I was in the CBD during the 2011 World Cup Final. They closed the main street Queen Street and had huge screens all over the CBD and Fan Zones with screens all over the country. When the final whistle sounded NZ exploded. There were victory parades both in Wellington and Auckland with a combined attendance of about 200,000 people.

Ah that is SO COOL to hear, thank you for sharing. I feel like if there's one thing that even comes close to bringing the North & South Island together, it's the All Blacks.

My wife and I spent a night at eden park for my 40th birthday and it was pretty cool. Walking around the place at night without anyone there was even better.. great tour, great stadium.. it’s a must do. Love watching your videos mate. Glad you call NZ home as it’s the best country in the world. Welcome to NZ mate.

really cool I haven't been there yet, makes me want to go!... also just FYI to take food into events they just don't want free advertising for companies on TV so the trick is to turn your food packets inside out or buy meals and put them in bags or containers without wrapping.

Really like this video! Quite informative. I could see a lot of tourists using it as a helpful guide if they were wanting to attend a game there. The rooftop thing looks pretty cool and the sleeping things make no sense. Only weirdos who drink slurpees on a daily basis would consider doing that, I bet. Also really liked all of your own footage you used as well as the choices for all the examples. Really enjoyed the use of "nuts" throughout.

League blows. Big time. It’s Rugby dumbed down for the stupidest people. Low skill, boring, limited tactics, only big in two, states of Australia. And the Warriors both suck anyway and never pull decent crowds (because they suck).

I was there for the 2015 Cricket World Cup Semi-Final NZ (Black Caps) v South Africa (Proteas). The BEST sporting event I have ever been too: the game went ALL DAY, way into the night due to a rain delay, and the result only became clear on the second to last ball of the game. It could have gone either way, but NZ won. The crowd screamed for the Black Caps all day. Nothing I have ever been to comes close. And I have been to a few games in a few sports in a few countries.

No they couldn’t handle the low monetary returns from a flawed and go-nowhere competition. And which is now dying without them.
And no they do not “play in the English cup”. They have 4 teams (carried from the super rugby) in a competition with 4 teams from Ireland, 4 teams from Wales, 2 teams from Scotland, and 2 teams from Italy. But *ZERO* teams from England.
You’ve only made yourself look stupid.

@Andy-M986 - there is always one you can talk you definitely can’t stand losing to the point that you abuse referees into retirement.( I have proof by the way in Wayne Barnes book . South African franchises decided to go up north because logistically it’s better and since then super rugby is absolutely boring . And several commentators said the biggest mistake was letting the South African teams go . Israel dagg been one I can name many . You are the worst losers . Or is it just because it’s South Africa . It’s not your players but the fans I watched this because I didn’t know this until now but always somebody has to say something nasty about South Africans. Well when the springboks play here next i will make sure I send my luck with them and we do beat you we will definitely beat you in South Africa that’s for sure and u may add South African franchises have won in the super rugby before , the bulls , sharks , the best thing to happen was South African franchises moving up north . They should play in the six nations to i have read that the scrapping the championship and having tests each year or something like that .

Eden Park is getting a facelift. Most of the stands will be getting demolished and replaced with new ones and a retractable roof. Its capacity will go from 50,000 to 60,000.

      Whut?!
This the first I’ve ever heard of this. And I can’t find any news articles on this. I’ve always heard that they were looking long term to either build a brand new stadium (such as in the waterfront) or upgrade either Mt Smart or Western Springs. Because Eden Park is in a stupid location for a big stadium.

No, it’s Not NZ’s national stadium! Despite it’s private owners advertising it as such and who are running a campaign to get more public funding to keep the old dog going. We have yet to actually build one, hopefully down the waterfront. The plans for it were simply stunning, something even the latest clips simply can’t match. Bring on the new waterfront stadium.

    • @danieleyre8913

They’ve been talking about a new stadium on the Auckland waterfront for 30 years. Every once in a while the media and some lobby group comes out with some fancy new architectural render.
But it never goes any further. Funding never comes close to eventuating. Because there’s no business case for one yet. And the country isn’t awash with money to blow on crap like that. It, or another option, is in the possible long term projects basket though, because Eden park sucks and is in a stupid location for a big football stadium (it’s really a cricket ground, which is what is was originally).
You are correct about Eden Park not being any “national stadium” though. New Zealand just does not have one. It does not need one because the country doesn’t host very many big international sporting events. And the country lacks the population to have good enough infrastructure to have something like that convenient for most of the country to get to. Instead New Zealand is like most nations; each centre of population has its own stadium.
