    When the pressure cooker says “release naturally” it means you leave it after the timer is done! It will naturally de-pressurize and once it is safe, you will be able to open it. The food will continue to cook for a few min. It’s a safety feature that you can’t open it if it has pressure built up. If it says “quick release” that is when you nudge the little valve and make the steam escape quickly. If a recipe says “cook for 10 mins” it will likely take longer than 10 mins bc it doesn’t account for the time it takes to bring the machine to pressure (which is when the 10 mins will start) or the time for it to de-pressure.

    Tips on baby proofing: outlet plugs unless your already have the locking outlets, which mine did so I didn’t do that (most newer built houses do), I didn’t bolt anything to walls, definitely get cabinet locks for kitchen, bathroom etc, baby gates for stairs (as soon as my little started crawling not even a week later she mastered stairs. Get down at her level and see what she see. Shelf behind couch is something she could get into so make sure there isn’t anything she can break or hurt herself with. As for feeding luma. We have a golden doodle and she eats 2 bigger meals a day (1 cup breakfast and supper) then she has 1 small (lunch time 1/2 cup) she is 30lbs. Vet recommended portion. Then we put her bowl up so our little couldn’t eat it.

    Major anxiety when they were trying to open the pressure cooker. You have to be very careful and allow pressure to be released by the big valve ( faster than doing it naturally) using a wash cloth or big spoon to not get burnt OR you could allpw the pressure to be "naturally released" which mean leaving the big valve on sealed and allowing the pressure to be released through the bobber valve. It takes way longer so whatever is inside will still be cooking since pressure is not being released so fast once the bobber valve goes all the way down you can try to open it but never force it. It should be easy to open if not it means there's still too much pressure inside. Also it takes a while for the countdown because it has to build pressure first and the recipe might call for 5 minites but it might take longer since they don't include waiting for heating up and letting cool down time. I rambled for too long. I hope it is helpful.

    When baby proofing, don’t forget sharp corners. Like on the coffee table, and anything else Cove might be able to pull herself up on. The bottom of the staircase railing too! They have plastic and foam, maybe silicone, covers you can put on the edge of things to round them out.

    There is a massive learning curve with pressure cookers. Don’t give up!! Watch videos and keep trying you will get it and they do come in handy. Also for baby proofing a gate for the stairs. Before you know it she will be crawling and trying to go up the stairs so start looking now for one that is aesthetically pleasing. And hooray for Cove crawling...🎉

  • @misSimplicityXx
    @misSimplicityXx 4 года назад +146

    Letting a pressure cooker release “naturally” means that you don’t do the “quick release” like you did in the video. You would let is go until the button that goes up (to show your pressure cooker is pressurized) goes back down on it’s own for you to be able to open the lid without doing the quick release. Like that the food is still cooking until the pressure is released. Your food may have cooked all the way had you done it that way with the 1 minute :)
    Pressure cookers are intimidating at first for sure!! I was when I started cooking with my instant pot but now I used it all the time it’s crazy fast.

  • @tashap1331
    @tashap1331 4 года назад +27

    Natural release means you let it set for 10-15 minutes after the cooking time is done. This way the pressure releases slowly and not all at once like when Parker turned the valve and all the steam came out. The steam is the pressure. When you let it naturally release, your food still cooks, which is why one minute seems like such a short time. You’d want to manually release (what Parker did) for things like boiled eggs that you don’t want to keep cooking after the cooking time is done.

  • @glitters2896

    On instant pots when it says release Naturally you don't let the steam out you wait till the little sliver pin next to the release nozzle drops down then you will be able to open it :) that way the food gets to cook longer :)

    Honestly the easiest way was getting a sippy with a straw in it because you don't have to worry about it spilling and she can hold it herself to get used to it. Only thing I worried for my son he started crawling at 4.5 months and pulling up at 5 so the most thing that worried me was things with sharp edges like the tv stand and coffee table because once she starts pulling up it'll be a whole different ball game😅

    Don’t know if you’ll see this or if it’s already been suggested when preparing any recipes especially new ones that you’ve never made before try and measure out your ingredients and prepare veggies and cut up items first before starting to cook. Chefs learn that first thing in culinary school, it’s called “mise en place” it’s French for everything’s in its place. Hope this helps! Btw Cove is growing up so fast and is the most precious thing everrrrrr ❤️

    I’ve heard good things about magnetic cabinet locks from amazon for baby proofing cabinets! They make it so you can’t visually see the lock from the outside!

  • @brynnleddy3967
    @brynnleddy3967 4 года назад +3

    For baby proofing I suggest getting gates at the stairways and investing in higher ones save your Wallis in my opinion. Like the ones you bolt and can open like a door rather than the one that uses pressure against each side of the wall. use cabinet locks so she can’t get into anything that can hurt her. I didn’t really bolt everything only tall bookcases (like the one in ur dinning room) also your stair railing when she starts climbing things she might climb it because your design goes side to side instead of up and down. so beware of that :)

    This is so adorable! ✨ For *baby proving* the house, make sure you look out for the obvious (corners/edges on cabinets, doors and shelves, stairs) but also please do not forget to mount the furniture on the wall so that it does not tip over when Cove climbs on it. 🧡 I wish you so much fun with her in the future!

  • @Kriss.paige13

    For baby proofing- definitely get the electric socket plugs! Also the little hooks for the cabinets that are low enough for her to get into, a baby gate for the stairs, and close any doors where there’s something she could get into. We also got a big “baby play pen/fence” thing that made a big circle and was plenty enough space to give our daughter room to play while we cooked dinner or something! They make giant plastic ones that you can take outside too once it gets warmer. Hope this helps, I don’t know the technical names for any of these things lol

    For the pressure cooker, let it sit for about 10 minutes after the timer goes off, that should be enough time for it to release naturally and finish cooking the food! And then once you turn the valve, there shouldn’t be any steam coming out and that’s how you know it released naturally all the way

    We feed our dogs after we finish dinner. They are 11 now. One dog lies down on the floor by mum and goes to sleep, the other lies in her basket. As soon as they hear the knives and forks get set down on the plates they go to the kitchen and wait for their food. That way we can give them any left overs with their dinner. Dogs are smart, they know the eat after us and they wait patiently (takes some training). Sorry, no baby tips, i don't have kids (despite many people telling me i should!)

    We got our first son a playpen to keep him contained... but that didn’t last long 😂 We mostly did just the outlet covers and baby gates for baby proofing and make sure everything at her level is put up if you don’t want her to have it 😄 You might also want to get something to lock the kitchen cabinets and drawers at her level, especially if you have cleaning supplies (even then, maybe put cleaning supplies up higher just in case). We’ll be doing the same thing for our second son, but he’s only 1 month old at the moment, so we have a little time 😊

    When you switched the valve on the pressure cooker, you did a quick release. Natural release is letting it sit for a set amount of time (most recipes say 10 mins natural release) which allows the food to cook longer (also the reason your potatoes & quinoa weren't cooked all the way) and then once 10 mins is up you can switch the valve to release the rest of the pressure and open.

    Baby proofing: anchor all furniture, outlet covers, baby gate for stairs, be mindful of sharp corners, cabinet locks or move unsafe products to higher shelves, clean floors regularly and keep an eye out for small items before letting her crawl around, move anything you don’t want her getting into to higher spots (like all your cute decor).
