I has a 1971 Black 240Z and drove for 5 years. LOVED IT ! -- I ended up selling it to a Z Mechanic who paid me a lot for it. He put a small block chevy 8 cyl engine it, and turned it into a rocket. I have missed it ever since.
Great video! Thanks for posting! Dad raced an early '70 240Z in the Pacific Northwest back in the mid-'70s. We also had a 260Z 2+2, and much later on I had a '72. The gear ratios in Morton's car don't sound at all right for a factory transmission. How far different are they from factory stock?
So, how did Mr. Morton's times compare to 1970? Don't try to convince me he wasn't attempting to run close to or beat his previous attempts from 48 years ago.
Just a practice session. Unfortunately, shortly after the video ends a rod came out the side of the block and dumped oil in the brake zone before 10a. I say unfortunately not for him, someone literally flew in a shortblock and had him back on track the next morning, but the poor schmuck behind him in an historically significant 510 hit the oil and pinballed down the armco landing next to him in the sand trap.
"Hi I'm John Morton, and this is the 240z we won so many races with...."
"It's also a luxurious gt car, with all the trimmings."

Great...although the man was saving the engine - definitely well under the rev limit.
And yet it sent a rod out the side moments later.
