when you drilled the 1st hole for the trust rod access, you can actually see the chip bulge, consider breaking, and then decide against it. fiouf!
How about using some locating pins when gluing fretboard to prevent sliding. Not drilling through fretboard, just install in neck and have them grab under side of fretboard.
Fella, what I'd do on that is what you do with banister rails, if you clamped a strip up each side of the neck to make a channel for the fretboard to sit in then it wouldn't slide because it would be jigged in place. You could then put a small g cramp at the nut and loosely clamp your fretboard down. Then use a mallet to tap it home from the body end if it slipped.
Nice job on the truss rod plug. I have to admit I was gritting my teeth a little while you were freehanding it with the drill. I guess there's no substitute for skillz and sharp bits. Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
That fretboard will look amazing on the finished instrument. I always like to try to guess what it's all going to look like once the finish is applied.
Good job on the wood insert, very nice! But man oh man I'm way more paranoid and particular than you Ben on straightness! I would build so many more guitars if i didn't fuss over the straightness of the neck and the edges of the fretboard as much.

I'm sure by now they've realised that they're going to have plenty of people downing on their work, no matter what they do, so they just go ahead and do it for their own enjoyment and share it.

What, if anything, do you use to treat a ziricote fingerboard? Some oils and finishes will pick up the dark resins in ziricote and totally destroy the patterns that make ziricote so beautiful. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos. Your work is inspiring.

Radiused caul on a flat piece of wood , you have no pressure on the center of the board I'm sure it will be fine but I don't understand the thought processes behind that one
Yes, Crimson now are of the opinion that long videos are bad, and that apparently nobody wants to sit through half an hour or longer of Ben planing wood, even though people pay for that with the 90 hour build on patreon. Guess you gotta pay for that privilege now, heh. Jokes and digs aside, it works for me because I get to watch while i'm eating my breakfast, since the videos are up when I wake up
I’m s carpenter and I often use older style hand tools aswell. Maybe I read too much into it. But I feel like it’s more personal. Also the noise and dust. Hahaha but I guess it makes me feel like more of a craftsman. Go figure

I would suggest using an endmill rather than a drill, but 7mm endmills are an exceedingly odd size. 6mm and 8mm yes, but 7mm is rare.

Wow that hand held work on the access hole for the truss rod was making me cringe! Always clamp down the nut area when drilling!( save some heartache)
