Absolutely. You should totally watch it. Merlin is a wonderful character and there are more funny moments than I can count in that show. All the characters are so well written and well acted. Definitely worth a watch
I love how Merlins shoes are showing, his very characteristic shoes, but Arthur just ignores it like all the spells he "didn't hear" Merlin cast. He's so oblivious, he even points out stuff that doesn't add up but just decides to let it go, as always
They probably did crack up a lot doing these scenes. The blooper reel for these scenes alone would probably be an hour long. What I am wondering is how much of the Old Merlin material was actually improvised vs scripted. Because it all feels wonderfully like ad lib.
I mean, all the sorcerers he meets (from my remembrance) also seem to be trying to teach him some lesson about being kinder and/or more noble, so it wouldn't be out of sorts to mention.

I think what makes the “I will KILL YOUR KING” line funnier is that we as an audience know that Merlin never could bring himself to kill Arthur by his own volition. Also Merlin’s voice slips back to his normal when he shouts “why have you got ALE IN YOUR EARS” which makes it funnier for me

As someone who has NEVER seen the show and all of these things are entirely out of context, this is absolutely a trip. I’ve never related so much to a character.
I always loved how this show encapsulates all the different Merlin lore/stories. You have sassy old man Merlin from the stories where he ages backwards. You have the old man and Merlin never meeting from the time traveling stories. You even have Merlin pretending to be the "lady of the lake" from the stories before she was a real character and not just some fey he asked to do a favor for him.
That “goodbye” as Emrys just flings the soldier away caught me so off guard I dIED💀💀😭 poor boi never stood a chance,, also that moment where Merlin disguised as the sorceress trying to run back to change being sped up so fast made me wheeze HAHAHSHSH amazing editing, thank you for feeding the fans🤌🏻

s01e04 is soooo important. the progression of Arthur's character and his appreciation for Merlin that early is amazing. he defies his father for the first time in his life - just for Merlin
I just finished the series yesterday and completely devastated by the ending 😭 I wish there was another alternative ending where Arthur knew about merlin power for a long time or at least for handful episodes. Anyway loved the series so much. Definitely will watch again someday

I would have loved to have seen Arthur find out about Merlin sooner. I think they could have had so much fun with that and so many good story lines could have come out of that. I love the fact they started off not like each other but then over time they grew to respect one another and became best friends.

I would have loved to have seen Arthur find out about Merlin sooner. I think they could have had so much fun with that and so many good story lines could have come out of that. I love the fact they started off not like each other but then over time they grew to respect one another and became best friends.
