So we now have a trim button like on a normal mixing board. You should always try to hit unity gain but like you said sometimes you need to boost or lower mics. That puts this mixer that much closer to a real mixing console. Having linked/Sub Groups is amazing as well! Good stuff Jason!
Nice update! But do you know, there is one glaring "opening" in the Resolve 19.x tutorial space for audio and that is a good tutorial on Ambisonics, with a concrete example on how to take surround sound (eg from good ol' Zoom H2n and combine that with 360 video from something like the Insta X3 or X4. Noone has yet addressed that use case.
@@JasonYadlovski Michael G. Wagner and AudioBrewers channels do have some in depth videos about Ambisonics in Davinci Resolve. Wrote that comment already yesterday - but it just disappeared.
Thanks! Hopefully, they make Fairlight more powerful in terms of handling 96,000 Hz. In my experience, working with a 96,000 Hz timeline breaks many things, especially Dialogue Isolation and bouncing effects on a clip
As always , excellent Jason. Your videos have always been my go to. If I may, a question please. A problem just hit me at the wrong time...returning to a completed video I find all but the first clips text plus all adjustment clips in the project are now inactive....this is in my recent update to Studio 19.1.2. Any thoughts? Thanks
I have tried the ducker a few times and always been dissapointed and I think the reson is that sometimes with certain music a shortage breaks you do not want the music to come right back up so I stick to manuall doing the mix. I would love the feature then that if the gap was less than a certain length you could raise the music to a slightly lower level. Maybe one day this could happen or even better AI could be trained to listen to the music and voice and adjust it more like a munally dubb and to what you opersonally prefer.
Top Infos, Jason! Thank you! But: hopefully revised BM for version 20, finally this bus system management in Fairlight. It's somehow opaque and complicated. IMHO!🙂
Thanks for this. Curious, do you know what BMD meant when they said they added this feature in 19.1? "Source audio channels option when editing multicam angles"?? Is this just changing the audio channels in the inspector or is there a new menu item added somewhere.
Thanks Jason for your updates, there is an audio ducker problem for me: I record videos where there is background noise (cycling). The Audio Ducker not only recognises my speech, but also the background noise. Is there somewhere I can set a level at which the Audio Ducker starts? Thanks and best regards, Klaus
Thank you for update Jason! Just a question out of topic maybe. Do you always shoot video with the constant exposure, ex. for 25 fps 1/50, 50 fps 1/100, and so on ... or it is not always necessary to follow this rule? Thanks
Yes I always follow that rule. But if you were to change the shutter speed a little occasionally, it could still be ok, but I wouldn’t make a habit of changing the shutter speed. Try to keep it double the frames per second, unless you wanted to do slow motion then you can do a higher multiple of the frames per second.
Fairlight is starting to become a "real" DAW more and more. I like that! So indeed thank you Blackmagic! EDIT: My favourite is accessing Dynamics, EQ, and FX in the Edit page! Super handy!
@@JasonYadlovski I would like to see VCA/DCA options. And maybe the option for a different layout. Tracks on top and the mixer at the bottom. Although that might run in to some issues like; where does the video player go? And the LUTS metering? And I also understand that video is the main focus. And "real" maybe shouldn't be in quotes because it is already a pretty decent DAW.
The biggest thing is 19.1 is that you can right click any diall in fairlight and it will bring you straight to automation layer for that paramer, game changeing for automation 😅

I don't follow. I have done now audio work, mixing, and mastering surround for 2 feature films in Fairlight. While for the first feature it took me a while to get into Fairlight, later - after 3 years of working in Fairlight it clicked and I am pretty fast, have built out my workflow. The latest feature film had been very audio driven, I had 48 tracks or so, many busses, groups and VST plugins. Australian based audio technician Benni Knop has a nice YT channel and a great 5.1 Fairlight template for Audio Post Production.
Great update video, Jason. I don't think any makes Fairlight more understandable and accessible than you. Keep rocking, brother!

Yo I think Bruce buffer copyrighted “it’s time”
😲 I don't know about that. 😁 At least I'm not selling it or anything.
Oh sweet, the nested timelines right now don't work at all. It completely ruins the audio quality. That could be huge if it works now.
